ottens in for west
prismall in for tenace
rooke for bynes if fit

If you watched the essendon game today when there speedsters where under pressure in the first quater they played shit, and as we are the best pressure side in the comp i think there fast guys will stuggle to hit targets and panic. rooke my be slow but can read the play well and really puts the pressure on, especially smaller midfielders like pearce, rodan and p burgoyne in the gf. Who will ling get??? Watson, Stanton or McVeigh

:thumbsu:Go Cats:thumbsu:

Tenace was bought in to counter a fast side; we are up against another fast side. So its hard to see him getting dropped for now. Although would love for him to. Rooke I personally think should play a bunch of games in the two's. When he came back into the Finals last year he was a bit rusty and nowhere near his best. Now that its early season, good chance to lead him into senior games.

anyone else wanna drop blake?
For someone who has a 'point' to prove and has had a massive summer he was sh*Thouse on thurs night. More upside with west i beleive

IN ottens taylor davenport
Out Blake hunt bynres

hmm.... Dunno about dropping hunt for taylor,Ess will be fast taylor will be to tall IMO with no lucas we dont need heaps of talls,

I would also take Prismal over Davenport,

But Agree with dropping blake for Otto,Need to be showen hes not a shoe in,Now we got rid of Kingy.

Gotta give Blake a couple more weeks, especially considering he was up against arguably the best ruck duo in the competition. Heaps of players were rusty last week - Johnson did crap all, maybe we should drop him too. I can see Blake turning into a sort of scapegoat like Brynes is when the Cats don't play particularly well. "Oh its Blakes fault, drop him."

Hunt wont be dropped mate but hes hurt his ankle and might not come up.
Taylor would be agood replacement after excellent form in he 2s yest

Good point. But back to the original thread.......

I'd say Ottens will come in for West, that's pretty obvious. If Rooke is fit he'll come in, but not sure who for. You would think either Byrnes or Gamble. It won't be Tenace as he's doing Wocjinski's job. Prismall is just really unlucky at the moment, hopefully a spot will open up before long.

I'm with you Partridge - Ottens (if right) will come in for West. Outside of that, I honestly don't see any need to make any other changes.

If Hunt doesn't come up then Rooke or perhaps Taylor comes in.

I'm not going to say I have read all the posts in this thread (so slap me) but I don't see any need to make too many changes to a side that defeated last year's runner-up, at a ground Geelong has traditionally struggled to win at, with a side that was missing Ottens, Wojcinski and Rooke and had below par performances from Bartel, S. Johnson and Mooney.

Yet Geelong still won.

Sure, like anyone I can find spots for other players but one of Geelong's strengths last year was a settled side.

So for mine, Ottens in, West out. Another run in the VFL for Rooke won't hurt him.

I actually think West showed plenty, at the age of 20, he is a big boy! I think he showed far greater depth than I have EVER seen from Blake! I would persist with West as 2009 he may just be in the top 5 ruckmen of the league! Just stick with him, you could probably afford to carry him through the season, If Ottens plays half as well as 2007!

Yeh i have to agree but dont see it happening

The side I want to see:

B: J.Hunt M.Scarlett D.Milburn
HB: A.Mackie T.Harley C.Enright
C: J.Corey C.Ling J.Selwood
HF: P.Chapman C.Mooney J.Kelly
F: S.Johnson T.Hawkins M.Stokes
R: B.Ottens J.Bartel G.Ablett
Int: M.Blake B.Prismall R.Gamble M.Rooke

However, I expect Tenace and Byrnes to be in ahead of Rooke and Prismall. I don't have much of a problem with Byrnes, he gives it a fair shot but his disposal is a problem. Don't get me started on Kane Tenace and the fact he's in the side because I won't stop.

I like that team only West for Blake, But blake will do.

The goss on realfooty.com.au says;

Josh Hunt (Geelong) ankle
Sprained ankle on Thursday night. In some doubt, but with intensive physiotherapy should be OK for round two.

It also lists Brad Ottens as a 'possible' return from an ankle injury.

"It's a bit too early to tell whether he'll play or not at this stage," Thompson said.

"Rooke played 70 per cent of the game in the reserves on the weekend and did particularly well and he's certainly a chance to play."

I think that's the team everyone wants to see, but as you stated Byrnes won't be dropped

but that's the last time i'll bring it up. got to accept and move on... :(

Seeing Essendon play today, makes me think that they're going to give us a good run on Sunday. We are severly disadvantaged without having Monica there and Tenace and Byrnes are 'speedsters,' but they don't compare to Essendon's youngsters (Davey, Houli, Dempsey, Lonergan). Even they're more experienced players seemed faster. Is there a possibility of playing Varcoe this week? I just hope we don't fade out in the second half like the Port match.

It won't be Varcoe - he hasn't done enough during the preseason. Not sure how promoting someone who's only going to get 3 possessions really helps.

The only guys who possibly deserve a spot are Prismall and Rooke (on form, in that order too). Realistically though if Rooke is fit he'll be included. I can only see Gamble or Byrnes making way, and as Thompson generally goes for experience, Gamble for Rooke.

gamble and tenace have been earmarked to play 10-12 games in the first 18 games, so as to be given game time
rooke will come in a fortnight

watch for nablett to be back by round 16

Bit early to say for sure, but given the article in the Hun that I read, it looks like they will be bringing Rooke in, probably at the expense of Tenace. Ottens is still doubtful so it might still be the young blokes.

Is that the same HUN that Feed us the Story about Carlton and Judd and how good they both were going to be in 08,and filled front page backpage and two others with pictures of Judd and Fev.....

I wouldnt even use that paper as a poo ticket :thumbsd:

So many talk about bringing in Varcoe, when he has done absolutely zero to suggest he would be good in the side. Blake had a better pre-season then Varcoe, and thats saying something.

Brynes will stay. We have been calling for his head since he became a regular about halfwya through last year, and Thompsonm has stuck by him. I imagine Bomber will continue to stick by him until someone in his current position is banging on the door. As it stands, no one really is.

If Ottens doesn't play, this is how I predict they'll select the team:

B: H.Taylor M.Scarlett D.Milburn
HB: A.Mackie T.Harley C.Enright
C: J.Corey C.Ling J.Selwood
HF: P.Chapman C.Mooney J.Kelly
F: S.Johnson T.Hawkins M.Stokes
R: M.Blake J.Bartel G.Ablett
Int: T.West S.Byrnes R.Gamble M.Rooke
EMG: J.Hunt B.Prismall K. Tenace

Gamble stays in as a forward interchange
Taylor in as a mobile, tall backman
Hunt omitted to "rest the ankle"
Rooke in for Tenace (although they might opt for speed over footballer)
Prismall... who does he replace in that midfield?

BDP cracks a stubbie open, Sits back, and waits for the Anti Shannon Crew to Roll in. ;)
