Close has been been praised for neafl form the last month and kicked 3 goals on the weekend despite playing higher up the ground than hammer, ballenden and freeman. As someone pointed out in the review thread he now has less afl games than hipwood or schache. Still plenty of opportunity to develop.

In the AFL.... qualifications for playing in the VFL finals is 8 senior Afl games or less.....do u know if it is the same in the Neafl?Mayhap Josh would be better served by being set for the ressies finals.
Agree with Barrett - either Rhino or Keays.
Feet can be tricky thingsAlthough I would really like to push for Michael Close, I think it would be a smart move to go with 2 talls (Walker, Hipwood) and a medium forward. Dawson is a seriously good mark and would give us a different look, not one we've tried much this year, except perhaps when Lester has played forward. I also agree with you re Bewick. He has run really well the last 2 weeks and Gold Coast's pace really cut us up in round one and nearly cost us the game. Harwood seems more flexible than Barrett and I'd go for that change too.
Guess we'll find out about Mayes on Tuesday.
This week is a good time to start....win by 100 then there is 200 pointsWould need to pick up about 300 points on them to make up the % diff.

Must have played at least 3 NEAFL games, and if they've played 5+ senior games, then they must have played at least 9 NEAFL games. So possibly as many as 13 senior games (there about).16.2 FINALS ELIGIBILITY
(a) Any under 18 academy player/under 19 approved academy player does not have to play any Competition home and away matches to qualify.
(b) Any listed player must have played a minimum of three (3) Competition home and away Matches for the club to qualify to play in the Competition finals series.
(c) In the event a listed player has played five (5) matches or more in the AFL, he must have played at least nine (9) Competition home and away Matches to qualify to play in the Competition finals series.
(d) Notwithstanding anything within these Rules, should an AFL Club listed player not be selected to play for his AFL Club in an AFL match, that player will be eligible to play in the Competition finals series Match with the AFL Club Reserves team that same weekend, irrespective of whether or not he has played in a Competition Match that season.
(e) A primary or rookie listed AFL player is eligible to play in the Competition finals series Match where there is a bye/week off in the AFL competition provided he has not played in an AFL team

Dont have to say sorry to anyone. You are entitiled to an opinion just the same as anyone else. Josh has been named in the best now for the last 3 weeks, not just last weekend's game. I have watched him also almost all year and believe he has something to offer our list when we play a fast moving/free flowing game. Different to you but, i think his decision making is very good when carrying the ball up the ground at pace. He's kicked some good goals of late as well. His season last year was horrid but so was the teams with the style of footy they played and it obviously didnt suit Josh's game. This year is a different scenario. Early in the year he was given a tagging role on opposition key players and did a good job running with them. Now his tagging role is gone (for the moment) and he is showing us how he can play a fast/running game & i believe he's been a main contributer to the side & think he still has something to offer the club at this stage should he be given the chance.Sorry, but I don't think Josh Clayton should be anywhere near the Senior team. Even if we're just going off the game on the weekend, he has no idea what he's doing with the ball in hand. How many times did he just panic with the ball and get rid of it to no one? He didn't put his head over the ball either, and he can't kick. Not sure if people just "box score scout" and see him get a few touches, so he should get a call up. But I have seen more than enough of him in the NEAFL games I've seen to come to the opinion that he isn't an AFL player. Sorry if I'm being harsh, but he would be the last person from the ressies that I'd call up for a game.
So you are saying there is a chance.Would need to pick up about 300 points on them to make up the % diff.
I wouldn't object to getting strategic NEAFL games into those guys. A NEAFL Premiership is good for the soul and morale.Schache has played 7 NEAFL games so far this year, so if he plays the remaining NEAFL games he'll be good for finals.
Witherden is sitting on 8 games, maybe if there's a question on him this week we should name him in the NEAFL just to get that last number up. He'd be handy in a GF.
Keays is sitting on eight too, another who'd be a handy addition.
Because he's been marking everything that comes his way at NEAFL, has kicked 5 goals in a game recently and would give the forward line a different look as a medium tall and would potentially provide more pressure coming out. Also the suggestion that Close and Walker are very similar as link-up players who don't tend to kick a lot of goals. Dawson's only played one AFL game this year, he's not necessarily the same as what you've seen in the past and looks much better as a forward than down back. As others have mentioned, he does suffer with nerves, so his next chance might be next year. His form in the twos has been as good as Allison's and look what he's done. Why is everyone calling for Dawson? The only time I've seen him at AFL level he has offered next to nothing?
I agree they're similar players, but if one of them is a link-up, the other can provide the next option down the ground. We desperately need to get the ball inside 50 more and having two of them could engineer that. Close creates goals for others, it doesn't matter who kicks them as long as we kick more.Don't want Close in the seniors if we already have Walker. Close and Walker are too similar, they are both link up players that don't provide much of a scoring threat. If we want to kick a winning score, we need players who can contribute on the scoreboard, not just rely on midfielders the whole time; we need our forwards to do some work.
That's a very astute reading, and food for thought. It's nonsense to presume we are box ticking.Like Lyon,Allison and others ,Clayton has consistently worked very well according to requirements of him.In particular, his tackle count reflects the work ethic,as he has to do more to cover for a top heavy side.Dont have to say sorry to anyone. You are entitiled to an opinion just the same as anyone else. Josh has been named in the best now for the last 3 weeks, not just last weekend's game. The problem is that he doesn't mark in the games, so he wouldn't provide that bail out option. I agree it doesn't matter who kicks them but we essentially would have 2 forwards that don't kick goals in the team. Add that with Barret who doesn't kick many and that is half of our forward line that doesn't contribute to the scoreboard. We can't always rely on our midfield. As you said, l would give Dawson a go.I agree they're similar players, but if one of them is a link-up, the other can provide the next option down the ground. We desperately need to get the ball inside 50 more and having two of them could engineer that. Close creates goals for others, it doesn't matter who kicks them as long as we kick more.
Anyway, I'd be happy with either Dawson or Close in the side this week, they're both in good form.
Certainly hope we win it. But I don't think we'd be going to pains to qualify players, especially as we can only play 16 listed players against non-AFL clubs in the finals. And the first final will coincide with our last home and away game against North. Our top ups like Ballenden, Campbell Waker, Bailey Lambert are very solid, but we will be a different proposition with 16 listed players against someone like Sydney Uni, or NT.I wouldn't object to getting strategic NEAFL games into those guys. A NEAFL Premiership is good for the soul and morale.
