A lot of people get worked up over a statistical algorithm.

Even CD know these aren't the "best" players, just that by position and their stats they classify as elite.

Some of these players show the algorithm is broken though juss. It is broken because CD don’t know what wins games of footy. Richmond clearly have players playing their roles in ways that must in reality be elite, but CD don’t know how to quantify the actions of those players. So they count kicks, and pressure acts and clangers, blind to the difference in value of certain kicks and pressure acts and clangers.

Of course. There'd be flaws in any algorithm, theres some bad outliers in there but its also got some winners too. Its obviously done better than just look at high fantasy points scored as its got players like Vlastuin in there.

I just reckon people often get so caught in what this is and what this isn't.

That's because of how they choose to report it

Is Mason Cox the most elite forward of the last 20 years? Better than Carey?

If Collingwood were smart they would build their side around Mason Cox and watch the premiership roll in.
Best big man below his knees I've seen in a generation and never goes missing.

Umm, yeah ..... no it doesn't.
could be elite in Tackles (remember you need just one category to be elite in...and you'd be labelled a CD elite so you'd stand shoulder to shoulder with Dusty/Lethal/Carey/Ablett...etc for their overall ability, well yeah I'm taking the piss but normally when you label someone as elite...you meant their overall football ability not just elite at running bounces)

Champion data doing us favors here... with many of our ‘non elites’ soon out of contract, we won’t have to pay them as much as the likes of the Steven motlops and Mason coxs of the AFL

thank CD, never change 👍

C Data explanation: “It’s really measuring impact if you like. Players that are winning the ball in contested possessions in a dangerous part of the ground get rated really highly as opposed to those who are winning it uncontested and going sideways or lateral and not really having that impact."

So Hawthorn has five elite players for an ultimate impact of five wins in seventeen games, while Richmond has three for an ultimate impact of fifteen wins and a draw from 21 games, including finals. Oh, and a flag.

I came here for the melts about Cox, he's definitely elite. I mean, anyone who performs like him every week in and out, showing us how to play the game. How could you even come to the thought that Cox is nothing but elite. Champion data says so!

Of course Cox is elite.

He's the best key forward at Collingwood.

Can't ever image the Tigers strategy guys sitting down examining a a game against GWS the notion that the key to winning is shutting down their elite players, checking with CD and putting all and only efforts into nullifying....... HARRY PERRYMAN!!!!

If yo-yo players are CD elite, then Harry Perryman must surely be most elite, Harry has never hurt the Tiges.
