could easily play Colyer Serong and Frederick as a high half forward. they’ve moved Bewley there a few times when he’s not been touching it much either.

Blakely gives more exp around the ball or even a chop out at half back.

can’t tell me that exp isn’t needed the eagles midfield.
Colyer is already playing high half forward, you have more than one. Serong is an inside mid on highly limited game and Fredricks is an outside mid playing his first game. Face it mate Banfield is only coming out for a genuine forward (defensive or otherwise).

What position does Frederick play? I was under the impression it was wing/half foward.

Does that mean players like Cerra, Acres, Aish get more time in the centre or is it that someone like Banfield tags?
Yeah. It may be that Frederick goes to the wing and Acres goes to the middle.

Starting to think Blakely must have shagged JLos wife at this stage
Longmuir does deserve some scrutiny about the decision. A new coach normally gives players a clean slate. I assume that Longmuir has not seen what he wants to see from Blakeley, but given the lack of a wafl competition it is a surprising non-selection, at least on the surface.

I don't know. I reckon we overrate experience.

What you need are players doing good football things. If that comes from a mid-career player, great. If it comes from a rookie, great. Just gifting guys games because they have experience is what got us into this mess in the first place.

yeah that’s a fair point. And Most of the time I would agree, but this is the week exp is needed imo. Although not knowing anything behind closed doors, would be nice to get some information as to why Blakely is missing.

He is keeping Sturt's spot warm. The faster, equally defensive, more offensive medium forward

A bit of height and a hit of speed. Probably just what a lot of punters have been looking for.

You know the worst thing about Blakely not getting a game? He's contracted until 2022. Whatever he needs to do, he needs to start doing ASAP. We can't afford someone clogging the list for 2-and-half years.

I’d say he’s already done a deal with another club and our club knows about it.

Yeah. It may be that Frederick goes to the wing and Acres goes to the middle.
I reckon not. Acres stays on the Wing, Fredrick takes the time playing as an outside midfielder that Cerra (in particular), Brayshaw and Tucker would have done while they were sharing midfield minutes with both of Mundy and Fyfe. The week before with no Fyfe it was Young that got those wing minutes.

none of what you said is a valid point to keep Banfield in. Serong having flexibility to go forward is an asset.
if Acres goes inside mid, the wing is free. I don’t see Frederick playing long minutes on the wing game 1. He will play half forward more.

now if Banfield goes and tags Shuey or Gaff or someone, that’s diff & I’d be on board.

anyways, said my piece. Would just be nice to know why Blakely is missing

Serious question what does Banfield add.
Not much to be honest. Love Banners committment and attack, but besides providing good pressure, he is very, very easily replaceable. We need to replace him and Coyler with Henry and Sturt.

"Connor Blakely played a half. "

Not exactly a glowing endorsement from the last scratchie

Walters got more of a mention and he was on the sidelines

Banfield is there as a target. He’s fit, can run and apart from lack of goal kicking, can be okay at times.
Rather then comment on why Blakely isn’t playing, why isn’t McCarthy for example taking Banfield’s spot.
He’s the exact swap, better field kicking and can kick goals. What’s the deal there also?

Wasn't there an article out last year that Blakely was rumored to have requested a trade? If true its possible they're investing their energy into developing Brayshaw, Cerra, Tucker and Serong.

Looks like he comes in for injuries.

It will take a little bit for Cam to adjust to the medication if I understand it.

Not surprised with Blakely being left out. J-Lo has had ample opportunity to pick him and hasn't. Then Acres walks back into the team with barely any match practice. I think he is only going to be picked as a last resort to cover a huge injury toll in the midfield (e.g. Fyfe + Mundy + Brayshaw + Cerra all injured).

He only played a half as he was held over for the AFL game.

Pretty sure JL said in preseason that Cam is no longer in contention for forward spots and if he is to make it, it will be on the wing.

That’s silly. He’s a medium forward, and a good one at that. He doesn’t have the tank for wing, nor the durability and toughness. Banfield is a forward yet McCarthy isn’t?
Reverse the roles and that’s spot on.

I’m not disputing this but it is strange given he also said on numerous occasions that he wants to have his players playing in the position that they were playing when drafted.

Glad to see Frederick get a run.

Now's Acres' time to shine. I hope he gets a run on the ball to offer a big body and put Frederick on the wing.

Yeah I agree but I am guessing Cam is on last chance saloon and that is as a wing. Sad because he has so much talent.

Frederick is playing half forward.

It is odd he hasn't seen midfield time. I do remember that he started in the midfield in JLT1 and that was with a full strength midfield to pick from. But he hasn't even come close to selection since.
