We tried picking Marsh on potential and he wasn't up to it, he needs time at FC level. Same thing would go for Head, he's a long way behind a lot more f other guys IMO.A big no to Dean for me, before this match he couldn't buy a run.
My team: Warner, Renshaw, Khawaja, Smith, Handscome, M.Marsh/Head, Nevill, Mennie, Starc, Hazlewood, Lyon/Zampa
Reasons:
Warner for obvious reasons
Renshaw is a gun in the Alistair Cook mould
Khawaja looks like our best number 3 since Ponting
Smith: Same as Warner
Handscome: Banging the door down, deserves chace
M.Marsh: Looked like he was starting to bat well just when he got dropped, keep going imo.
Head: Bit of a potential pick, but he looks to be a test player in the future. Has had a few good FC seasons.
Nevill: Best wicketkeeper in the country, can't afford to have Wade continually drop catches. Whiteman will replace him in the future.
Mennie: Only 1 test, didn't disgrace himself, l reckon they will give him another shot.
Starc and Hazlewood: obvious reasons.
Lyon: fast losing patience with him but he is our most experienced spinner.
Zampa: Not sure, looks better in ODI when players have to attack him. Don't know who else to pick.
The difference is Head was named Sheffield Shield Player of the season last season. Played very well in England when he went over there as well. He may be behind some older layers but we can't be picking these veterans anymore as it isn't working. We tried picking Marsh on potential and he wasn't up to it, he needs time at FC level. Two centuries from Renshaw puts his name on the shortlist.
Although probably still unlikely he gets a go yet.
Scored 50 off 51 in the last innings he played, I think he has listened to you.Do not like renshaw. He needs to go at a better strike rate and play the australian way. Attack at all costs, even when we're chasing 60,000 runs with 20 overs to go.
Not good enough. Needs to go at least 300%Scored 50 off 51 in the last innings he played, I think he has listened to you.
He still only averaged mid 30's though and that's at FC level. Neither are good enough to bat top 6 just yet. The all rounder position has not worked for years. Would much prefer Handscomb and Patterson coming on at 5 and 6, not exactly veterans. The difference is Head was named Sheffield Shield Player of the season last season. Marsh/Head gives us another option with the ball.
Can't see how it hurts to be honest. Give him a taste, he'll know it's most likely just for one match.Slowly coming round to the idea of one test for renshaw, but not sure if its worth it just yet.
Yeah true. I'm all for trying to keep guys in the same batting position as much as possible which is why I'd rather Usman stay at 3 and not open. If that means Renshaw plays as the opener, sure. Can't see how it hurts to be honest. Give him a taste, he'll know it's most likely just for one match.
