It's been mentioned else where but I'd be tempted to run a few of the more senior players in the VFL practice match and send the kids to the alice.

yeah the vfl team do..
i dont know if youve ever been to a vfl match but these guys are some of the better rookies floating around. Blair was best on ground in probably 70% of the games he played last year and blight has some freakish talents.

So unless you know what youre talking about keep it to yourself

In that case I could write a book

IN Blight, Barham, Blair, Rounds, Dawes, Anthony, Goldsack, Thomas

OUT Ball, Presti, Swan, OBrien, Medhurst, Didak, Davis, Cloke,

Play the kids this week

Agree with Beeg ! I think i heard that Adelaide have got a few injuries,Van Berlo,Otten,Knights has done damage to his leg,Bock still not 100% and theres more can't remember all the names so yeah let's play the kids.

I agree, I'd love to see the kids get a bit more of a run in this game.

It would be nice to see a line-up like this:

B: Toovey N.Brown Wellingham

HB: McCarthy Reid Blight

C: Sidebottom Beams Davis

HF: J.Thomas Dawes Fraser

F: Medhurst Anthony Macaffer

R: Wood D.Thomas Blair

I: L.Brown Barham Goldsack Rounds Sinclair Buckley

As inexperienced as that line-up is, there is only 5 players who have not played AFL football there and 2 of them are new draftees.

I think that side would still be competitive against an undermanned Adelaide.

I don't think we need to "play the kids". The point of these matches is to get ready for round one, not to give everyone a turn like auskick.

Obviously if the players aren't fully fit then don't play them, maybe rest 1 or 2 of the older ones if they are worried about lasting the season, other than that these men are young and fit and there's no reason not to play them.

If we rest everyone we will be flat as a tack come round one and we cant afford that this year, we have a tough draw and need to get off to a good start.

I'd think the 3 squad members who missed last week (Goldy, Dawes -injuring permitting, O'Bree) along with the subs (N.Brown/Presti/J-Mac, Beamer) will all play/play greater roles.

I'd think based on Gavin Browns comments, Blair & Blight might get a game. Blight more likely then Blair as we'd like to get some midfield cohesion with Jolly, Ball etc.

Finally some sense on the subject

Sometimes I think a poster will start a thread on a subject, then one or two in the next posts will agree with it, the rest don't want to appear to be dumb so they just blindly agree without thinking about it. Then anyone who goes against the mob view is considered to be way off.

Strange really

In: Blair, Sinclair, Thomas, Dawes, Goldsack, Barham, Blight, Anthony

Out: Presti, Lockyer, L.Brown, Cloke, Didak, Johnson, Shaw, Medhurst

I see no need to take these older players halfway across the country for a practice match, they are tried and tested players would still like to see Ball and Jolly play as they need game time with other pies still getting used to our game plan. Maxwell must stay in for leadership for young kids.

If game was in Melbourne I would have halved those changes but every in is a potetial to play this year no point playing people that are really just making up numbers like Cook and Corrie.

Only want to see Sinclair and Thomas play 2 practice matches no more.

If NAB's purpose for us is i) practice new systems/structures; ii) checkout depth under AFL prssure; iii) retain positive team solidarity (including remaining relatively competitive at the final bell), then:

1. I'd leave NBrown and Reid to defend for themselves (LBrown can mother over them if trouble brews). Presti can rest. Deep end, though keep Toovey, O'Brien, Maxwell around them so that this is a 'realistic' structure to check out.

2. Continue the Wellers/Shaw HBF/wing show.

3. Cloke played well last week and probably has nothing to prove on a bumpy Alice Springs ground. Dawes, if hip is fit, to play CHF.

4. Despite age of the onball group, it could be a good bonding trip for the onball group to go on together: Jolly, Wood, Ball, O'Bree, Beams, Pendles, Swan, Dids, Davis, Sidey.

5. The main 'new structure' (and checking out of our depth) is runwiths and closer taggers, who qualify in any case to be within our best 22-25 if at all possible. We know what Johnno offers, so he can have a week's break. Sidey is a linkman and didn't look like a tagger last week. Neither did Toovey (return to cover the speedy small forwards - though Francis may be worth seeing for the last praccy game in the BP?). Buckley and JMac struggled, but may be worth another chop at such a role? Barham needs a go, and the Caffa is a lock for another try at the new tagging role.

something like:

Toovey - NBrown - O'Brien
Wellers - Reid - Maxwell
Shaw - Swan - Didak
Thomas - Dawes - Beams
Davis - LBrown - Medhurst
Jolly - Pendles - Ball
Wood, O'Bree, Sidebottom, Macaffer, Barham, Goldsack, Buckley, JMac

Out = Lockyer, Cloke, Presti, Johnson

In = O'Bree, Dawes, Goldsack, Barham

The following week hope to see back Presti, Cloke, Fraser and Anthony, plus at least Blight and Blair for a game each.

It's Nathan Buckley's first gig as coach :), we can't lose.

As for the team, don't expect too many changes. Dawes, Goldy, O'bree and Presti?beams should all come in whilst a few players may be rested. However don't underestimate how much the team will want to win this game, just to get team confidence up.

most of the posters make sense BUT I am sure this game in possible heat and humidity was not on our pre season agenda..we had a good hard hit out last Friday and most will be recovering from the hard Etihad ground...this game will be about player management and fitness not so much structures and game plans...look for the youngsters mentioned to be rotated in for this game...for interstate travel experience and anyone who needs the gametime - such as players who missed or had less gametime last week...

didnt we send the reserves to WA (geraldton?)a couple of years ago and left the seniors to play in the VFL practice match here for similar reasons?

I can't see either side sending a strong line up to alice springs it doesn't make sense to send senior players on that trip to then play on a surface that is likely to be much harder then the average ground.

So that said I can't see how, given we have our own VFL side, it wouldn't be better preparition for round one to give them a hit out on what is likely to be a better prepared ground without the travel to the alice. Even more so considering as the Crows are likely to do the same.

CORRIE!! hahaha

Corrie and Leigh Brown in our forward line, I can see Adelaide trembling with fear already.

Is something wrong with Blight? Surely can squeeze him into a 29 man squad if you can fit Corrie in there.

Yeah, Bit Worried is he Injured or there is something more happening with Blight?

Guess we won't be able to glean much from Bucks first coaching effort if we're fielding a squad like that.

That side will get smacked looking at the Crows' line-up.

Talk about a "non-existant" forward line. No Jack, Rus, Medders or Cloke available.

No Jolly/Ball/Maxy either- some quality leadership and experience.

Wellingham played quite well vs Saints and is stiff not to be playing but probably part of the rotations for all players to have a run. Ditto Lockyer.

Bucks is in for a hard night.
