So yes , some people do need someone to tell them how to spend their money.
Its welfare not " &%$* the kids im getting pissed."
Unfortunately it tells every person on welfare that they are untrustworthy drunks.

Why isn’t this card being given out to all mums and dads for tax breaks and supplements and the like?

Why wasn’t availability of basic services being assured before this card was rolled out?

Because the LNP are even bigger campaigners than any desperate drunk in a small outback town.

The people living in nice suburbs in the cap cities would be staggered if they knew just how many kids regularly get sent to school with little or no lunch in low socio economic areas. The parents seem to be able to budget for ciggies and booze though of course.
The theory is sound.

But with the way this sh*t govt awards contracts or handles any criticism ??.......
Not on your life
Yep good idea in theory but not sure if any government could roll it out effectively let alone a corrupt Liberal one.

The other massive problem of course is many children not even going to school with less than 10% attendance records. Why something so incredibly important is never talked about in a country like Australia is beyond me. Forget annoying people with making them do stuff like apply fo 50 non existent jobs but it it should be some sort of concrete obligation to send your kids to school regularly unless there is a valid reason not to. Otherwise your payments get cut back. Would solve the problem overnight.

Just have a relative on teaching prac. Plenty of stories there.

Indue
The Indue cashless welfare card is another nice little earner. The intent of the card (essentially a debit card) is to control how welfare payments can be spent. For instance, an Indue card cannot be used to buy alcohol. The company that administers the card, Indue Pty Ltd is a corporation owned by Liberal and National Party members that in turn donates to the Liberal and National parties.

Indue charges the Government $12,000 per card to administer. Yes, you read that correctly — $12,000. That’s taxpayers’ money (our money) going to a cabal of former Liberal and National MPs, who also then donate a portion back to their respective parties. That’s taxpayers’ money going straight back to the Party and the Indue shareholder skimming their own cut off the top.

But wait, there’s more! In remote areas, there are often very few stores where cardholders can spend their welfare money. In some remote mining communities, the only stores that will accept the Indue card are owned by the mining companies themselves — often Liberal Party donors. They can hike prices up and syphon off the taxpayers’ funds every time a purchase is made. It’s the old company store trick, revamped for the digital age.

Like i said.
Poor implementation.

Not sure why the government think they need to reinvent the wheel.
a) Who the * are Indue, why were they not talking to Visa or Mastercard or Elon Musk or something.
b) Yes you need to be aware of remote communities and either not issue it there or at least have a far greater cash component, not one size fits all.

I don't think you can be so precious if you are on welfare.
If the card worked, then the saying "beggar's can't be choosers" applies.

Trouble is they made a hash of it.

I don't know how much cash component they included, but if you were forced to not spend "half" your welfare on alcohol, that's hardly calling you an "untrustworthy drunk".
Having no shop you can use it within 150 km is total bullshit though, it needs to be something widely accepted.

"... hundreds of thousands of people who aren't employed and are immediately available to start work, yet they're not counted as officially "unemployed."
They don't affect the unemployment rate.
But as ABS reminds us, it's not as though life is easy for the 808,000 officially unemployed people either.

In February, ... nearly 90 per cent of people who were considered officially unemployed (and therefore did affect the unemployment rate) still had difficulties finding work.

Those difficulties included: age discrimination, lack of nearby public transport, lack of suitable skills, and too much competition from other job seekers.
And to put things in perspective.
In the February quarter, there were just 289,000 job vacancies.
But 2.2 million people wanted a job."

Govts, of all persuasions, have for the last 20-ish years completely destroyed social housing, to the point where hundreds of thousands are either homeless or on the brink of homelessness.
Having a stable home is just as important as going to school.
A bottle of milk is more expensive than a bottle of soft drink.

Most people would agree that welfare payments should be prioritised towards the necessities but the problem is a little more complex than just forcing people to do what you want.
When we demonise welfare recipients we are also demonising their kids.

This is absolutely disgusting. It's pure theft.

The company contracted by the federal government to run the controversial cashless debit card claimed $2m in jobkeeper payments before increasing its revenues during the pandemic.

Payments firm Indue, which was handed a $26m, two-year extension to its contract to keep running the scheme late last year, received about $2.1m in jobkeeper wage subsidies in total.

Cuomo in NY has the right idea.

Buy old blocks of flats and then lease them back to the city at $$$ rates per person as homeless shelters and housing refuges.

Say goodbye to JobActive and hello to NESM.

You'll notice how there is nothing in it for jobseekers but plenty in it for providers.

A new payment structure will support providers to deliver more intensive services for job seekers who need the most assistance. It will include:

- Up-front engagement payments to support early investment in job seekers.

Can anybody hazard a guess and tell us what "early investment in job seekers" means?

Ignore the long term unemployed

Most newly unemployed people still have get up and go and see Centrelink as transitional .

That's what I think it means

They leave newly minted jobseekers to their own devices for the the first 3 months because they have stats that show most jobseekers find a job, ALL ON THEIR OWN, in the first 3 months of being unemployed....which means this change to upfront/early investment is nothing more than providers cashing in on jobseekers finding their own job.

Oh look, we intervened early, we enrolled you into that super dooper resume writing course and it got you a job. Yay us.

Going by history : Sarina Russo gets handed a few more millions for getting a few resumes updated and flooding small business with unwanted jobseekers for the zero jobs on offer.

A few more millions??
APM, which recently floated, claimed in their prospectus that there was $200 million on offer for providers under the new scheme.

... because we won't pay Australians a fair wage, it might drive up inflation and reduce profits, and at all costs we must avoid that by relying on cheap imported labour again

So, so sick of these stories. * off, Frydenberg and your cohort of engorged leeches. * right off.

For anyone that wants work there is plenty of it around at the moment, that's the option if you want more money :thumbsu:
You don't have a problem with people being deliberately kept on the bread line while profitable, foreign owned in some cases, companies are given billions of no strings attached taxpayers money?

Government, especially these clowns wasting money is stupid but it's a separate issue I just mainly worry about what's in my control.

We aren't living in say a recession. There's plenty of work around at the moment, if you actually want it of course. If you are going to spend all day, every day sitting around 'holding out for a position in management' then I don't really have much sympathy for not ever having much money. It's also never been intended as, by either side of government, as being something that anyone is supposed to be existing for their whole lives on. Payments should be a bit higher and Centrelink improved for people as a service but there's not much excuse for spending long periods of time on it atm.

"Please explain why we didn't get in on the rort to maximise returns to shareholders and did we explore applying?" activist shareholder Stephen Mayne asked.
Northern Star chairman Michael Chaney said the question did not deserve a response.

"We didn't apply because we didn't need it," he said, to applause from the audience.

lol what a numpty, I'm glad it was met with ridicule.
