changes for boxing day test.

The squad hasn't really changed.

I've got this nasty feeling they're going to drop Burns and promote Marsh to opener. I really hope they don't.

I agree, I think Burns is the one in strife. I am not convinced about either of them yet but Burns really needed to take his chance against the club side, I mean the windies. Marsh did that. The other suggestion is that Usman opens which I hope he stays at 3, he looked very good their against the kiwis.
I am still not convinced about Marsh.
I think it will be, Warner, s marsh, Usman, smith, Voges m marsh, Neville, Siddle, Pattinson hazelwood and Lyon

On another note, really glad Pattinson got through with out breaking down, as I thought it was to early to bring him back. Can't wait to see Pattinson and Starc fully fit opening the bowling

I'd be happy with this :thumbsu:

I'd drop Blackwood before anyone else. Three ducks in his last three innings against Australia.

After that, Chandrika should go. Three ducks in his four Test innings. Not Test standard. Barely proven that he's FC standard.

This is the side I'd like to see from them in Melbourne:

1. Kraigg Brathwaite (VC)
2. Shai Hope
3. Darren Bravo
4. Marlon Samuels
5. Shane Dowrich
6. Denesh Ramdin (+)
7. Jason Holder (C)
8. Carlos Brathwaite
9. Kemar Roach
10. Jerome Taylor
11. Jomel Warrican

Shannon Gabriel (injured)
Jermaine Blackwood (dropped)
Rajendra Chandrika (dropped)
Devendra Bishoo

If one of Roach or Taylor continues to bowl poorly in Melbourne, I'd drop them for Bishoo in Sydney. In fact, I'd probably just do it anyway.
I know Blackwood had a bad game but he is ok and Chandrija deserves another chance, Hope isn't very good. Rather have Blackwood and Chandrika over Samuels who doesn't seem to want to be out there.

Seems pretty simple to me, mitch marsh out usman in.

Not sold on burns yet but he has a decent start to his test career and he and warner have already had several good partnerships so why break that up so we can accommodate a test match number 8 batting at 6?

We have a tour to nz coming up where they will no doubt have green decks for us so surely we will need 6 actual batsmen rather than 5 bowlers and 5 batsmen?

This won't happen of course as our selectors are delusional about just how bad our batting is outside dead tracks, i can see the merit of playing a 5th bowler on our back breaking highways vs half decent batting lineups but overseas where we will face either swing or spin we simply don't have an actual allrounderwho is good enough to bat 6 and give us some overs.

Then they will play 5 pacemen, I guess. A few of the batsmen can roll the arm over if they need spin.

Not much point dragging a player all the way to Melbourne just in case your spinner injures himself during a one hour warmup.

Warner, Burns, Khawaja, Smith, Voges, S.Marsh, Nevill, Pattinson, Coulter-Nile, Hazlewood, Lyon.

M. Marsh to go and get some time in the middle for WA, as he's unlikely to get it in Melbourne.

BBL?

Burns may be unlucky, replaced by Khawaja at the top of the order. S.Marsh made runs here, albeit against the Windies, but he also made tough runs when it mattered against NZ. So doubt he'll lose his spot. On the bright side it's nice to be talking about changes due to players be IN FORM. Nice change!

Siddle has lost much of his penetration, just 3 wickets in the last 2 Tests. Without getting over-confident you could play Coulter-Nile without much cricket against the West Indies (hope that doesn't bite me on the arse...lol). Especially now Pattinson has had a run.

So maybe...

Warner
Khawaja
Smith
Voges
S.Marsh
M.Marsh
Nevill
Pattinson
Coulter-Nile
Lyon (up to no.10. Better bat than Hazelwood)
Hazelwood

Could be a few combinations though.

They should pick Bishoo for Sydney, otherwise why bring him?

Personally I'd play Bishoo in every Test. He's in their best 4 bowlers, and it's not like they're a team with enough depth not to be picking their best side every time.
I think both spinners will play in Sydney. In their last test in Sri Lanka Bishoo kept dropping short and Warrican bowled really well.

I would rather Usman Khawaja not get picked in the 11 than drop Burns. Burns doesn't deserve to be dropped. He is averaging 40 with the bat and regularly builds a strong opening partnership with Warner.

My choice would be drop to Mitch Marsh and play Khawaja at 3. We really don't need Marsh's bowling against the West Indies and Lyon is bowling well so we can always bowl him from one end for a while to help rest our quicks.

I would rather Usman Khawaja not get picked in the 11 than drop Burns. Burns doesn't deserve to be dropped. He is averaging 40 with the bat and regularly builds a strong opening partnership with Warner.
The concern with Burns is that since the first Test of the summer big flaws have been present in his game. It's concerning to see an opening bat being bowled regularly and he also has that dirty habit of hanging the bat outside off-stump. A poor short legger too, though that isn't entirely his fault. I'd rather Khawaja open and keep S Marsh in the middle order. I'd also keep Mitch Marsh due to his bowling in case Patto breaks down (with a healthy dose of bias!)

Is it mandatory to have an all rounder in the side? With a batting side like the West Indies at the moment you could probably afford to drop M Marsh and bring him back for another series. You could easily get 10 overs out of Smith & Voges if they want something else.

Khawaja scored 174, 9* and 121 in his 3 innings against NZ.

Burns has scored 71, 129, 40, 0, 14, 11, 33.

S Marsh has scored 2, 49, 182.

It's an interesting scenario because the most established of the three is Burns who just played his 4th test in a row. It's not like we've got Warner or Smith coming back in. It's also interesting because competition among the top 5 is strong, but #6 is seemingly off limits.

IMO the most likely 12th man will be Burns, Khawaja, S Marsh, M Marsh in that order. I actually think it's OK if Khawaja doesn't play. You don't deserve to be dropped off the back of two 100s but he wasn't dropped, he got injured and someone had to come in. S Marsh will be back in pair mode soon enough anyway.

People saying M Marsh should be dropped are dreaming, there is no other all rounder in the squad so he will stay.
I think the argument is, there shouldn't be an all rounder unless they are up to batting in the top 6.
Unfortunately the selectors don't agree. They stuck with Watson for way too long hoping they'd get something from him, now Marsh.

Khawaja got burnt massively in Sri Lanka from the Marsh/Ponting replacement debacle and it took him over three years to properly regain his place in the team. If he misses out in this case, it will send a horrible message that injury is an excuse for one being dropped.

I like S.Marsh, but he has to go out. Khawaja is the incumbent, Burns deserves more time and M.Marsh's bowling is very underrated and is vital in balancing the pace attack.
