We've got three obvious outs, should the replacements be ready: Oxley, Madgen, Murphy. No disrespect to those three; they've played bravely, and performed a role, but in terms of talent they're not there yet. Looking at the starting 22, they're the trio that stick out as not ready for finals footy.
Some combination of Howe, Goldsack, Moore, Appleby and Reid is likely to replace that trio. Exactly who will depend on injury and form.
The return of Treloar poses an interesting selection drama. There aren't a heap more players who deserve to fall out of the side. If he proves his fitness, we'll be forced to drop one of our mids/forwards... and that's a tough ask. Pendles, Sidebottom, Adams, De Goey, WHE, Thomas, Stephenson are all safe, beyond a doubt. Sier, Greenwood, Phillips and Varcoe are more than likely safe, based on their structural importance. So it probably comes down to Aish or Mayne. Both would be stiff to be dropped. But Treloar doesn't sit it out if he's ready to go. Maybe Mayne's knock to the leg tips it in Aish's favour?
All in all, that will leave us with a pretty strong-looking 22. Exceptional, even.
B: Maynard - Reid - Langdon
HB: Crisp - Moore - Howe
C: Treloar - Pendlebury - Phillips
HF: WHE - Mihocek - De Goey
F: Stephenson - Cox - Varcoe
Foll: Grundy - Sidebottom - Adams
Int: Thomas - Sier - Thomas - Aish
IN: Reid, Moore, Howe, Treloar
OUT: Madgen, Murphy, Oxley, Mayne
Only missing Elliott, Dunn, Schaz and maybe Wells from best 22 at that point... we can dream, right?
