Most seem to agree that the AFC is one, if not the best, club for developing young players.
What I don't understand is why, some of the people above, criticise the club when they drop a Fogarty or don't play a Gallucci?
Isn't the "not selecting", a part of developing players correctly? If, playing every promising recruit in the seniors full time, was the best way to develop players, wouldn't Carlton and Melbourne etc.. be very good at developing players?
Maybe the AFC would be a much better player developer if they listened to some of our bipolar supporters.

I think McGovern could be a gun defender. However, you would be crazy to move him given having a gun call forward always outranks the defender.

He needs to start hitting the scoreboard.
He could become that floating "Lever" type defender but he's also a very difficult match up for a defender.

I'd have sent him to the SANFL for form

Has to be played midfield SANFL to get his tank up ......playing as a fwd a complete waste of time in SANFL
You don't build a tank playing games. you do that on the training track.
For the Fog to get a tank capable of playing AFL midfield in 2019, he needs to train hard all year that will mean playing SANFL and AFL in the Forward Line for most of the year with the odd short run in the middle.

Actually as long as he's doing the defensive work, he is fine. After all that is what keeps McGovern in permanent marker in our side.

The offensive game will come, as eventually he'll work through this form slump, but that is not what defines his importance to our side right now.

I'm thinking McGovern bounces back with the inclusion of Lynch . Is surely eager to perform and get's a weaker defender now.

Murphy been very ordinary tonight. Maybe they went the wrong way at selection and should of kept Fogarty in, Murphy out.

So if we play Fogarty we lose? And herein lies a big part of the problem with the Afc's mentality over the last 2 decades. We would rather player mediocre 2nd/3rd tier players than give a relatively unknown kid a game. This strategy has got us nowhere yet we perist with it because it's the safe option.

If we were a strong club no way do Reilly, Doughty, Mackey, vb play more than 150 games.
I dont disagree with the sentiment . But Lynch is not a2nd or 3rd tier player.

You really don't get the idea of team balance do you?

Plus Murphy played a good game.

Murphy out and lynch in wouldn’t affect team balance . No more than Fogarty out lynch in. And 12 disposals is hardly a good game when we dominated and won by 49. I dare say Fogarty would have had more impact than that.

I will say with confidence Murphy will be getting the week off next week. Bookmark this post if you want. Come back and we can talk about it either way it goes.

One is a small forward that's main job is defensive pressure. One is a tall linking forward. They're completely separate positions and are not interchangeable at all.

Next your going to say that Jarman could have done Jacobs job in the ruck.

Or you could look at it like fogarty and Murphy are both kids that will be rested throughout the year and Murphy didn't do much of anything tonight, and maybe he needed the rest just as much if not more than fogarty this week.

Next you will be claiming Murphy played as well as jarman.

I disagree. Murphy played well without reward, which was backed up by 12 disposals/6 tackles being in the good game territory as a small forward.

Only thing that hurt him was missing that goal. Rest is exactly what we want.

You don't think fogarty could have provided that level of output playing as a forward ?

No, because Fogarty isn't a small forward.

He is something completely different.
