The whole industry has just become a big boys' club with the same few guys rotating through the various radio/television outlets that cover the game.

This is it in a nutshell (sorry for the cliche).

Foxtel and Free to air roll over the same names each year. There are some stark problems with this. Stark.

1. The commentators actually don’t understand the game. I listened to WC v Carlton yesterday and McGuire (I’ll get to him later) just doesn’t get it. You give his job to a punter on the street to state the obvious like Ed does.

2. There’s no insight and thorough analysis. You’ve got guys who just can’t keep up with the game and simply state what happened a second ago. The insight is awful.

3. There’s Victorian bias. Eddie McGuire. It’s wrong. It’s just wrong. This Victorian first mentality is a disgrace and it’s immature. It’s a national competition. Eddie has already embarrassed himself with racist gaffs in the past that have been brushed off. His history is poor. Yesterday’s game should have embarrassed his employer, yet there seems to be this agenda that it’s Victoria all the way.

If people remember the situation about 10-15 years ago where a PF had to be played at the MCG, Eddie was a staunch supporter and advocate of this. He kicked up a major stink when the system was changed. The guy is a blatant disgrace and his inability to act neutrally underlines his complete unprofessional approach to his job.

Eddie was so anti Eagles it wasnt funny.

Eagles kicked a good goal, Eddies comment, 'I thought the Blues should have got a couple of frees there'.

BT is alright. Tony Leonard etc.

3AW have the best team at the moment and Foxtel.

The 80s/90s had a higher quality of commentators in every sport.

The fake exitement makes me cringe. BT the worst offender, he comes across as sarcastic and like he’s attempting to be funny. Insanely irritating when your team has a goal kicked against them.

Eddie is pretty good but the same problem with the canned exitement. Really the only commentator who can pull it off is Huddo. Commentators should be sent a tape of ESPNs mike breen to see how it should be done properly

And for example, Sandy Roberts yesterday in saints game just misunderstood so many things that Riewoldt had to gently point out. I thought wow, he doesn’t get what is happening here and if it was on radio you would not have proper picture of the game.

So true , last week was shocking.
' its not currently raining but it might at some stage '

She is actually very decent on radio though . Have heard her on a few SEN calls and more then holds her own

Riewoldt is actually ok because he is not someone that appears to be a w***er. His knowledge of the game is obviously very good. We need people like him that are able to be articulate and explain the game as it is and as it is unfolding. I have no problem with ex players, but i don't want to listen to w***ers.

I actually don't have that much a problem with the commentary though I have my likes and dislikes. But the level of "special commentary" we get is appalling. Special commentary is supposed to bring us a type of insight that we don't have. How the play unfolded, who is doing something that we might not notice.
The clowns that we have just state the fricken obvious. Isn't Selwood tough? I think Port need the next one.

We are getting massively shortchanged here. It's a job for the boys. Ling, Richo, Carey - all dumb as dogshit and have no charisma. Not one of them is willing to hold a strong opinion and will trot out the most lazy, bland drivel.

And lets look wider than Ch 7. Ben Dixon? Seriously? Danny Frawley - lower your eyes. Ricciuto - sounds like you are going through puberty. Cam Mooney - come on now! Brad johnson - fence sitter personified. Paul Roos - tell us some more about Joey Kennedy. I could go on forever.

And that's not even getting started on the "journo's" who now think they are part of the game. They are simply sycophants who think that by retweeting a players, that they are now buddies. A player like Danger who knows how to play the "media" game, and they fawn over him.

It's cringe worthy just how poor the football media is these days. What have we done to deserve it?

They all seem to start off good - Pavlich is another that’s going okay but they then start to toe the party line and that’s the end of them
