Must win before the bye.

Outs- Jack Payne , Levi Ashcroft(managed/omitted), Charlie Cameron(managed).

Ins- Tom Doedee, Will McLachlan, James Tunstill.

Could we leave Hippy back and bring in Gallop? I thought Hippy went pretty well today when swung back.

Darragh Joyce probably comes in if Doedee is not right on his game tomorrow in the VFL.

Froggy to Jeremy Cameron again? He seems to do a good job on him most of the time.

Harris to Shannon Neale.

Attitude, tackling pressure and goal kicking efficiency in. Complacency and lack off pressure out.
Gardiner for Payne.
Levi needs a break.
See how the vfl goes regarding who else is putting pressure on.
Geelong fwds and backs will have a field day if we turn today’s form on again, as will there mids.

Looking at the ladder if we lose this game and the Crows win v Tigers and Hawks win v Kangaroos which is highly likely we will fall down to 5th.

With the last bye round to come the following week and attaining 0 points we could be in a dog fight to stay in the 8, first few games back after our bye are >

Port(H)
Blues(A)
Dogs(H)

Going back a few years, but Darcy was once seen as a cornerstone of our defensive set up until injuries struck. He looked good there against the Saints, so hopefully he can go okay with an extended run.

Doedee would be a nice addition if he can get his body right in coming weeks. His intercept marking would help address that component of Payne’s game. Hopefully he’s not far off being included - fingers crossed for a strong game tomorrow.

I’d also play McLachlan for Charlie - but I fear that’s zero chance of happening. However, he’d no doubt be frustrated given he is performing in the twos with no reward as yet.

Lohmann being down on form, fitness and confidence is also hurting us - he too is providing little both offensively and defensively. Given he was starting sub today, if Fagan was to omit a regular he might be the one that gets sent back to find it a bit more.

Lohman is just getting it all wrong at the moment. He and Charlie are both confidence players so we don't need 2 of them down there right now. Take your pick

its been bitterly cold in the southwest last few days. rug up if youre going to this one.

After the last 2 down there I won’t ever be going again. Maybe in 20 years when Cotton On has collapsed and pork barrel stadium has fallen down I’ll consider it.

Lohman and Cameron just focus on front and centre work then life will be a lot better. Darcy Gardiner is as a rock solid a defender as you will find in the competition. Should be playing AFL. I think we all want to see Shagga get an extended run.

This is not what I would do, but it is what I would expect from Fagan. He’s not going to drop anyone. What we are seeing from Fagan at the minute is the great weakness in his coaching, his tendency to drift along, dropping games and underperforming in the hope things turn around. Our last six weeks of football have been Draw, Loss, Win, Win, Loss, Loss and there has been some lacklustre performances among that lot and we have coughed up games in remarkably similar fashion. All this without any real response at the selection table.

Last year Fagan was vindicated when we ‘clicked’ in the back half of the season, but if it doesn’t happen this year and at some stage, if underperforming players are not made accountable, we may just drift right out of contention. Fagan needs to show some mongrel. At the moment we have too many down hill skiers getting a game without question.

First step would be to drop Cameron or Lohmann for Will McLachlan and tell them they are not getting a senior game until they can kick goals and improve their defensive game. Bruce Reville is another player I would have in the seniors for Levi Ashcroft, who appears allergic to tackling, at this stage.“Tackle Allergic Run One Way Syndrome” appears to be contagious at the minute and Fagan needs to find a remedy, quick smart.

I don’t disagree with the above at all, and the point about Levi is a good one. He’s a talent, but sometimes a wake up call (being dropped) helps to ensure development continues. There’s plenty of examples from years gone by.

The defensive side of his game clearly has got scope for improvement and it’s time we have him put a more pronounced focus on it - something he likely hasn’t had to do much of given his junior dominance and immediate promotion into the seniors. With the longer term perspective in mind, we aren’t doing him or us any favours by allowing him to coast when he doesn’t have ball in hand.

Send him back for a week or two, set him some defensive metrics, and help him to develop into a well rounded player that understands you’ve got to work both ways.

Does Fort hold his spot? I thought he did okay but to be honest I didn't really notice the GWS ruck either. Maybe a break even. I think Kai will be dropped.

Out: Payne, Kai, Charlie, maybe Fort
In: Gardiner, McLachlan, Bruce, maybe Big O

Will add some nice size and grunt inside 50 with those inclusions which I think we are lacking at the moment. Forwards are at the moment scared of contesting.

I’ve been liking Fort. Logic tells me to stick with the match fit ruckman, rather than including one coming back from injury, but when has logic had anything to do with footy?

I love all your other changes.

The problem is that at the minute we have as much “grit” as a bottle of baby oil.

I think most would agree Charlie should be dropped but I just don’t see Fagan doing it. But he did mention in the post game he thought both Charlie and Kai were poor so there is that.

Agreed, Hippy has sacrificed his game this year to help out in the ruck and now go down back. Was it last year against the Suns he went down back and did well. then again he has had to go there without preparation and did ok. Harris was bloody hopeless against the key forwards of the Giants, he is just playing frustrated and his timing is off. Hippy held his own without help. It's Hippy or Joyce whom was serviceable last time with a block of games.

Lohmann and Cameron don't deserve selection
It's a good call. They were woeful against the Giants, Lohman especially. Sitting at the game up in the stands had a good look at running patterns and especially Lohman just seemed to run away from the ball. There were a couple of turnovers we got and all we needed was Lohman and Charlie to take off into the open paddock but Lohman just trotted trying to look over his shoulder which sent him off at an angle. At Least Charlie got down into defence but offered nothing as a forward. The problem with Charlie is about "moments" he just doesn't sense them. He had that important shot at goal, the crowd would have belted out Country Roads and the team would lift but like in so many games now he just doesn't sense the importance of the moment.

Fagan is notoriously loyal but McLaughlin has been belting on the door with bags of 5 goals, he needs a run in a few full games he is showing he is currently a better option than waiting on the other 2 to find form.

Kai looks like someone who is doing his utmost to avoid contact if he can. He’s obviously been hampered by the ankle, but I reckon mentally the shoulder is getting to him as well. A shell of the player we saw last year, which we couldn’t really afford with Joe moving on and Charlie well past his peak.

Harris to Shannon Neale.
Harris usually plays on Olli so he can zone off. I like the Hipwood experiment, he was marking the ball and winning freekicks until Cadman worked out he cant do body on body defending. Its worth Hipwood learning that craft.

Also with Hipwood out of forward line suddenly Day came alive and Morris was moving with a lot more space. If we are desperate for third tall I'd play Dizzy there and swap him with Hipwood if things get out of hand. I belive hipwood as CHB is something worth pursuing.

Dizzy can tag Stewart and still do a decent job.
