So what do we make of the result & where are they heading?
Is this the right formguide for Flemington or was the winner at home?

Viewed: Ive obviously underated him, believed that last years MC win had some fluke about it thanks to the pacemaking tactics of the internationals.
Having said that,Ive never seen any major staying race where a the winner can come from third last & not have to go round 1 horse.
Gets another kilo & that probably stops him going back to back........

Roman Emperor:Looked to have his chance but I guess missing the penalty keeps him in the frame if he gets a suitable track

Vigor:Brave & honest, looked the winner 250 out but the effort told.
Not sure he can go again?

Daffodil:Another who loomed up to win & just fell short although came through with a nasty cut on the knee

Fiumicino:Ran the race of his life on unsuitable ground....which makes me slightly concerned about the strength of the race.
Speed Gifted thrashed him on his perfect ground in the Metrop yet he was still good enough to weigh in here?

Master O'Reilly:Pulled some late ground but still well held

Kirklees:Showed none of the tactical speed which was expected to get him on pace, battled on ok after looking well beaten

The rest were awful including Cest La Guerre who didnt put in at all.

All I'll say is that nothing that was behind Viewed can beat it over 2 miles, even if Viewed gets a kilo.

I liked the runs of Roman Emporer and Master O'Reilly but can't see them doing better than sneaking a place.

The form of Efficient and Speed Gifted was enhanced in the CC.

Alcopop's form was a bit harder to line up but he is flying (although Shocking should have won the Coongy and Alcopop has dealt with him easily, but it was a far weaker race).

Can't see anything in caulfield cup behind viewed that will turn tables in melbourne cup. One of Efficient, Speed Gifted, Alcopop along with viewed look likely winner.

Master O'Rielly will run well as usual but fall short and Roman Emperor looks place chance.

Cest la guerre run was shocking, I'm writing him off.

I agree with most of the thoughts here. Don't think anything outside the first 4 in the CC could go on to win at Flemington.

For me the MC is a two horse race - Viewed v Efficient.

I am not a Master O'Reilly fan but reckon his was nearly the biggest run of the race. Was sitting in the last 4 or 5 coming into the last turn and had to go around every runner from there to finish a strong 5th.

I'm a massive Master O fan and would have put a bit on him if he came from a decent gate in the CC. I think he is a decent show for the MC.

I think that only a couple of horses (Viewed, Roman Emperor and Master O) are any chance of giving the MC a decent shake against Efficient, etc. Depending on what and how the Geelong Cup is won will determine if I put them in the chances as well.

it would be nice to see MO sitting midfield for once instead of 10-15 lengths at the back of the field. I love the horse but everytime i see him at the back of a large field i throw my ticket away. yes drew a bad gate, so did Vigor, and it made some position. Should have been instructed to trail Vigor to get into a lot closer position, hey but what would i know.....

A lot of MO fans state that but the fact is of late every time he gets into a big race he is straight out the back and given no hope. He has had his chance at big race glory IMHO.

Good point regarding Vigor. Didn't think of it that way. I think if he settled a little worse than midfield rather than dead last he would have a much better chance. Then again maybe he likes being raced at the end. All I know is I still think he is half a chance for the Melb Cup.

Reverse the barrier draw and the ride with Viewed and Master O and you reverse the result. Master O was massive easily the best run of the race imo.

Apparently Master O'Reilly's time in the straight (600m) was second to Viewed and was also second to Viewed over the final 200m...

My first comment post race was about Master O and his good run. Looked to have the same speed in finishing as Viewed.

Also, if you like Master O then you have to like Kirklees also - very similar run + got jostled about by the locals early on.

Viewed carried 53 last year in the MC. Moves to 58.
Efficient carried 54.5 2 years ago in the MC. Moves to 58.
Master O 53.5 for 8th two years ago, 55 for 4th last year. 55 I think this year.

I'm sorry but I think a lot of these comments are slightly delusional.

Anyone who has followed Master O's career since his CC win in 2007 will tell you he puts in runs like this time after time after time - but he never takes that next step to win.

Unfortunatley he has turned into an absolute money muncher - I am not sure why people don't realise it.

And if the best run wasn't the winners carrying top weight and winning by 2 lengths going away - I don't know what race I was watching.

C'est La Guerre is now in the same books with me as Pentastic and Arena. They could've (well Arena did but never did anything else) won multiple group 1's given a bit of luck and not running in the same era as champions (Diva, Lohnro et al) but never did as well as they should've.
I will never back CLG again, funnily enough I said the same thing about the Cat, prior to it going on a group 1 winning streak. I think I just got on it before it's time.
FWIW, Viewed's run was brilliant but Rawiller's ride gave it 2 lengths on the rest so it may have been closer otherwise. MOR was as usual an honest run without anything special, Roman Emperor and Daffodil were also the other impressive runs.
out of all that, I think the only 2 that have a MC chance are Viewed and Daffodil (considering it's first, tough run at Caulfield will do it the world of good)
