Why was round 1 2023 a fluke?That round 1 fluke a couple years back.
Theyve won 7 of the last 8, and those wins have either been through blistering patches we couldn't stop, or absolute spankings.
Average margin of 41 points.
Across a period we have finished top 4, 4 times.
Brisbane are absolutely our bogey side, they match up well on us and have the weapons to handle us with ease. They are significantly better stacked with talent than us, and when they get going, we will drop our bundle again. As we have in the last 2 outings, 48 and 79 point thrashings.
This will be ugly. Anyone thinking otherwise is kidding themselves.

taking the Mickey now surely.Absolutely. Hope it’s Boak. Although Boak was pretty good against Carlton, his lack of speed on the wings against the likes of Fletcher will be noticeable against Brisbane and we can ill afford Prelim-like turnovers. Let’s see if Jackson can elevate his game in the Gabba cauldron.I reckon the sub is either gonna be Boak or Jackson.
Interested to see Visentini forward again, although probably get Andrews if that’s the case. The notion of Visentini taking 3-4 marks forward of centre with arms outstretched and then taking 8-10 per quarter min of ruck against Sam Day is appealing. Let’s see how it plays out. Some good ins there.
Lukosius is exciting. I'm not expecting a lot from his first game but hopefully he shows signs of what he can do.
Wines back. For his faults, he also gets 30 possies and tops out our contested possessions as well. 4th banana in the midfield. Doesn't have to ruck.
I'm not a fan of the two rucks but we don't have an obvious 2nd ruck, KPF type like Dixon.
Liddy and Evans out seems right.
I'd like to see Boak out but he's joined at the hip with Hinkley. I'd much prefer Lorenz or a young guy.
Hugh Jackson rightfully holds on to a spot after a big first quarter last week.
Pretty good.
I was thinking the exact same thing, that I was a bit excited to see Dante do a really good impression of Brendon Lade in the forward line.Interested to see Visentini forward again, although probably get Andrews if that’s the case. Harris Andrews will play up to 20m off Visentini - standing 20m out from goal - knowing Vis can’t kick straight Andrews will take more risk and let him go a bit. Andrews will attempt to get to every ball kicked inside 50, getting over Georgi/Luko.Interested to see Visentini forward again, although probably get Andrews if that’s the case. We got lucky on a 3rd quarter rampage. Round 1 throws up random results and inconsistencies and we were lucky to capitalise on that. History and the obvious trend against the Lions shows we don't match up on them at all well. 7 of 8, with an average losing margin of 41 says it all, and we're particularly bad at the GABBA.Why was round 1 2023 a fluke?
We smashed them that game, and played extremely well as a team, one of our best home and away performances.
It didn’t seem like a flukey win to me
Would've played a few weeks back if he kicked 3.1 instead of 1.3
Don’t like the two rucks. Purely because Sweet offers nothing around the ground and becomes a liability when the ball isn’t being tossed in the air. Just play Vis in ruck with Luko and Georgiades forward. Sam Day is their backup ruck, wines can easily go head 2 head with him.
He's very quick which we need. Just needs to stop missing so many chances and be a bit cleaner. He is a good list upgrade on McEntee.
If we go in with only one, and he goes down injured, who rucks the game out? Esava? A horrific thought.Agree. Vis had a solid game as a key forward last week despite his goalkicking, but most of the time the output of Vis and Sweet together is roughly the same as either one of them alone.
Worked ok with Vis as the fwd.. but with Luko back this week, will be interesting to see how it works..Not a fan of sweet and vis playing together, but oh well, whatever i dont really care until next year
Yup - particularly as Drew is not getting those tagging roles anymore, and isn't really winning much ball either. With Bergman's move in the centre, Drew's position is very much vulnerable
This mob have bullied us for near on a decade
be a nice time to make a stand and play some hard footy for 4 quarters and win.
this is an important game to maybe get our season somewhat back on track, so I'm expecting the normal no-show and a blowout brissy win.
