Ceglar looks the best of all our ruckmen atm, but he will need a rest if we want him to be primed in September.

why? He's hardly been an ever present this season and he's young. There are some players who need to be managed (Burgoyne etc), but not all - Ceglar plays until his form warrants being dropped.

I agree, if he's in form keep him in the team! At the moment he's looking like arguably our best ruckman in years!

I didn't think much of Ceglar when he first started playing for Hawthorn. To me, he seemed a bit passive to be a ruckman in that he'd contest the ruck and then just watch the contest around him.

But as he's played more and more games this season he's picked up confidence and he's been playing some very good football. Keeps this up and Hale will struggle to return this season, IMO.

Happy to eat crow on him.

I was watching the Legends Game on Tuesday, and who should be rucking but the great gigantic man, Damian Monkhorst.

And his rucking style was exactly like the Cegsy man. Move into the middle, body the opposition ruckman, contest, body him again, and get the ball down to the midfielders. He obviously coaches like he plays.

Helped the Vics to a win, too.

Random side note, i used to love monkey when he played.
Love him even more now though.

I too was one who semi-wrote off Cegs at the start.
But freaking hell he has worked hard and has come on heaps this year.

Cegs was great both he and BB were moving really well, I think we need to play this pairing for a few weeks, let Hale find some form and the magoos and only make a change on form or injury

Even Lowden's form this year has been better than Hales'....Truth be told, Hale looks SATISFIED with his Flag & for mine has put the cue in the rack!

1. Ceglar
2. McEvoy / Lowden (Should have had at least 5 games this season already)

5. Hale.....After the first 5 weeks, has dropped off big time. Unfortunately it took the club 7 weeks until the penny finally dropped!

If one of Cegs or McEvoy gets injured, then as of now, I'd be bringing in Lowden ahead of Hale......Easily.

I love Hale, but this guy is keeping him out of the team and performing well beyond my expectations. I thought he would be another back up ruck that would be off the list in 2. I was surprised we upgraded him this year but I thought we must have seen something in him to do it. Pies could do with him right about now with Grundy way out of form. He will play until injured and BigBoy looked the best I have seen him this year. I said earlier in the thread that I wondered if we would have chased McEvoy if we had known what Cegs was capable of. I am glad we have because they looked really good together Friday night. 2 genuine rucks that can both go forward. Both can run all day and Cegs looks like a genuine FF when he leads at the ball. Good signs for the future. Still can't believe BB is only 24. He looks 34 and plays with that sort of wise leader type of aura.

The Cegs/ McEvoy combination looks great. Cegs is the only one of the combination Hale/ Cegs/ McEvoy who can truly ruck, IMO. He's not the best kick for goal at the moment, but I feel he will improve with time.

It's sad that Hale has fallen off this season - I'm a big fan of the guy. Maybe he got what he wanted last year and feels less enthused about things now. I could be proven wrong, though. It would be good to see him with the hunger for the contest that he displayed last year.

seriously, BOG tonight, i dont give a rats how many crappy uneventful touches Danger got..

Can't compete with 40 possessions, even though 20+ were turned over, or so poorly directed that the next player could not get an effective pass by hand or foot, but could get blamed fot the turnover, thus inflating Danger's numbers.

I thought McEvoy played angry on Friday night. Big mistake not playing him against Goldstien. Loved both their games. If they keep that up it could be the difference against Sydney. Would love them to give Pyke a hiding.

Very harsh to say Haley is satisfied with the flag and has put the cue in the rack. He is in his 30's now ya know

Yep, sometimes players can go on and on.
But sometimes they just lose something after 30, a fraction of pace, a bit of reaction time, and sometimes a younger player can step up.

Hale's always had a great work ethic, so you can't blame that.
