Warney's IPL team!
Seing its a Sunday game melbourne will add 3 players to its team and the final team listed on Saturday morning in the paper.

Valenti Buckley Martin all in

MELBOURNE
B: Matthew Whelan, Matthew Warnock, James Frawley
HB: Brad Green, Colin Garland, Chris Johnson
C: Cameron Bruce, Brock McLean, Lynden Dunn
HF: Matthew Bate, Brad Miller, Aaron Davey
F: Colin Sylvia, Paul Johnson, Austin Wonaeamirri
Foll: Jeff White, Clint Bartram, Nathan Jones
Int: Paul Wheatley, Simon Buckley, James McDonald, Shane Valenti

Ins: Simon Buckley, Shane Valenti

Outs: Jace Bode, Mark Jamar

I want to see us try White in the ruck with PJ backing up from FF. Tippett has done it for Adelaide a few times and it works alright.

Melbourne Squad
B: M.Whelan, C.Garland, M.Warnock
HB: B.Green, P.Wheatley, C.Bruce
C: C.Sylvia, B.McLean, L.Dunn
HF: C.Johnson, M.Bate, A.Davey
F: S. Martin, B.Miller, A.Wonaeamirri
Foll: P. Johnson, C.Bartram, N.Jones
Interchange from: J.Bode, S.Buckley, N.Carroll, M. Jamar, C.Morton, J.White, S.Valenti

Team Changes
In: Simon BUCKLEY, Nathan CARROLL, Stefan MARTIN, Cale MORTON,
Shane VALENTI.
Out: James McDONALD (groin), James FRAWLEY (omit).

- Martin straight in, doubt he'll play in the forward line though. Can't see Carroll getting a gig.
- White named on the bench?? If he doesn't play (hope not) we won't have a 200+ gamer in the team, surely the most inexperienced team we've fielded in a while. Not necessarily a bad thing, just interesting.
- Buckley and Valenti should play

It would be incredibly moronic in this day and age to go into a game without two established ruckmen...Then again, Martin has been known to ruck yeah? I would be spitting chips to see Jeffery omitted

How sore do you think Junior's groin is - I'm guessing its time to rest the senior players through any excuse to get some young guys in. Also I'd be very annoyed in Dean Bailey drops Frawley to play Carroll, thats not right! I know CD won't like this, but I'd love to see Jeff White out, he has had it all his own way for too many seasons now, he's a big unit who can impact games, but I can't think of the last time he did it besides kicking the winning goal against the dogs a few years back!

I sort of see your point here MB. I liken it to the Dal Santo/Milne situation at the Saints. OF course, they are in the best 22, probably even in the first 10 or 12 picked but under performing (like Jeff is this year IMO). Therefore, if he gets dropped, it sends a message out to the squad/AFL world that the MFC won't accept mediocre efforts from people who should be performing a lot, lot better.

Saying that, I can't see him getting dropped.

My other thought is, with Junior out, surely Valenti will get a game as a smaller, inside midfielder? We need to give this kid a run of games so we can make a decision at the end of the year whether he's just a very good VFL player or an AFL-standard player.

B: M.Whelan, C.Garland, M.Warnock
HB: B.Green, P.Wheatley, C.Bruce
C: C.Sylvia, B.McLean, L.Dunn
HF: C.Johnson, M.Bate, A.Davey
F: S. Martin, B.Miller, A.Wonaeamirri
Foll: P. Johnson, C.Bartram, N.Jones
Interchange from:S.Buckley C.Morton, J.White, S.Valenti

The 22 i would like to see play on saturday, buti could easily see Bode staying in for anoher week in fron or morton. interesting to see how martin goes, he may play forward as our back line is pretty settled. I think frawley will make way for martin, depending on how big Brisbane go with their forward line.

Garland - brown
Warnock - bradshaw

I'd say your about right with the side, but i was thinking about the match-ups and i think i've figured out where Bailey is going with selecting Martin.

Martin - Brown
Warnock - Bradshaw

Garland to FF.

Not that i want to take Garland out of our defence, but it makes sense. Garland has shown glimpses up forward for us and now has some confidence at AFL, albeit as a defender. With Newton still being a fair way off and PJ not being a realistic long term option, Garland might be tried forward as we seemed to have an abdunance of tall defenders and next no tall forwards, Garland is the only defender who could be swapped forward.

