This new gameplan is a direct rip off of GWS, except they have a coach who can articulate how it should be done and we have a bollard moonlighting as a head coach.
All game plans take 2-3 years to perfect, tweek and get the right players to execute it.
Not sure what he’s thinking bringing it in now when he’s out the door soon !

Why did he and we ever apologise for the Ginnivan thing? He gave it out and Hinkley gave it back. There's nothing wrong with that and I actually reckon in the cold hard light of day Ginnivan himself probably enjoyed it. It was only the angriest man in the world Sicily and all of those hypocritcal Clarkson era bullies like Mitchell, Hodge and Lewis who actually had a problem with it, everyone else thought it was good theatre.

I could actually see this being a 100 point margin. Not only will we be too stupid to not sit back and stop the bleeding, our players just won't put the effort in to defend anyway.
We have just lost one of our top liners in Day and Worpel will be first game back for 5 weeks. This will be close as I'm not convinced yet we can cover Day's loss such is the importance of him. It's equal to you guys not having Butters for 4 months. Would not be at all surprised we lose this.

This is going to be absolute shit.

A whole bunch of cringetorians packing the stadium to boo JHF and go feral over this Kent Hinkley 'rivalry' as if any of our supporters care.

anyone going to this is mad.
Anyone who does go will need some serious counseling after Sunday night.
It could be bad real bad.

REally nothing in it except AFL flexing.

I admire and respect Sicily as a player, but tha'ts as far as it goes.

It’s just not a sustainable game style that allows you to compete in finals, that has been proved every year since 2016…

Low % shots on goals, to much emphasis placed on defensive forwards, opposed to kicking a winning score.

A defensive game style that only needs to be broken a few times and pressure mounts.

Yep, bang on. It works against teams we can simply outclass, but there are always a few teams with a good enough defensive setup to take intercept marks anyway, or to burst out of defence through our press with elite running defenders, at least enough times to outscore us when we have no plan to score beyond volume I50s.

I think a part of the issue this year is the shock of not having Dixon up there after a decade. You can see we revert to hospital balling it inside 50 when under pressure, and that's due to years of conditioning. Other teams could switch up their game plan more quickly, but we have a dumb coach who doesn't really understand what the Hawks, Magpies or other small ball sides are doing or why it works.

Dixon and the game plan set around him gets rubbished all the time but was it actually that bad in hindsight? Genuine question.

He was physically cooked and had to retire but he still had played some pretty good games for us, he was particularly strong for us in 2017, 2020 and 2021.

Dixon was a great forward. We just destroyed his body by kicking 30 hospital balls to him a game for a decade. He also had his highest ever average goals per game while playing for the Suns.

I maintain that had he gone to any other club or stayed at Gold Coast, he'd have kicked a minimum of 100 extra career goals. Probably closer to 200.

The high ball to Dixon to bring the ball to ground gameplan worked against bad sides and fell over against an organised defence who could rebound well.

The "bomb it to Dixon" game plan and "bring the ball to ground" became a thing because he was so poor on the lead by running under the ball and missed timing along with concrete hands. Then poor vision issues became an "excuse" too. In my eyes he was average and way overrated.

Had a bit of time today, and in the area so I thought I might wander down to see if the lads were on the track.

Miles Bergman walking laps alongside Lukosious. Looks like a non-starter
Even Burton, BZT and Tommy A were doing sideline sprint work

Fairly intense match sim, coaches intensively training the backline to guard the hole where Hawthorn forwards lead into. Ginnivan mentioned A LOT!!

Whitlock took a couple of contested grabs opposed to Aliir, moves well and can hold his own in a grapple.

Cochran training with the B team. So was Mead, but could be a numbers thing.

It is Carr's game plan - and it makes perfect sense to be bringing it in now given the handover that will occur.

You guys have a clear and consistent system and method of defending and moving the footy

We have some sort of weird handball thing that looks straight out of the Ammo’s that more than makes up for Day being out just means it might take until the end of 1st quarter for you to dispose of us

I don't actually agree, I think he was fine at leading and marking when playing at Gold Coast.

I think the stagnancy was intentional because Hinkley got burned hard by intercept markers in 2015 and high balls to Dixon aren't likely to be intercept marked.

I saw Dixon as one of the young up and coming superstars of the competition at Gold Coast and it was a huge recruiting boon to get him when we'd blundered so much key forward development. I can't blame him for not succeeding under Hinkley's system. It's not built to make life easy for forwards, key forwards especially. The gameplan was designed around kicking a high ball to Dixon who would hopefully have 2-3 defenders on him. It's impossible for him to be successful in that system.

He may have underperformed from our initial expectations of him when he came to us, but he still finished his career with 221 games, 357 goals and 868 marks.

His 2017 season was very good. He took 149 marks that year, so i think he was pretty good at marking the ball and agree that it was an intentional plan and not because he didn't know how to lead and mark.
