Changes v Crows

We lost the first ever Showdown at Adelaide Oval 2 years ago today!?!? The last 2 years of my life have been a lie

Oh yeah, that was round 2. I've had it in my head it was round 1. Ok, we lost Round 3.

FWIW same for the Camry's , 2 loses then may be another on the trot , season looking dismal and hope vanishing , sure can happen to them and I hope it does , mind ya Gomer Pyke will last another year.

We need to inflict pain on Eddie. Anytime he goes near it, have Tommy Jonas run through him. Get reported, I dont care, just make him hurt.
This is the approach Clarkson takes with Betts and it's the right one. He doesn't react well to genuine aggressive contact. Getting reported isn't necessary but I agree with your logic.

My post was slightly tongue in cheek but I'd like to see whoever is on Eddie play on the edge and show a bit of mongrel. I think taking Eddie out of the game (fairly but aggressively) pretty much swings it in our favour.

Take a breath with Lobbe. Give him a chance this week. Jacobs would monster Howard if given the chance. Lobbe just needs to give a contest and keep his work rate up, he has a good engine and then work with Trengrove and work over Jacobs. But also our mids have to be better as well. Start working of the opposition ruckmen.

The problem is that Hickey is on the lower end of rucks who Lobbe will come up against this year and he still beat him. If he'd put up that performance against a Goldstein, Sandilands, Jacobs type then no worries, but if the best thing you can say about his performance against a Tom Hickey level ruckman is 'well he was beaten but he wasn't thrashed', how badly is he going to get beaten when he comes up against an elite ruckman?
I personally think we're underrating how good Hickey will be this year if he stays fit. He's shown signs he'll develop well in the last couple of years and has only just now hit the age that most ruckman start to really find their feet.

FWIW I really don't think Lobbe was that bad either. If our mids did their job and we looked good from the first qtr, I don't think we would have this over exaggeration of how bad Lobbe was.

His form has improved ever game this year back him in FFS!
I am backing in for the year. But he does start slow and has a big wind up for the year and gets better with more games. He struggles against Jacobs, so thats why I'd like us to have the plan we used against Sandi in 2014 in our back pocket, ready to use if we need to use it.

With Jacobs being so good as a ruck and Lobbe being more average, it stands to reason that Jacobs getting injured or suspended would have more impact on their midfield than Lobbe going down for us, as our midfield are not being spoon fed. So I guess that's one upside. Not that I would want either injured.

Re Lobbe - I've watched the third quarter in particular very closely and up until we click and the midfield pressure goes up in the third in wouldn't have mattered if Brendan Brogmus with a plane load of Dank Special was playing.

Watch in particular after Chad's poach goal, 13:20 on the clock, and although we lose the next clearance there are suddenly Port bodies flying everywhere, including some great pressure from Chad and Polly, and we get the pill straight back. This is what Kern wants. Keep watching, with the game in the balance for the next five minutes or so you don't see that desperation. This is when St. Kilda put on the string of stoppage goals.

It's at 6:38 on the clock at a ball in that Robbie gets down and dirty leading to the Ebo goal square goal. It takes time, but from here Boaky, Ebo x2, Broadie, Ollie bustles in front for a goal, we start to win stoppages through the effort of our mids.

Magically Lobbes looks great at the centre bounce at 4:24 as we confirm the change around with possibly our first clean centre break since the opening minute with Robbie, Ollie, Neadey and Sam all sharp. From here momentum in the game never goes back to St. Kilda and the Port bodies don't stop hitting hard. Just watch the next 90 seconds after the Dixon point to see what it's all about. Great footy, and Matthew Lobbe's in the ruck the whole time.

Whatever we've got in the ruck, and it is what it is, the evidence from Sunday is that it's the work rate of the mids that counts.
Very good analysis - when you see Port players throwing themselves at contests we get on a roll. We wouldn't have won without RGRAY

The Toump has got to come in!

Tough call between both my buddies in Young and Toumpas, but he is a far better like for like for White.

I'd be picking Toump to replace White, we're stacked for inside mids as it is we could definitely benefit having some more run & another clean disposer of the ball.

Toumpas isn't a plodder his running game is early Salopek-esque as in not extremely dynamic but has enough pace to outrun the likes of VB, Mackay, Douglas etc.

After adding Boak back in there (assuming he's over his cork/soreness) we'll have plenty of inside mid options to the point Arch will want to perform much better than he did on the weekend.

Yet umm he's been their a week???

Mackay is actually super quick. Douglas is no slouch either.

Yep I was at the parade , and it changes nothing , if Butch has to snot someone , he will/would , if Achee or Westy have to they won't , cant put it plainer.
I heard Mitchell is a black belt, get him in!

I agree with you but I don't think we just don't have another viable option.

The Saints third man up strategy also gave us trouble
I thought they were going to cut out this third man up rubbish since Geelong always do it but if it's allowed, why don't we?

Toumpas looks like he's running slower than he is. It's a strange phenomenon - but then you see him running next to another player and he's comfortably going past him and you go "huh?"

This is how I always felt when I saw Andrew McLeod with the ball #thenextone
