Couldn't give a stuff about him "chasing".
He's a forward- he kicked goals, job done.

It's a shame our other forwards can't do the fundamental skill that is their primary job- to kick goals in a forward line.

Not do everything else except that.
Once upon a time we would have Didak, Medhurst, Davis running around- -all renowned for one thing- goals.

These days we value our forwards on everything except this - such as chasing.
It's why we are where we are.

Complete nonsense, forward 50 pressure is one of the most important aspect of modern footy because without it teams like the Bulldogs whip the ball from deep into defence and waltz into the forward line with defensive rebound and cut you up time after time. Forwards "chasing" not only stops opposition goals but also causes your teammates to kick more goals

If it rains controlling stoppages and getting an advantage there become more important.

Cox actually was good in the ruck with his tap work, would keep him in the side...
That covers 20-25% Ruck time...what about the other 75% game time in the forward line?
If it rains...cannot play Cox.
Grundy can handle the load, with Moore pinch hitting in Forward half.

My preference is Aish & Broomhead in (like most others).
Then either Cox or Blair to go out...dependent upon weather...

We are going to have at least 10 changes from this years round 2 in comparison to last year.
Last year round 2 game:
Sinclair
Brown
Langdon
Frost
Williams
Oxley
Greenwood
De goey
Cox
Cloke
Macaffer
Pendles**

**yes he played but didnt he have broken ribs and hardly went into the middle

So this years likely differences:

Howe
Schade
Smith
Maynard
WHE
White
Phillips
Goldsack
Cox
Mayne
Sidebottom

Thanks for letting Varcoe play MML ;)

Kirby Kirby Kirby KIIIIIRRBBBYYY!!

A guy can dream can't he!?

Playing Kirby right now would be a nightmare.

He'll be cooked by quarter time and spend the next 3 quarters waddling around while his direct opponent wrecks havoc.

He's played 1 good VFL practice game (and yes even VFL players take practice games easy), still at minimum needs another preseason to be even in contention for AFL level, probably 2-3 preseasons before we see his best really.

Depends how you play him.

In the VFL last year he was instructed to remain inside 50, and do the bulk of his work inside the arc. Kicked 9 goals in the 2 games he played.

Why can't he be used the same way for us, it's not like his opponent will be sucked up the ground, he will need to remain within vicinity of him.

I'd have an oxygen tank on the bench for him ;)

I don't know how much AFL footy you've watched recently but the stay at home forward died many years ago, nowadays Kirby will have to push up and down to ground to complete our zone and also chase and pressure hard for FOUR quarters.

If he still averages 4 goals a game in a month or two of VFL footy then you could seriously start talking about him, until then we need to be patient because he's likely 2+ years away from consistent AFL football.

I've never read such nonsense in my life.. 2+ yrs away from consistent afl football? Yeah ok man.

I think we're missing a trick here.

Lynden Dunn to come in and play back. Reid to squish Riewoldt, Dunn to Griffiths. Howe and Maynard to provide zoned support and keep Butler, Castagna quiet. Ramsay to Rioli.

WHE to play the wing (Varcoe). Aish for Blair.

In: Aish, Dunn
Out: Varcoe, Blair

Bet you said the same thing when Broomhead Ramsay and Kennedy were drafted

Very few kids have a big impact in their first 2 years, even less that start with poor fitness.

Mate Kirby hasn't played a game as yet. So your comment is null and void.. who's to say that he won't.. who's to say that he will.

For the most part.. of course it takes a player a while to develop.. that's such a generalization. So there's no point in stating the obvious.

And if the bloke is kicking 4 goals a game in the vfl.. why the hell would you leave him in there.

He'd be cooked by quarter time but the game would be already over given how many goals Kirby has kicked
