Changes for R8 v Sydney

Surely Stenglein must come back this week to go against the likes of kirk and bolton. Its not a good game to bring in Swift or Houlihan IMO. If Emac is not ready or Brown then Wilkes must be considered.
But plz West Coast no Fletch!!!

Regardless of whether Stenglein is suited to the Swans style of game, I don't want him back in. I'd rather move forward with the kids.

I think it's pretty obvious we are missing some experience and mature bodies in the middle, particularly with Kerr out. I'd bring either Fletcher or Stenglein back in. I'm favouring Fletcher as we need someone who can find a bit of the pill too I think.

The obvious doubtfulls are Kerr (groin) and Cockie (ankle), Cockie did come back on after getting his ankle restrapped but he limped off looking pretty sore and he only had to play out the final 10 - 15 minutes. Hopefully he's ok because against Sydney we need hard players around the packs.

Who will tag Goodes is one question? Schofield / Spanger are two good options.

Cox is looking tired, when will we have to bring in Seaby?

McKinely isn't doing enough thats for sure, Le Cras looks good up the field and judging from comments from Burns, Le Cras is more of a natural midfielder / HFF than McKinely.

EMac and Brown would come in if fit.

So based on this:

Out: Kerr (groin), McKinely, MacNamarra (possibly)

In: MacKenzie, Ebert, Brown

Wirra Glass Bones
Hurn EMac Spanger
Rosa Butler Embely
Cockie Kennedy Nicoski
Hunter Lynch Le Cras

Cox A Selwood Schofield

INT: Brown, S Selwood, Masten, Ebert

Interesting way to look at things. Considering the Swans play a very inside game I cant see how Fletcher will improve our side too much. He's a receiver and has been for a long time.

I think we should watch how the Dockers dismantled the Swans, basically pushed the ball into space whenever they had the chance and the likes of Hill and Hinkley ran on and exposed the swans lack of pace.

I mentioned early I thought we should bring in Stenglien just for some size at the contest, but Im also leaning toward some genuine pace.

Swift must be considered.

Ultimately, at the most basic level, everytime we have the ball, the opposition doesn't.

Now I get that these days you need to be precise and have the skills, but with blokes like Spangher, Schofield, Cockie, McNamara and Masten in the side, we just don't have enough ball winners/gatherers.

Obviously how you use the ball plays a huge part but at the end of the day, you still have to get the ball and we are running out of those types.

Fletcher is a stop gap at best but given he has a mature body and has such experience, I think he'll be of more value then another debutant or kid. He also may be purely outside but then he provides good value on finding space and relieving the pressure on players in contested situations.

I don't think the Eagles will go down that path but it's what I'd do for those reasons.

Whats the word on Brown, McKenzie and Priddis. I would think if all were named in the team to take on Melbourne that they all wouldnt be more than a week away. So hopefully they can come back into the team which means 3 outs at least.

Kerr and Cockie probably wont play so theres another 2 outs.

5 changes isnt good.

But that would make it
In: Brown, McKenzie, Priddis
Out: Kerr, Cockie, someone else.

Three changes.

For what it's worth, I don't expect to see Priddis back in based on what's been said. I wouldn't rule out MacKenzie, Brown or Cockie for this week but Kerr's a definite out.

Brown and Mckenzie will be fine for this week - so Spangher may miss.

kerr and Priddis definately out so need another mid - Ebert?

Cockie - ? don't know why he would be out as i didn't see the game yet.

Hunter at the very least hits packs hard and crunches bodies. All else being equal, he deserves selection over McKinley on that basis.
Good point.

For those at the game, how was Hunters leading v McKinleys?

Who did the most double back giving more than 1 or 2 leads.

Work ethic, who contributed more?

Biggie, the answer is probably Hunter, but what good are the leads when he is reluctant to/ cant take a mark above his head?

He is apparently playing under considerably duress, has to have injections each week before playing for the pain. Give him a week off this week and let him play his 150th game in front of the home crowd the following week. Then he needs to make some big decisions about his future IMO. Surgery is his only option, other than playing on in pain, but there is no guarantee it will be successful.

Maybe we bring in Seaby, he played very well this week at WAFL level. Give Hunter the rest and put Lynch back to FF.

I think we need to bring back Fletcher or Stenglein for midfield presence with both Kerr and Priddis out.

IN: Stenglein, Seaby, Mackenzie

Apparently Priddis is a chance this week (test). Must admit I thought it was more serious and was going to be around 3 weeks. Kerr has a slight adductor strain and will be tested (I would've thought at least a week or two but if he's good to go then great). Brown and McKenzie are almost certain to come back in.

Thats three automatic ins if they're all fit. You'd think Schofield and Spangher out for both Brown and McKenzie, with S Selwood out for Priddis.

If they're toying with bringing in Stinger (did he play in the WAFL on the weekend btw?) possibly Jnr Selwood out??

I'm all for bringing into the kids but its a long season and we are not even half-way through. I rather we share a bit of the load. Ad the kids cope injuries as highlight by McKenzie and Brown missing a game this week. We don't want burn out them.

And with Kirk still a tackling machine still and Kerr and Priddis possibly out, we can't afford not to add some experience, don't know who exactly.

The mistakes Cox is making lately, I would be tempted to bring in Seaby.

That's all well and good at Subi, but ANZ stadium just doesn't let you do that.

I'll eat my words if it's the case, but ANZ Stadium is not a footy ground, it's rectangular. There's no space out wide.

Really? From what Ive seen on the box, the wings look very wide. I'll try and find the dimensions.

Anz Stadium is actually wider than Subi.

ANZ Stadium dimensions - 159.5m x 128.8m

Subiaco - 175.6 metres x 122.4 metres

Fair enough, the shape of the stadium must just be misleading.

No biggy, I just remember looking at the fixture and thinking we were a real show on the wider ground.

It's why the likes and Freo were able to beat them at Subi, and why Collingwood seem to have their measure. The Pies push the ball wide and use run to expose the slow midfield brigade.

I Reckon Kennedy will have an epic game.

I reckon we have a fairly decent chance to pull this one off. Sydney have dropped back a bit this year so (hopefully) we'll give them a bit of a shake.

We have more chance at ANZ stadium than we do at the SCG. That's something at least.

Jolly is a class act. A genuinely skilled ruckman. If Cox is getting tired then Seaby should be brought in. We need Lynch up forward at the moment.
