What he did in the last quarter last week helped us get close enough to chance a win so he's probably taken his chance.

Game goes for four quarters but.

So after 1 bad loss it is "the team hasn't gelled all year", after 15m of the best football we've produced vs hawthorn, an exciting attacking goal for goal game vs North, and an unfortunate loss vs Freo away, closest anyone has gotten to them this year?

Riiiight.

What we have and do works when it works and works bloody well. It's not flawless or fool proof but what is?

Injury to Wines and Lobbe aside, the lineup in our first choice players has been consistent. That's why the focus has shifted from the players to the coaching.

2 bad losses and at least 15 average quarters.

Not all doom and gloom but not rosie either.

We must make top 4 to be a flag chance.

Not taking opportunities like the west coast game does nothing to help this.

Personally i think we'll be on fire after the bye but i hope its not too late for top 4 as there are many other talented teams as well as average ones that have fixture advantages that will make it hard.

The issue here is the rewarding of mediocre form over Ah Chee who hadn't put a foot wrong in the opportunities given to him.
I totally agree....I hate to be negative nancy again but the committee are again making selections that don't make sense...to me it was either Impey or OShea(ignoring his mediocre form)...That would have given us the required defensive coverage..How do you then make the judgement that AChee is dropped on the basis that he needs a full game when an AFL spot is available..Arch now cannot get into the side with Wine Polec and Youn g out...he drops form 22 to 27 in one swoop

Yes seemed totally logical to give a Ah Chee a full game this week in the A's . Not denying Amon a chance but what are they going to do - make him sub ? Then what ? Drop him because he needs a full game .
AhChee has shown something in every game as a sub , at least enough to suggest he's ready for a full game to try out .
Oh well the selectors obviously know better than me . ( I hope )

The decision to remove AhChee is definitely obscure.
But in some ways the decision to put him in, in the first place, was equally obscure.
His performance on that basis has been spectacular, and a huge bonus for the club.
The only reasons I can think of for these seemingly strange selection decisions:
  • the club has been spooked by its vulnerability to injury, and that they are determined to put some games into their preferred SANFL stock as finals insurance. That would make real sense if we were flying.
  • maybe insurance to keep young talent at the club.
That still does not negate the sensibility of replacing "like for like", as well as achieving the above objectives.
From my point of view: Alipate OUT, Clurey IN, White SUB, AhChee ONFIELD would have satisfied all of the above, particularly as we are definitely not flying at the moment.

Cant agree with all this negative comments in regards to Ah Chee getting dropped.
Port are playing their best 21 players each week. The sub is a separate beast - it has been used to give game time into the 22-26 picked players.
Amon will definitely be sub tomorrow - his form doesn't warrant best 21 but will be very handy in the latter part of the year if we get injuries.

But Ah Chee is best 21 this weekend. Very easily could've left O'Shea in the SANFL, and given Arch a full game in the AFL.

It's hard to be to critical of selection when you don't know what happens behind closed doors during the week. From an outside perspective, the decision to drop Arch is bewildering, it just doesn't make sense. It's a bloody great way to destroy a players confidence and trust. He was one of our best against the Eagles when he came on, with his aggresiveness in the contest which we were poor in all night. Not sure what else he could do, really feel sorry for the lad.

I agree that Ah Chee is not in our best team, but then why have we played him at all?

and Young had a bad game, subbing him was enough to send a message, he didn't need to be dropped too.

We're now down 2 more big bodies.

Our team selections this year have been as bad as the Primus days.

Young had an average game the week before as well, hence he was dropped. In fairness, though, some of our bigger name players are equally as deserving of the treatment he has received based on this year's form.

Westhoff the biggest disappointment currently this season, just looks lost out there & playing as a floating mid isn't helping our struggling midfield structure.

The Dogs dropped Macrae after a few poor games, I'm kinda surprised we never seem to drop the underperforming big name players when form warrants a spell in the SANFL even just once to set an example.

White, in my mind, has been the other big disappointment, having only shown glimpses of last year's damaging form. If Amon comes in tomorrow and plays well, his place in the side going forward will surely be under scrutiny.

Yep White looks to be running half paced, likely still carrying a groin niggle & should've been rested to get it right with Amon/Ah Chee to play instead.

Another one I think is a little lucky is TJ who hasn't looked anything like the player that was voted into the leadership group. If O'Shea performs well i'd like to think we wouldn't drop him instead based on Bobby coming straight in, we can't afford to carry favourites.

I really don't see what all the fuss is about regarding ah chee. He's played his first few games as sub and has had about 2 notable and effective handballs. 1 to set up young for the sealer, the other 30m one everyone's been ranting about. He came on and only played well because every other one of our players were tired which is what any sub would do. I posted this in another thread but our 22 is now locked; from out prelim team last year the only change is neade, moore and o'shea out. krak Mitchell and ryder in. Everyone else is simply depth with Mitchell and o'shea spot is still debatable and up for grabs as is kane's after next week. People make it seem that dropping ah chee is the equivalent of dropping a schulz or a trengove. He's not that good..............yet

Finally we're not missing big bodied midfielders for this week. If anybody had a look at who we're actually playing you would realise Brisbane only have that one midfielder around the 190cm 90kg which defines the big bodied type. They're main inside ball winners are rockliff 183, redden 189 and beams 186. We have a more than capable midfield; ebo boak gray. But the main thing is which nobody realises is that hartlett and wingard are both capable of running through as an inside midfielder and winning their own ball we just haven't seen it yet because they haven't been needed in those roles when wines and polly play. We'll be fine without ah chee

Moreso the reason we added so many short players to this weeks extended squad is their mossy fleet. Colquhoun and neade are both under 180 clearly ken is trying to switch things up because for the last 6 weeks our structures have been dismal.

We've actually got to be careful this game and anything but a decent win will be somewhat irksome. For some reason, the loss to WCE didn't bother me too much. Bit conspiracy theory-ish, but I think that it might be a similar situation to that 'down period' during last season where the players were pumped fairly hard and it showed in our performances.
I may be overtly optimistic here, but I expect us to come out firing this game. The loss of Walsh means nothing. Looking forward to seeing how treats the lull tomorrow.
I don't think Brisbane will be able to chuck on the amount of pressure needed to win. We'll see!

Ah Chee dropped is bullshit. It's not like O'Shea and Amon are in blistering SANFL form to push him out either.

Who are our inside mids? No Wines, Young, Moore or Ah Chee. Boak is gonna have sore shoulders on Monday from all the carrying of the midfield he'll have to do. Arrogant selections IMO.

Bump.

We dropped two inside midfielders to bring in our 5th and 6th half back flankers. We got what we deserved.

Selections have never been Kern's strong suit but I knew Brisbane's mids would bend us over after seeing them on Friday.

Rich, Beams, Rockliff, Zorko, Redden, Aish & Robinson vs Boak, Gray, Ebert, Kornes & a few part timers, we've got 2 rucks & Hoff all in the midfield at times, none are offering all that much at the moment & slow us down.
