Changes Round 5

Out: Thursfield, Astbury, Edwards, Nahas
In: Rance, McGuane, Webberley, Helbig (Nahas to sub)

Rance and McGuane to return. Astbury looks like he needs some confidence back, I toyed with the idea of pushing him forward at Millers expense. But overall I see him as making a very good CHB he just has the second yr blues at the moment. So I'd rather see him playing CHB at coburg for a few weeks.

In the real world grimes is most likely to be dropped but in his two games he's had big jobs and I'd like to see how he goes without the pressure of taking one of the best talls and against weaker opposition. He could make a very useful third tall.

Edwards has been very poor for a few games now. Webberley to the half back flank and Conca to take Edwards role. Titch really needs to lift or soon he'll be playing for his career.

Nahas and Helbig to swop from sub to on the ground and vice versa.

Mick Malthouse:

"Take nothing away from either end, but it starts and finishes where the ball is, and that's a stoppage, centre bounce or whatever," Malthouse said.
"They slaughtered us as far as hitouts go for most of the night. We had to play a different role at the stoppages, but when they controlled it they scored.

Clueless Twits:

Get rid of Graham, he played a shocker

 :o

Stats lie. Even when he wins the hitouts it more often or not goes to their advantage.
2 goals against can be put down directly to him. A stupid free in front of goals and not chasing Brown to the goalsquare.

I agree he wasn't the worst on the night but if he is our number 1 Ruckman in the future then we are in deep sh#t!

Will be interesting to see how Derickx goes at Coburg.

That's because Collingwood's mids starting roving to his rucking rather than Wood's very early in the game due to his dominance. They read the ball better than our mids and sharked it too often early. Graham still had a ton of hitouts to our advantage.

There were two free kicks he gave away in the 1st quarter which led to goals, he gave us far more. It's beyond harsh to criticise a ruckman who has played so long in the ruck for not chasing down the opposition's fresh 2nd ruckman.

Only the 2 changes for me

Out: Edwards Thursfield Helbig
In: Dea McGuane Webberley/Nason

I'd possibly make a 3rd if they were going to play Helbig as the sub again, would much rather see him get a full game so either play him in the starting 21 or send him back to Coburg and bring in another runner.

B: Newman McGuane Grimes
HB: Deledio Astbury Batchelor
C: Cotchin Martin Conca
HF: Grigg Miller White
F: King Riewoldt Vickery
R: Graham Jackson Foley
I/C: Houli Dea Helbig
Sub: Nahas

On Notice:
Graham - yes he won a heap of hitouts last night, which he should against Wood and L.Brown, but his lack of physical pressure was unforgivable. Needs to address this soon as a big man who doesn't put body pressure on his opponents is useless.
Grigg - got it 30 times and provided plenty of link up running, but his lack of accountability early on hurt as he allowed Thomas to have 3 shots in the first quarter which set the tone. Can't afford to have downhill skiers.
Nahas - plenty of defensive pressure in the first 3 weeks but lacked it last night and we simply can't afford to be carrying him if he isn't doing it.

OUT: Edwards, Miller, Astbury, Grimes, Houli, Helbig
IN: Nason, Post, McGuane, Rance, Tuck, Morton

Edwards OUT for Nason IN is obvious. Nason plays Edwards role so much better - at least at the moment.

Miller OUT for Post IN. Don't care how bad Post is playing at Coburg to be honest but if you stick the guy at Full Forward where he should be played and not some half back flank shit like he is at Coburg, then at least he's learning. If he's no good, we won't die wondering.

Agree Edwards out, Nason in.

But that second one, Post at FF.

Yeah, right, let's shunt Jack back to the back pocket, or subbing duties.

We have a FF and a damn f****** good one!!

FWIW..Miller was actually pretty good last night and offers a contest. Keep him in!

Edwards out for Nason, has to be done.
Grimes out for McGuane

Thursty is a good stopper and we need someone like that, but if Rance can stop goals and also provide the run that he does then i'll be happy to see him back in the team at the expense of thursty.

Leave Astbury in, With some help of better backman he'll get some confidence back.

Graham was great in my eyes last night, he played over 90% of the game on the field and doesn't stop running, did a few good things and will only get better as he builds on his fitness. Would be much harder for ruckman this year with the sub taking the spot of another ruckman/tall

OUT: EDWARDS, THURSTY, GRIMES, ASTBURY

IN: RANCE, MCGUANE, TUCK, MORTON

DELIST: EDWARDS

wtf was with that kick by him? Wtf is wrong with his kicking?? by far the worst player on our list atm.

And that is entirely Graham's fault? Why aren't our boys getting to the fall of the footy? Why are Collingwood players reading our ruckman's taps better than our own blokes?

I thought Graham was fine. Yes he got outrun to the goal square but Leigh Brown is clearly a better ground runner than graham so it's hard blame Graham for not keeping up. The kick was perfect and there was nothing Graham could do. I was more upset with the defender (Thursty) who was drawn out the fall of the ball because he was too worried about his own man who saw Brown coming and simply baited Thursty away from the footy as if Thursty was actually watching the ball he could have easily spoiled it.

Graham also got a free in front of goal and nailed it so you can consider the effect of himself making an error (heaven forbid a ruckman getting done for a free in a contest! ), zero.

Edwards out. Should have been dropped last week. I'd like to Nason come in. At least he will cover some territory.
McGuane comes in for Thursfield or Grimes.
Tuck needs to play. He comes in for Helbig, who needs a few full games at Coburg before coming back in.

I haven't watched a lot of the tigers lately.
I enjoyed your effort last night and was hoping the run on that happened in the 3rd quarter would continue.

But every time the ball went near Edwards I cringed. It's like he has no clue when he gets the ball.

I think the contested style of footy is too hot for him.
He is a turnover king.

100% :thumbsu:

This new bench/sub rule means your ruck now has to do more when he isn't rucking. Gus gets lost and effectively has us with only 17 out there when the ruck contest is over. Very disappointed in Gus results this far in 11:(

Next week

OUT: Edwards, Gus
IN: Kid who can kick and plays well enough at burgs, Post

Post into the ruck, hell he can at least cover the ground after our mids win the contested pill from the opposition ruck tap.

Mcguane can wait another week as thursty, grimes and astbury all did okay last night. It was the 14 goal kickers that killed us not just the three forwards these blokes played on.

Give miller a few weeks until griff is available and allow him a chance to settle in.

Moore, not sure how far away he is but surely a half in the VFL is needed before he comes back in?

OUT
Astbury - like the kid, part of the future, but go back and have a rest son and come back in a couple of weeks with some confidence
Edwards - really really sad to watch his game. Disposal in this game was as bad as I've ever seen a Richmond player kick.

IN
Rance - straight into the defence, looked good early
Nason - offers run and carry, was good last year, still young and inexperienced lets see what he can do this year.

You would bring Rance in before McGuane?

I sort of agree with Tug..... I would actually bring in Tuck for Edwards, McGuane for Grimes/Thursty and Nason for Nahas.

Out:
Edwards (What happened to you titch?)
Nahas
Helbig (You've done well boy, you've shown us some signs, now go have a rest)
Grimes/Astbury

In:
Tuck (Please, Please, Please, Please, Please
Nason
McGuane/Gourdis

None of Thursty, Astbury or Grimes deserve to be dropped. Nahas and Edwards should make way though. I don't think both Mcguane and Rance will come straight in. Rance might a run at Coburg. I'd say Mcguane and Nason in
