Boak has been pretty good this year I think. Far from our worst.
Yup, a bit of confirmation bias going on when ppl see him make mistakes.

They see the fumbles but miss the 95 other good things he does - and most importantly at the moment with this team, his ability to actually run out the game.

Thats the biggest thing, our fitness still looks a fair way off with only a few players seeming to look like they're running well in the second half and late into quarters. Boak is definitely one of them.

Think of it like this - do Cochrane or Berry give us 60-70% of the DBJ output currently? And has either shown the potential to get to >100% of his output? Then how likely is it DBJ at 30 years old this year is in our next premiership tilt v the other two?

The same logic applies to Boak with respect to Moraes / Burgoyne.

We’ve basically got a free hit season to learn something about the list and to hopefully fast track some development for guys that will be around when our top end is at their absolute peak.
I didn't realise we are in a full scale rebuild - because what you're describing is what you'd do in that situation.

Young players need to earn their spot in the team, and until their output is closer to 80/90% of the incumbent, they will be limited to sporadic opportunities - to give them a taste and show them the levels that are required etc.

DBJ is a lock.

I remember one of the mistakes where he was hit up in the corridor, but it was actually the kick that was poor and went over his head. I can't remember who it was, i think it may have been Farrell, but i was scratching my head wondering why it was a kick because Boak was no more than 10 metres away and would've been less margin for error and quicker ball movement if it was handballed to him.

^^

Smacks of lazy coaching to me

Worked once so lock it in forever

That went well for Finny in defence / Rat up forward etc. etc.

Better off keeping it as an option not a guarantee
I disagree with this. I think if something works once it is important to try it again to see if it is something that can work more regularly.

That one was all Farrell's fault. Boak was free in the middle for ages, Faz was looking longer, by the time he decided boak was the right option he was 10m away and kicked it well over his head.

Boaky did fumble a regulation over head mark on members wing, but it didn't cost us at all. Think he was able to simply pick it up and away we went. Actually that happened alot in the first half Sunday we still made some inexcusable errors under no pressure but this time none of them cost us at all, was definitely our night (or at least in the first half).

Yeah I remember that - think Farrell was about to launch long and saw Boak late and got caught in two minds maybe.

Not a change directly related to the side but given how there is so much emphasis on stats these days by Champion Data or whoever, its about time a stat was introduced to show umpire assisted goals. Cost Port about 7 goals worth of percentage points last week and could be used as a useful tool for the AFL to review its umpiring panel on a week by week basis or to identify particular biases amongst umpires with appropriate remedy.

Bergman named on the field is normally a good sign.

One of Cochrane or Berry will likely drop out. I wonder if Berry needs a run in the Magpies.

Berry has struggled in just about every appearance.
Needs to find some form in the Magpies.
I believe they played him early to justify his high draft position.
