Anyone interested in doing a preview for our first final please PM me.

Edit: thanks mpal6 ! If anyone else is still interested I'll also take expressions of interest for our second final, whoever and whenever that might be.

Funny how nervous most of us are.

I was going back to 2001-2004 - i honestly can't ever remember being nervous before or during a final at the gabba, but figured maybe it was rose tinted glasses.

6 finals - smallest winning margin 32 points - AVERAGE winning margin 56.5 points. Wow.
That was a scary, dominating team. This one is different. The key difference for me is that, like this team, we'd played quite a few Gabba finals before but we'd won ALL of them. Our recent finals history at the Gabba doesn't give us as much confidence, and some of those losses have tended to give supporters a form of PTSD. There's a lot at stake on Saturday week, for both clubs.

Yep definitely a better team

But also the confidence thing you mention - 2019 was almost a curse. We were probably 5th/6th best that year. if we had one a gabba elimination final and lost an away one it would have been 1-0 at the gabba and a good year for growth. Instead we went 0-2.

Our gabba finals record since 2019 is 2-4. If the above happened (and assuming we lost to the dogs in 2021 which maybe we wouldn't have because would have had more confidence but anyway) it would be 3-2 - hardly imposing but not the millstone it's become.

Are the boys getting a few days away from the club this week or are they coming into the club as per a normal pre game week?

Mighty Lions ?
Jarrod Berry’s interview after the game suggested they will be having a few days away from the club this week.

But if we make it straight through to a Prelim, Fages suggested in his pre game before the Saints game they will likely be business as usual with no break if we win this first game.
To try an avoid the down performance like against Geelong in the 2020 prelim after a double break.

HOF dinner tomorrow night with the current team obviously attending. I'd imagine train as normal, up to and including tomorrow, then perhaps a few days off till the weekend and then get back into it and treat next week then as a normal prep week?

Ports list also in pretty good shape for this time of the year

PLAYERINJURYESTIMATED RETURN
Noah Answerth Shoulder Season
Will Ashcroft Knee Season
Jack Gunston Knee TBC
James Madden Shoulder Season
Lincoln McCarthy Calf Test
Carter Michael Quad TBC
Daniel Rich Hamstring 2 weeks
Updated: August 29, 2023

Early prognosis

McCarthy is the main watch for Brisbane ahead of facing Port Adelaide. The half-forward trained on Tuesday and, barring any mishaps, should be fine to take his place. There was no sign of Gunston though, who would appear long odds to be available. – Michael Whiting

PLAYERINJURYESTIMATED RETURN
Tom Clurey Back Season
Charlie Dixon Foot 2 weeks
Mitch Georgiades Knee Season
Scott Lycett Knee Test
Trent McKenzie Knee 1-2 weeks
Josh Sinn Hamstring 2-4 weeks
Updated: August 29, 2023

Early prognosis

Hard to know this far out, but Lycett and McKenzie would appear to be chances to face Brisbane. Dixon seems more unlikely, but still has time to get enough work in to face the Lions. - Michael Whiting

I’m pretty sure they are contractually obligated to have a small break since this is meant to be the second bye of the season as negotiated in the CBA. So much like the regular bye, the players have I think about 3-4 days off where they are allowed to do whatever. They are workers all the same, I’m just pissed about this loophole from the AFL since 10 teams don’t even get two byes each season.
