Mate, don't talk to me about guys that aren't ready, you were pushing for the selection of Jordan Silk not that long ago.

I'm not saying we pick Lehman for Adelaide, this is the side I'd like to see for the future. Lehman is the only young batsman with an average close to 50, if he keeps that up why wouldn't we pick him?

As for the openers spot, if Bancroft can make runs than great, but he's not doing it at the moment. Justin Langer wasn't an opener but he did a pretty good job, Khawaja would be well suited to opening the batting. Who knows what will ever happen with Marsh, he's either getting dropped or injured, one thing I know for sure is that he's not a long term option, although if he's available for Adelaide, I'd pick him.

That's getting close, but I'd have S. Marsh, if fit, I/s of Patterson. Sayers I/s of Faulkner.

Dunno why everyone has it in for Marsh, he's not the greatest selector but there's not a lot you can do when you don't have the cattle.

Our problems are far more system than selection.

Not really. My point is that the player that is performing taking the most wickets or runs at the lower lever isn't always the best option to pick at the highest. If they don't think they are up to it at Test level yes they can ignore their form.

How do they know whether they are up to it, if they don't give them a go. There's no point having a Sheffield Shield Comp, under your theory. Sayers deserves a shot, no doubt. Bowls no slower than Philander, swings the ball, takes wickets, easy choice really because that's what bowlers are supposed to do yeah?

He does nothing with the ball, isn't overly quick and barely moves the thing. In essence he's a terrible option. Sayers at least swings the ball, Bird at least seams it. I struggle to see how these two were not ahead of a bloke that shows very little traits to be a test bowler. I'd even rather play Boland...and that says a lot!

ODI is pretty irrelevant I agree, but you do get to see whether a bowler has International quality traits. Mennie showed very little and it is little wonder in test cricket he showed even less.

Regardless of visa complications, when there is a way there usually is. Doesn't have to be England, could be anywhere. They shouldn't be playing for 4 months and then resting for 8.

Smith isn't a 3 either, when you find a 3, the best idea is to leave him there. It is the hardest position to get stability and it's the one position we have a guy who is half reasonable. Khawaja isn't going to open. Similarly Smith shouldn't bat 3, despite how many times Chappell tells you otherwise. He's perfect at 4 or 5.

No issue with Lehmann in the future, he has the tools, just needs a good season or two.

the way our openers are going he is practically batting at 3 anyway.

TL/DR Many years ago AB made the point to a team Michael Hussey was playing that there is no way they could be physically prepared to play a first class match by only bowling and batting for short periods in training. Could be why Cummins body keeps breaking down, not prepared for long term bowling.

you just need to look at the old west indian pace attack. Those guys bowled massive amounts of overs. Mcgrath bowled 600 overs in a year in the 2000s yet they are telling us Cummins can't bowl for a full shield game lols.

As has been said Rod Marsh going does not automatically fix the problems with our batting. If we go out and score 500 in the next test it's not because Rod Marsh quit.

There are so many different suggested XI's by all posters, which just goes to show how no one clearly picks themselves apart from Warner, Smith, Starc and Hazlewood. It just goes to show how many spots are up for grabs and no one has grasped their opportunities. The signs of an underperforming and poor cricket side.
