So do I, the Richmond game was high intensity + Abbott played well.

If Richmond is #1 + Hawthorn is #3 (since Sydney beat Collingwood **** :rolleyes:) then why drop Abbott?

(Oh **** Hawthorn is #3 atm :sick::sick::sick:) OMG I really hope that lights a fire in our players' bellies! :mad::mad::mad:

Could Abbott play as Hawkins' decoy tall? TBH, I preferred Abbott's game to dear, darling Henderson's effort :(

There are many considerations this week!

**** I hate Poos+Wees :poutingcat::poutingcat::poutingcat:

Do you burn Hawthorn effigies in the fire?

I have ALWAYS hated the hawks even in the 70’s. They have always had the equal worst supporter base along with the Tigers.

We've had some bad losses with Parsons outside of the team. Chuffed that he's back, as now a lot of you will have a scapegoat to target and avoid the real issues if we fail. If we win, silence. The perfect scenario.

Even if we win Parsons will still play bad and be a scapegoat! He’s such a bad footballer that he will somehow find a way to sour a win against the arch nemesis. Whether it be drop a chest mark, stay on the ground for 2 minutes after a contest so he doesn’t have to tackle or just be purely terrified of the ball he will find a way to disappoint!

Legit don’t understand what Parsons and O’Connor provide over Cunico and Thurlow. It’s marginal either way I spose but surely it’s time to start settling things down.

They are both ridiculous changes. Both deserved another run.

I'm glad O'Connor gets another chance. He's got something a bit special about him I reckon. Hopefully he takes his chance and doesn't look back.

I also get why Parsons was brought back. In good VFL form and he's got more class than any of the other bottom 6 options. Hopefully he rediscovers his best because he's more likely to produce a match winning moment than our other fringe guys.

He's also more likely to cost us the game.

So despite the on field flaws he should be sacked if we miss the 8. Doesn't make sense.
So goodbye Richo, Bolton, Worsefold, Fagan, etc, etc.
I know you think geelong should win the flag every year by the sounds of it but it doesn't work like that. Sometimes other club are better.

You sound like a spoilt brat who hasn't been a geelong fan for long.
Decades in the hoops and absolutely he should be sacked in they miss the 8. Major on field flaws are the coach's responsibility, sounds like you are a just a brat who has been a Geelong fan for five minutes... Geelong have under performed dramatically this year....heads must roll and no acceptance of failure tolerated. Making the 8 and winning a final is the only thing that should save Chris Scott and about four or five players!

For those who are at all interested in it, or for a non-emotional purely numbers-based perspective, before the teams were named Squiggle had us winning by a point (77-78). With the ins/outs now announced, Squiggle has us winning by 7 points (75-82).

So at least on paper/in numbers, our ins and outs are better than theirs (even with Parsons in, so the other changes must have pumped it up a fair bit!). I agree.

A purely theoretical perspective, but an interesting amendment to the projected score/margin after the teams were announced. And very contrary to some of the feelings in here.

Narkle = Breakeven
O'Connor = Breakeven
Stanley = Breakeven
Stewart = +28 to the cats
Parsons = -22 to the cats

5 changes hey? We are shitting ourselves. Coaches aren’t exactly oozing confidence.
Hawks are going into this game quite confident, I’m far from confident.

Not sure if it's the players or the coaching/game plan. They are a very inexperienced group (Jones, Fog, Narkle) and Cockatoo and McCarthy can never get on the park. But we just don't get front and centre. You don't need to be small or fast to be able to do that either. Chapman and SJ were waiting at the critical spot at the fall of the ball for years. Since then the only one with that ability has been Caddy and we got rid of him. Is why I'd like Ablett Jnr forward pocket.

Sluggish ball movement and consistently appalling entry kicks (even from what we would consider our best users) haven't helped here either. When we have moved it quickly and not kicked it to the absolute worst fricken side of the pack or a contest there has been opportunity for goals off the pack.

Negligible difference. 0.3 vs 0.9 goal average and thats because Cunico is more midfielder than small forward. What the statistics don't show is Parsons inability to provide pressure. I'd also take Murdoch over Parsons even though his goal average is slightly less. To be honest our small forward stocks are crap and have been for over 5 years. The club has still failed to sort it out. Miers and Fogarty are supposed to be our latest fixes but thats not looking great yet.

Scott said earlier in the season that if selection options are close/hard to separate, then the MC will look to get games into the inexperienced players with potential. This is obviously the case with their persistence with Parsons and giving games to O’Connor.
Parsons - they see the footy smarts/vision, some disposal skills and a goal or two a game.
O’Connor - they see reasonable foot skills and speed, some line breaking potential

Problem is that both are still under strength, probably another preseason from full fitness and neither are not really top notch in any facet. This makes both a real liability in big games - should have gone with fitter, stronger players like Cunico for this match. Lose this week and I’m fine for building experience in the last two games.

Well said - I've been complaining about it for years and we still aren't doing the basics right. Richmond is a perfect example of a team who has been drilled and reminded the importance of front and square. Our players still can't figure it out or do it on a consistent basis.

Legit don’t understand what Parsons and O’Connor provide over Cunico and Thurlow. It’s marginal either way I spose but surely it’s time to start settling things down.

I think they're hoping for:

More goal threat from Parsons as opposed to Cunico; and

A lock-down defensive role from MOC over Thurlow's admittedly broader skill-set.

Pretty much agree that it's marginal either way, though. And totally agree that it's past time to seek to settle the side down. Year after year the side is unsettled in the run to the finals. Granted some of that is due to injury. But the MC appears to do a fair job of unsettling any semblance of balance and continuity as well.

Still, apart from the loss of Jed (who has played his role effectively, despite plenty of criticism here), the team is definitely stronger this week with the addition of Stanley, Stewart and Narkle. And, despite Abbott's solid effort last weekend, I'm relieved that they're not going the 'two ruck' path. Rhys has been owning the job and doing it very well. Just hope the week off has freshened him up rather than stalled his momentum.

Overall, the team is clearly better this week than last time out. So, with the hope of a repeat of the same intensity the players brought last Friday night, I think we're still a good chance in this game.

Does James have a brother?? Because that could explain it.

Strange selections in parsons and O’Connor. If they’re hell bent on playing them surely the following two games would be a better option

On further reflection you said this earlier in the season.

Ladder prediction:
After Round six i see it panning out similar to this. It's all a waste of time as the Tigers have it in the bag in what must surely be the most disappointing season in years.
Richmond

Adelaide
GWS
Sydney
West Coast
Port
Collingwood
Hawthorn

Fremantle
Melbourne
Western Bulldogs
North Melbourne
Essendon
Geelong
Gold Coast
St.Kilda
Brisbane
Carlton

Carlton are a much better team than Geelong.

Worst 4 lists:
Gold Coast
Carlton
St.Kilda
Geelong

So which is it Jack? Are we a rubbish list or are we awesome and under-performing?

I don't know what else some supporters on here expect....were the two extra changes of parsons and oconnor uncalled for !? I was happy w 3 changes but really don't know who else they could of brought in ?! Or just cooled the jets another week w cunico and thurlow
