anyone think we should try and use Rayner to defend Alir’s intercept game ? Similar to how Melbourne have used Melksham? Both Rayner and melksham are the same height 186cm. Alir 194cm but pumba can use his strength here to our advantage. Keep Alir away from Daniher and Hipwood.

Either that or you sacrifice Hippy to play a defensive role on Allir and go everywhere he goes.
If he sticks with Allir he will be in a lot of marking contests and could still get a few.

Last time Aliir started off very well, marking everything. We then started kicking it to Aliir's man (usually Hipwood I think) so that Aliir had to play spoiler rather than intercept. It didn't look great, but it definitely switched from us getting beaten to us halving the contest.

And then we absolutely shat the bed in the second half, but that started in the middle.

absolutely, posted yesterday IF we can get a forward sacrificing their game, we can go a long way to restricting Aliirs influence. Cam does play taller than 186cm and does have some grunt, so I like your suggestion to give him the match up.

PP, Dixon (if he plays) and Marshall will get plenty of ball from their high class midfield so this game has the potential to be a 'shoot out'

I believe it's a lot simplier than the way you are looking at it. When we have the ball and are coming into our forward 50, dont bomb it to Allir and whoever is playing on him. Either wait for a lead or chose another avenue inside our forward 50. Sacraficing one of or key forwards is an option but being smarter up the field when we have the ball makes a lot more sense....and our forwards would appreciate it even more.

Or worse, sacrificing an entire side of the field and hoping we can get a quick switch.

Lucky Aliir and Gawn are not playing in the same team.

On a serious note, we just need to find a way through.
However, if nothing presents itself it will be a kick down the line or a switch just like all other teams do.

I Take solace in the fact that last year in finals we stood up for the first two games after stumbling to the finish line in the home and and away season by being 2-2 in the final 4 games including the slaughter by the dees at the gabba.
this time 4-0 in the last 4 and the best out of the top 4 teams and the inform team of the comp. Also a bye that we think we need rather than derail our momentum. fingers crossed.

I can't believe we were leading at 1/2 time by 12 points then port outscored us 52/8 and 35/13 in q3/q4...

The last 5 games are 4 wins, 1 loss and we have not lost to port at the gabba since 2017

I can't believe we were leading at 1/2 time by 12 points then port outscored us 52/8 and 35/13 in q3/q4...

The last 5 games are 4 wins, 1 loss and we have not lost to port at the gabba since 2017

We were lucky to be in front at half time to be honest.
They were all over us but gave away a heap of free kicks which kept us in the game for the first half.
