Preview Changes for round 2 vs GWS

Yep, this 666 has changed the dynamics of the game entirely. The need for pace is now even greater, but also so is the absolute need for contested ability. We need more of the Shuey and Yeo types - we must persist with Venerables, but need a new infusion too - Foley, Mallen or Ahchee, perhaps.

666 doesn’t change stoppage clearances. Which is where we got beaten more than anywhere else, lack of fight in close is what gave them the ability to spread and make us look slow and reactive.

Maybe our forwards didn’t press up enough or impact on the contest.

I would not call Masto an in and under player - not in this universe. Brayshaw is but he is supposed to be slow, so I don't think that will be an option.

It’s his biggest weakness these days. Good in space if he can run all day, a liability in close.

Rioli, JK, cripps in
Hickey, Waterman, Petruccelle out

Hickey total dud. Waterman absolutely no impact. He moves like a 203cm ruckmen not a 191cm medium forward. Useless when the balls on the deck. Petruccelle looks to be a 1 or 2 effort guy. No desperation or intensity.

I want to see more of Brander. If Vardy needs a spell I'd throw Brander back and either McGovern or Barrass into the ruck. Gov used to ruck at Claremont so he'd be my first choice. Himmelberg and Cameron are very mobile and the Gov may not have a natural opponent this week anyway.

Also if JK doesn't come up this week I'd be bringing in Schofield if he's available and throwing either Gov or Barrass forward to take some grabs. Gov would have at least grabbed some of those shitty long bombs we sent inside 50 last week.

Rioli, 23, is alarmingly suffering early stages of stress fractures in his foot.

Rioli will be further examined this week ahead of selections for Saturday’s night of home base celebrations for the reigning premiers.

His absence is likely to be listed as indefinite.

Fears are that the ailment can recur with increased running and training loads.

its ****en hackdorn. but sadly his sources have been on point lately....

Massive dissapointed in the game we played but i think we really chose the wrong side to head out there. We have to many talls and i get the want to fit them in because Brander and Allen are talent but for the meantime we should only have one till JK retires.

The ruck situation was terrible but we do have a few options we could try.

One of Hickey & Vardy to do the majority of the ruckwork or we use O Allen as a pinch hitter.

I would just try out option 2 with Allen and see how that works for a few weeks or we bite the bullet till Nic Nat comes back.

Now when Gaff comes back i can see another problem arising in regards to Masten. Now Masten has been a great runner and was integral to our success last year but he lacks the versatility to play some minutes on the inside. In Gaffs absence we played Redden on the other wing so when Gaff comes back i would have Gaff replace Masten with Redden on the other wing , we then have some versatility as Gaff was decent last year when he spent some minutes in the guts.

Changes for round 2:

In: JK, Ah Chee
Out: Brander, Hickey

Hurn Barrass Shep
Jetta Gov Duggan

Masten Sheed Redden

Ah Chee Darling O Allen
Ryan JK Pet

Ruck: Vardy Shuey Yeo

Bench: Cole Venables Hutchings Waterman

As Waterman's kicking is so "off" more than "on" wouldn't it be better to include Brander on the bench instead?

I look at Masten and I see the same thing I have seen for almost 200 games: what is he really offering?

He offers no defensive pressure and rarely tackles
He is extremely weak over the ball
Has barely won a contested possession in his life
Doesn't hurt teams at all on the scoreboard

The counter argument seems to be his capacity to run, which would be great.......if this were a track and field team.

Footy requires far more then just an great aerobic capacity or the capacity to run an excellent 3km time trial

Went missing after quarter time

Other than JD our forwards have 10 games between them. (well approx - you ger, the point) I think the lack of forward pressure and accountability for Bne backs was a key element. Our Mids were left for dead with the run generated and support given to Bne mids

No one seems to be mentioning how the runners affected our game. It seems that Brisbane were able to adjust to this while the eagles looked like headless chickens without a clue. Case in point, Barrass rucking. We need our leaders on the field to have more of a clue of wtf the team needs to do rather then the coaches having to drill the message.

Hagdorn on 6PR this morning said that Rioli has a stress fracture and his time out of the game could be "indefinite". Make of that what you will!

Most likely back this week then given who has sprouted it.

Seriously though, it doesn't sound good. I think of all our outs last week, this is the one that hurt the most.

IN JK, Sneeze, Cripps (if avail)
OUT Waterman, Brander and Venables out.

Hickey gets another go but on last chance.
Venables needs a wake up- he has been given a lot of opportunity for little return so an early season shake up to let him know its not a free ride might get him stepping up. Survives if Cripps isnt available.
Petch gets 1 more go, he has shown a lot of promise this preseason so give him a chance. Needs to rack up 5 tackles minimum.
Brander- I didn't mind his game but Allen's was better and we need to drop a tall (in addition to Waterman who was shizen).
Sneeze can play wing of forward.

Shows how our medocs are hey? Great preseason then out. Oh well onto 2020

Indefinite means there is no timetable for return whatsoever. Could linger through 2020. Better write off the next ten years just to be safe.
