changes for boxing day test.

Marsh fell victim to it last time he was dropped, would be stiff to miss out for Boxing Day.

Last time he was dropped was because he was covering for injured, then fit Shane Watson, wasn't it?

Edit:I forgot about him playing one test in the test of horror in England but then that was a bit of a minor shambles that tour regards selection.

At the end of the day this is a good selection issue to have (which has been rare to say for our batting stocks). I think we need to factor into our decision how flat the wickets have been. The way I see it Marsh made the hard runs in Adelaide to win us the Test whereas since the pancake first Test of the summer Burns has been poor. That swings the pendulum Marsh's way for me.

Burns has shown some worrying technical deficiencies, likely to be further exposed on seaming decks if he is persisted with, whilst S.Marsh has shown increased surety in a middle order role.
Call me old-fashioned but I'm not that fussed whether a player has technical deficiencies or not - it should simply come down to runs.

Terrible post.

Yes, his test career has had it's shit periods but they've been interspersed with innings of high class and quality. As an ODI batsman, he stacks up as one of our best as well.
The utter shit has outweighed the class innings of by a long way.

Burns is the odd man out unfortunately. He just hasn't cashed in enough. He doesn't deserve to get dropped but Marsh has been really good since his recall and Khawaja has 2 tons in a row. I'm a biased QLDER so I'm going to be cut deep that Burns gets dropped.

Is there a chance Khawaja doesn't get up though?

His time will likely come when Voges calls it quits or has a drop off in form i'd imagine. The move can't be justified presently
Don't play Mitch Marsh. If the fifth bowler has to do enough work to justify selection, odds are enough have runs have been conceded to need six batsmen. If he doesn't get that much work, its wasting a batting spot.
The "all-rounder spot" is one of the worst fallacies of modern Test selection.

Warner
Khawaja
Smith
S Marsh
Burns
Voges

I think Smith should bowl himself more anyway, he's loose bot also dangerous; Voges can do a stop-gap tight role; and Warner can roll the arm over at a pinch when necessary.
The question is whether M Marsh is actually a better batsman right now than S Marsh or Burns. I don't think so, but can understand that others would fiffer on that point.

Actually, the real question is how does one four hour game prove fitness for a five day one. I wouldn't be bringing Khawaja back on that basis.

Today's Innings reminds me of When Marsh got his debut. Century in Sri Lanka, as a replacement for Ponting. Gets injured 2 tests later; scores 99 in his return match for Perth Scorchers, before spudding it up against India.
Hope Khawaja fairs better than that on his return.

I don't view a T 20 match as enough to prove fitness for a test match but the selectors seem to.
There's no other option, And 20 overs in the field (and a long stint in the middle batting) is probably more than they would put him through in practise...

Smacking a ton and fielding 20 overs is a decent way to prove fitness. It could easily have been 10 off 7 balls and 20 overs of fielding which doesn't really put him through much of a fitness test though
