Have you? Has Obeanie1?
Like I just said, and said yesterday, it's fair enough if he needs a rest but it's ridiculous to say he needs a rest when he hasn't shown any signs of needing one, just for the sake of giving him one. If you read any further you would see that I also pointed out 3 first year players from last year who had played most games last year, as a way of showing that not all first year players need a rest to get through the season.

You are basing this off seeing him once on TV every week for 2 and a bit hours. You don't have personal contact with him on a day to day basis so you have zero idea if he is sore, injured or tired.

Heck we only found out today Rosa was injured and going off the game on the weekend everyone assumed he was good to go.

Not every first year players is the same and can get through a season without a break. So excuse me if I take the word of the people who spend day to day with him over the "expert" analysis of an armchair viewer who wouldnt have a clue about his current status.

It's got nothing to do if he's good enough, it's smartly managing a long term prospect in his rookie year who played every game in the pre-season and the first 4 rounds as well.

To be fair I think he was criticising people who were saying Nelson needed a rest earlier in the week, not saying that he doesn't need one now despite the MC's decision.

Though I'm not sure anyone said anything more than "Nelson might need a rest". Which it turns out he does.

Clear as mud :)
Criticising people because they were actually right by saying Nelson needs a rest and it turns out he does and is rested certainly doesn't need defending from you.
Clearly his comment's are utter nonsense.

If you actually bothered to read the thread before jumping in, you would have seen that this conversation actually started yesterday before the teams were named.

FFS I'm not arguing whether he needs a rest or not, try using your comprehension skills. This discussion started yesterday before the teams were named when someone posted in their lineup changes that they wanted Nelson rested.

Try starting on page 9, you'll see I wasn't the only one questioning it, unless you think Thorne89's comments are also utter nonsense

You just said a few posts up that it didn't look to you like he needed one and that he would play if he was good enough. My comprehension works fine, your short term memory on what you posted needs some work though.

He's depth. Something it turns out we desperately need this year, as much as some want us to play a team of under-23s. Or best case scenario we de-Carlton him and he becomes best 22, similar to Bennell (who should be best 22 in my view but the match committee seems to prefer Butler).

Calling McSpuddity depth is a real stretch I reckon. It's a generous comment indeed.
All I would call McGinnity is a list clogger and salary cap filler. You know, we have to pay a minimum each year and he helps us achieve that.
But otherwise he isn't going to help the team in any way except fill the quota.
An out of form Kane Lucas would offer more.

No, it doesn't. Did you bother going back reading further like I suggested? Because if you did you'll find that my initial comments were from yesterday before the teams were named, and I then referenced that Lewis Taylor, James Aish and Luke McDonald, all first year players from last year had played all or nearly all their games. By good enough I meant not dropped from the team because they weren't up to it, rather than dropped to be rested, as in "Many first year players can play all of their games if they are good enough (to not be dropped for form), they don't necessarily need to be rested."

Hmmm

Lycett deserved to be dropped, he's been poor. Get him back soon tho, cause he is twice the player Sinclair is.

However I don't understand why Lycett is held to that standard and then guys like masten get a free pass. That's not right.

I just don't see how they could play Duggan as the sub, surely not... The people running our footy club can't be that stupid can they?

On a whole, I just feel like our mc are gutless. No wonder masten doesn't get dropped.

Haha, we were talking about Lucas

So nelson actually was rested.. that's classic
Personally don't think he needed a rest but the rigours of AFL and him being so young would tend to suggest they are managing his contribution. It s a big step up from WAFL to AFL. They obviously don't want to risk another injury given that our injury list is long.

Yep, and he helps us win games how? He's going to be a duplicate of the Cale Morton pickup, in other words a complete waste of our time and a list spot.
How am I supposed to know who we've missed out on, I'm not going to scour the lower leagues looking for players, that's what our recruitment team should be doing. Dare say there are quite a few going around in the state leagues now though who would offer more than Lucas both this season and in the future.
I'd start with Kyal Horsley. And that was without too much thinking. ;)

Sorry, can McGinnity playing a negating role on someone? I thought he was only capable of playing a negating role on himself, he is rubbish offensively and defensively, cant believe this guy is still getting a game, wake up Eagles, Blind Freddy can see this is not helping our list going fwd...

I didn't say he can, I said that Simpson may be looking for him to play a negating role. If that is the reasoning for McGinnity getting a game over Colledge, than I am willing to accept the decision. Whether it pays off or not is another thing.

Why didn't he get much of a go at GC? I remember he was in and out of the team a couple of times, but can't remember what happened after that.
Must have told someone to get nicked or something, I reckon. They certainly could have used him this year.

I actually think Horsley's problem was that he is a footballer, heaven forbid, not an athlete. I could see him slotting into someone like the Hawks very easily.

And better than the reigning Brownlow Medalist ;)

As Godfather pointed out, we were talking about Lucas.

McGinnity back in... good lord , what the hell are the MC smoking.

Rest of changes are understandable. Lycett has been disappointing so far this year. Was expecting big things from him this year. Hopefully he can go back to the WAFL and get some confidence back and get back in the team and dominate. Bringing in Sinclair makes sense. I would of given Lycett one more week but I can see why they made the change.

If Nelson needs to be given a rest Bennell coming in is a logical choice. Would of loved to see Nelson go around again but he might just need a freshen up. Gotta think Long term on that one.

But McGinnity... wtf?? What did he do in the WAFL last week to earn a recall after one week?? What is he going to bring to the team? Another massive 6 disposal game and not stopping his man, the reason he is in the team. But oh he tries hard. Surely Hutchings coming in even as the sub would make more sense. The sooner McSpudity is gone the better.

And surely they aren't dumb enough to play Duggan as the sub again? Yes I can see the benefits of a softly, softly approach. But 4 weeks in a row?