I'd go with:
B: Whelan Martin Garland
HB: CJ Warnock Bartram
C: Green McLean Wheatley
HF: Bruce Bate Davey
F: Sylvia Miller Wonaeamirri
Foll: PJ Dunn Jones
Interchange: Buckley Morton Jamar Valenti
Emer: White, Carroll, Bode
In: Buckley, Morton, Valenti
Out: White, Bode, Frawley

I would have liked to see Garland go forward this week but with Frawley dropped and no chance of me selecting Carroll he has to stay in the backline to play on Mitch Clarke whilst Martin gets Bradshaw and Warnock gets Brown. This leaves us with very few options up forward (and I wont play PJ there because I can't see the point) so quick ball movement will be the key and with lots of midfielders on the bench we can really try and out run them. Using Bate and Miller as focal points the aim should be to get the ball off to Sylvia, Wona, Davey and others. Also for my sneaky tactic of the week - Jace Bode (if somehow he gets a game) to go to the half forward line, I just see unfashionable forward in this guy somewhere and him in the backline isn't working too well.

The Lions will probably play 3 talls so we'll need Martin, Warnock and Garland all back there.

I think we'll have the same forward structure that we did against Sydney, Bate and Miller as the main targets with PJ in a pocket.

Foll: Paul Johnson, Clint Bartram, Nathan Jones
Int: Jace Bode, Simon Buckley, Mark Jamar, Shane Valenti
Emg: Nathan Carroll, Cale Morton, Jeff White

Jeff White is out and I'm happy! I'd rather Morton than Bode but if Bode does nothing this week we can write him off and another week in the 2's wont hurt Cale. Good to give Buckley and Valenti another go.

well... i think you guys can admit you're going for the number 1 draft pick now... leaving jamar in who is a complete spud, while leaving out White, a great servent of your club, given his all for the MFC. Pretty terrible decision from Dean Bailey, that is unless you're tanking..... then its a great decision!!!

its called setting standards. every team does it.
saints did it last week with dal santo and milne.

Soft and useless.

Soft? I don't think so but your opinion.

Useless? Far from it and looking at Mark Jamar, give me a "useless" Jeff White any day.

Very happy to see him axed. Something which NEVER would have happened in the Daniher era. Well done Bailey! :thumbsu:

Because there was nobody to replace him with and he was playing well.

So what was your half a decade of scooping the cream from the top of the draft barrel called? List Management perhaps???

Good 2 see Stef Martin be given an oppurtunity. I hope Bails chucks him on Bradshaw and he shuts him outta the game, that would be f****** fantastic!

Don't know why White was dropped over Jamar TBH.

White must have broken a team rule or something.

While i usually wouldnt agree with playing jamar over white (or anyone), white needs a shake up and i'm sure bailey has tried other things that obviously haven't worked, because whites form of late has been putrid.

And as bad as everyone says Jamar is, he dominated in the VFL 2 weeks ago and couldn't really be denied a spot in the team, and on the weekend white didnt do any more then jamar, so jamar is the form player of the 2. A week or 2 at sandringham for white and he'll either be refreshed or tell Bailey (and us) that he needs to go at the end of this year.

Looking at it that way, it had to happen sometime this year if white's form wasn't great. He's been a great servant of the club, so better now so that he can try to prove that he's worth keeping for next year then dumping him without warning at the end of the year.

No words can describe how unbelievably angry I am at the moment. Yeah, OK, White hasn't had the best season BUT C'MON JAMAR AHEAD OF HIM??? It hurts enough that he's my favourite player, it hurts enough that I've got 34 on the back of my jumper but my god that is a woeful decision...Had he been dropped for a promising ruck I wouldn't mind as much but the fact that Jamar, that absolute tree stump of a footballer is getting a run ahead of Jeffery just gets my goat!!!

It's not very often I crack it on BF but this is certainly one of those moments:mad::mad::mad::mad:

And it doesn't help that he's gone from my DT and my backline has been decimated without McLeod and Cornes:thumbsd:

The White decision is pretty simple really, Jamar occasionally wins hit outs and even more occasionally they go to our advantage. White doesn't do either. Jamar doesn't touch it round the ground, White gets in the way with useless backwards and sideways kicks and handballs, and his stupid waving hands 'kick it to me' crap. That and the fact that Jamar is much younger and has a 5% chance of getting better is why White is dropped.

100% on the money.

Dez!... in regards to your second point, I wasn't specifically referring to White, more to the core group of experienced players who were undoubtedly a protected species under Daniher. It's good to see Bailey doesn't seem to play favourites at the selection table!
