first of all as in the other thread need to blood youngsters

2nd Then need to learn defense.. I have seen it for ages.. Geelong are terrible to defend the opposition. Unless we are told to tackle we don't do it.. How easy it was for Saints and Pies to score this finals is testament to our lack of.. tackle and pressure. How many half efforts have you seen to tackle?

So many times this year other teams would run it out of there half back and kick a goal with no resistance.

Respect to Malthouse. I always though Cats should have evolved like pies have. Tweak the plan and get the best parts of other teams plans and find out what work well for us and implant them. Pies defend like hell when they don't have the ball the pressure well and get numbers there. Then when they get the ball the play our style and move the ball fast to the fwd 50.

3rd. We struggled alot to get it into our fwd 50 against good defending sides... multiple times this year we went 10-15 or 20 mins without a goal or whole half's like saints round 14.. Need to work on space for the lead and delivery onto the chest of forwards.. not bombing it in for easy spoilers or worse bombing over the head over the forwards coz they are always going to finish last.

4th. Needs the change of attitude. Yup sick of the "back our boys" line... Need to respect other teams and plan on beating them rather then just show up and expect to win. Over reliance on our best players to do all the work is why we have slipped. Scarlett ablett bartell and selwood aren't the only players for geelong you know...

My 10 cents... :p

Re: Changes to the plan. (not a plan b)

SMH quote -"Mark Thompson hinted after Friday night's humiliation at a similar malaise among his players. Acknowledging that change to the game plan had been required this year, the coach said: ''We probably knew that at the start of the year, but we just haven't had the total buy-in from the playing group … We tried to drill into the players that we wanted to maybe kick the ball a bit more. It never worked. We maybe never coached it well enough.''

This from the wonder Coach. He 'probably' knew it, we knew it, why didn't he, that is what he is paid big bucks to do. What B*****y b******t from him.
He is the Coach , either he can change them and the game plan or get out.
How dare he blame the players. Again.
Time he spent his working time on the club not on other interests.
Time for careers to be on the line, including his.

listen to what he said

the players have been successful playing one style
it is hard to change a style, and often takes 2 pre-seasons

he has personal interests so too does costa, blame, cook

Re: Changes to the plan. (not a plan b)

Two seasons to change a style of plan. You are kidding. Every game there is a different plan and style depending on who you are playing, every year teams have to evolve as the game evolves. The players learn and do new things every week, every year.
This is not a group of under 8's, these are professional footballers who take direction, and perhaps have input, from their Coach.
No, this is The Coach blaming the players for the loss, taking no responsibility himself. But then for him it is "just a job' ,isn't it.
Not sure what your comment about blaming Cook is. The Club President and Board Members will have other interests as the role is not paid. For those who are paid eg the CEO and the Coach, they should be working full time on that.

But how hard it it to adopt and Tackle your opponent, shepard and man up? How many times where Collingwood players swarming the ball? Where were the Cats players playing on these pies players? Why couldn't we interchange as much as them to preserve our older players so they can go harder in the game?

This is what I ment with the attitude. Players and coach etc need to respect other teams as we have been respected for 4 years now. Yes is has worked and I'm definately not knocking what we have achieved. But that's like Ferrari not bringing out a better newer model.

It will not be easy to get back to where we just where. So I would have liked some thought into the future of how we can take what we have to the next level.

We where told they learnt from round 19 and our loss to Saints in H&A season. What exactly did they learn?

The game evolves and unless you embrace change it will pass you by.
Malthouse has taken pressure to a new level and used the interchange to prolong it during the game. I recall them being the laughing stock earlier in the year for changing 3-4 at once........but who is laughing now?
We just trusted our style and players one year too long - our line up was essentially the same as 2009 except for Pods and Stokes for Rooke and Blake.
Collingwood had several tried and trusted out of the team in favour of youth , if only we had done the same with the likes of T Hunt, Menzel and Duncan - who knows if we had blooded them properly during the season where it could have led?
Insanity is doing things the same and expecting a different result - after defeats by Saints and Pies this year we desperately needed the ability to employ a different tactic when the heat was on........if the players refused to look at playing differently then the tail is defenitely wagging the dog !!
