In the unlikely event all three newcomers perform straight away in test cricket it would likely just to be seriously bad timing for Marsh and he'll go back to next in line. He's fortunate that he can bat anywhere from 1 to 6 so any injury or poor performance will see him come back in. It'll be very unlikely we've seen the last of Shaun Marsh. He's had a few shots over the years and it finally looks like he is in a position to justify those chances.

Assuming one of the newcomers doesn't perform in their first test (which is pretty likely) they might be better to give Marsh an extra 10 days anyway and get right back to full fitness for the boxing day test. It'll give the selectors a second chance to see which of the new guys have stepped up and shown they are ready, and which (if any of the three) need to improve their game. Marsh himself won't like that because he'll see it as an additional chance for them to secure their spot.
I disagree, even if all three perform, one makes way. Same thing happened with SMarsh last year, basically won the Adelaide Test, backed it up with 180 against the Windies and made way for Khawaja. The selectors favour the incumbent and if one of Renshaw or Maddinson have to make way, with some congratulations for a good score and acknowledgment that their time will come again, so be it.

Keep an eye out for a kid called Arjun Nair. A top order batsmen from ACT/NSW. Kid seems likely to be a very good player. Only 18 but showing plenty in grade cricket in NSW.

Heard some real good things about him.

Even if it's logical for S. Marsh coming straight back in regardless I can't see it happening. We aren't going to drop a 20-25 year old who performs for an injury prone 33 year old while Chappel is a selector (In the likely event they all hit a 50+ score).

Though to be fair I think he should come straight in for Maddinson regardless.

I know Chappell likes youth, but the whole process isn't going to turn upside down in a day. SMarsh was basically the only player to perform in both of his last two Tests. It's much easier to tell a 20-year-old that he was an injury replacement and that his time will come again. That said, I reckon Maddinson will be the one to may way, but it will be hard if Renshaw has even a mixed performance and Maddinson goes big.

I am literally drunk on the all the delicious salty tears from all the Neville fappers in here complaining about him being drop despite him having the worst batting record for one of our keepers in living memory.

Pete the Incomplete has proven his batting is completely unacceptable for an Australian test player and was rightfully shown the boot.

Bury that Baggy Green in the backyard Pete - you won't be needing it again :D

Wade's will be "Ooops.. sorry Nafan. Let's get the next one!"
Not sure Lyon will give him the opportunity to drop one

Also Nevill is 0 from 1 in this series off Lyon

Cause test centuries against Sri Lanka at home and the West Indies are so good. Nevill got to bat once against the Windies and made 7*..

Better than averaging 20 and hanging your hat on 60 odd in a lost cause against a 2 man pace attack.
Is it though? really? Wade is not that superior in batting. He can't grind an innings very well. Basically if he'd been there at the WACA it'd have been over earlier.

Don't even care who came in as long as the that disgrace to the Australian coat of arms was dropped.

#sobrave #shouldbathigher

Get your hand off it - unlike Pete the Incomplete he has shown at least capable of being a competitive batsmen at Test level.

Then again - you thinking it was a bad idea to drop him is categorical proof it was the correct decision.

??? his first class strike rate is 48.

If you're averaging 40 and striking at 48, you're not going out and slapping quick runs and falling over.

Handscomb was captain of Australia A and tonned up in one of those games. Of course he was on the radar. He wasn't a bolt out of the blue based on that double century. It was likely a toss up between him and Ferguson for the spot in Hobart.
Just saying that our selectors have a tendency to ignore the obvious and select the players they've been hoping would step up e.g. Maddison.

But its hard to ignore a double century during the first round in years the media are actually paying attention.

Not sure that's true. Soon after the last test I read an article that discussed possible test options for the third test. Handscomb wasn't mentioned once.

I'm assuming it was probably the Sydney Telegraph or something? They wouldn't even be able to name a single state player outside of NSW...

But if he wasn't in their minds prior to this week then maybe that's why Australia was struggling so badly, he was clearly the best batsman waiting in the wings and with a tour of India coming up, had to come in.
