How in the world is Maddinson picked in this team. What a baffling selection. Selectors picking favourites based on 'technique' again rather than form and results. A guy whose technique has averaged 37 in FC cricket, and 38 this year.

Crazy shit.

There's several batsmen that should've been picked ahead of him. So many smart selections in this revamp, and then they go and select Maddinson.

Bird should have never been dropped in the first place, not only did he take a 5 for in his last test innings he has a solid test record and was clearly the next in line this summer with siddle as his backup.

Leaving bird out at the start of the summer would have been like dumping s marsh for the start of the summer, it was just a poor desicion plain and simple.

they said they were going to take a few punts. What did Clarke average before he got picked for the tour of india?

Cannot believe they are not playing the Chadd, pick him in the 12 then don't play him on his home deck in which he has an impeccable record and an 11fa there last start. Same old muppet decisions

A query to my Australian supporting counterparts - do any of you guys still think starc has a bit to prove?

He was colossal in Sri Lanka, absolutely no doubt about it.
But save for a good burst at the start in Perth and 2 overs in Hobart he hasn't looked likely at home.

Obviously he's got all the tools, but is there a scenario in which you could see him being under any pressure in the next, say, 12 months?

Really looking forward to seeing Wadey in action at Adelaide.

Apparently from the experts that spend hours watching him in action he's now a quality keeper and we all know he's also a gun bat. So anything other than a close to flawless display behind the stumps (as is required at Test level) and a score of 50+ and I'll be very disappointed.

Ok.

Why does Cummins get a free ride into these fantasy teams all the time?

OK, he bowled amazingly on debut, and hasn't had much opportunity to screw that reputation up since - but if you take that match out, his record albeit over a small sample size, is quite ordinary.

Players with some shock value - ie fast bowlers, unusual batsmen, ultra aggressive batsmen - it isn't unheard of for them to succeed immediately but be found out. Phil Hughes was a good example.

There is absolutely nothing about Cummins that would make me want to pick him ahead of Hazelwood if the call had to be made between them.
Phil Hughes was the man in waiting for Rogers to retire, he would've slotted back into the top of the order with Warner and we wouldn't have had this hassle of Burns & Shaun Marsh.

The reality is with his injuries into a short form specialist playing 50 over and T20 matches only.

If you want a third bowler then would look at the possibility of Sayers/Bird or Faulkner if you wanted to strengthen the batting. I still can't work out how Mitch Marsh got ahead of Faulkner as the allrounder, Faulkner is better with the bat and ball than M. Marsh.

Absolutely no problems with Bird being selected. One of those "was happy with either" selections.
Neither do I, but playing Lyon ahead of Sayers leaves me flabbergasted. If Sayers had got to bowl under lights with the pink ball, he would have been damn tough to face.

What if Lyon struggles in Adelaide - would the selectors continue to play him ahead of a 4th quick in Brisbane?

Yes but you replied to my post saying Nevill has one of the worst batting records for a keeper in 20 years saying Wade's record wasn't much better.

Wade dropping 1 catch per innings is also complete hyperbole and assumes Nevill is faultless (he is not).
I didn't say that at all.

It's not exaggerated, going from the last time he spent in the test team he would either drop someone OR not go for a catch that he should have every innings or 2nd innings. Now he may have improved and l hope so.

Nevill isn't faultless but you barely noticed Nevill's wicketkeeping which is a good sign.

Didnt really mind whether it was Bird or Sayers. But why on earth are we giving the Saffers prior notice of whether it was Bird, Sayers or both? Let them waste time reviewing tapes and planning for both instead of making their job easier.

You also barely notice his batting which is a bad sign

Plus Hughes was actually an opener while Marsh and Burns have played the majority of their first class cricket in the middle order

Worked against him as well. Keeper has to have a presence, get the chirp going, get into the batsmens head.

Saffers have been at us on the lip all series in the field, and it's paid off.

I think the chirping actually does the opposite effect imo. Plenty of batsmen who have made big hundreds against us have said that the chirping that we do has actually spirred them on.
