Why would Mennie be dropped after 1 game?
Ferg deserves more than 1 too.

If Maddison is picked! <facepalm>

Mennie withdrew from University game yday with foot soreness. Was gonna bowl 15 overs.

Ferguson probably just needed a 30 or 40 to get another game but 5 fails in a row just at the wrong time for him. But if you wanna make it you have to score runs at the right time.

I know it's too early but Alex Carey in the middle of another useful innings batting for a draw. Like batters that have more than just 1 mode

Crazy if the selectors replace Mennie on his home track after mennie played ahead of him on bird's home track. Mind you Sayers is the one who should be playing with the pink swinging ball.

Why did Mennie get a gig over Bird, Sayers and Tremain (all of whom are in better form)? And going back to grade cricket in a bid to retain his spot? Come on man the gap between grade cricket and Test cricket is enormous. He's not good enough. Still confused about Rod Marsh's reasoning behind not selecting Bird for the last Test.

Ferguson's Shield form this season was wildly inconsistent before he even got the Test gig (scores of 101, 0, 4 and 4 back this up).

Agree on Maddinson doesn't deserve to be picked at this point in time.

I question anybody who thinks O'Keefe is up to Test cricket.
EFA.

See, we can all play that game. Alas, like Mennie if he keeps taking wickets they'll give him a go.

I definitely understand the point you're making here, and it is well-received.

It's why we'll likely never agree on it, which is okay, because it comes down to individual judgement.

Some players are able to make the jump and contribute at the next level, other's aren't. In my judgement O'Keefe can, and hasn't done badly in his limited Test appearances, but Mennie won't. No point going on a big argument about it though. :)

EDIT: The difference between the two is O'Keefe's record shits on the next best, whereas when we have all of our fast bowling options fit Mennie will be about 8th in line. O'Keefe is 2nd at worst.

That's fine. I guess when you question people about SOK and his domestic record then anyone else could do likewise for mennie.
I'm not particularly Pro-Mennie either but to be fair to him if he's dropped he could feel aggrieved. Everyone else who had their test spot in question was sent back to the shield in what I perceived as 'The Joker' style selection try outs.

Yet, Mennie wasn't afforded the same opportunity. If I was him I'd have been asking for assurances from CA and the selectors that I'd be playing in Adelaide, if not, then **** them.... I'm playing for my state this Shield round like every other test aspirant.

Mennie should 100% have been playing for SA to push his case. What weird management that was.

Looking forward to a Pete 100 on debut.

im not against this.

i reckon he's another one of those blokes who has suffered because of the "not quick enough" mentality

No, I don't think so. It's more he's been injured an inopportune times.

He's not Pattinson/Cummins fast, but he's quick enough.

On merit about 6 players deserve to be dropped.

I don't see how dropping players on merit can be seen as panicking.
It's the decisions on Mennie and Ferguson that smack of desperation. They were picked not on one big performance but their performance over years. But they may now be dropped after one bad Test. Were the selectors that wide of the mark with their initial selection? And what if Renshaw or Patterson fail to show any more in their one Test; do they go? Troubling times for Oz cricket.

Changes need to be made but we need to be wary of panicking. This smacks of panicking.
I disagree. For the first time in a while it seems as though we have a plan. The guys that are going to be dropped aren't up to it, everyone coming in have been performing well at state level. Changes are definitely needed, might as well make them all now, stick with that side and build on something for the future.

Obviously I'll most likely lose my shot if Maddinson gets a gig though.

I did say before. But I read mennie withdrew yesterday from University with foot soreness so maybe there was something to his enforced rest from the shield??? They obviously didn't want him bowling more than 15 overs.

I'm much happier for them to do that at grade level rather than withdrawing them halfway through a shield match like they did with starc

Yeah feel bad for Mennie that he wasn't even allowed to set a case for retention.
