His second efforts have been disappointing. He might be lacking a bit of confidence to put his body over the ball, being generally quite a bit less developed than his opponents.

As you say, that sort of thing can be taught in the NEAFL.

I think he is being out manoeuvred by bigger bodied opponents well before the ball gets near him.

When the ball hits the ground and he takes off after it a side bump by his opponent defuses his momentum and obstructs his path to the ball.

Howell me down if need be. But what about Merrett up forward?

we could start to look at Paine, Andrews, McStay etc and what they look like down there, we are going to

get flogged either way, so why not start to let them gel.

Merrett is a liability down there, his ball use is diabolical and he is just too 'low IQ' to have that much ball coming near him all the time, his leadership down there is overrated too - we are a mess down there.

I'd personally like to see if we could get another season and a half out of him up forward, he might find a new lease on life up there and provide a big body to go with Freeman and Schache, put fear through a few opposition defenders.

Walker really impressed in the ruck againt's the suns, how do people think he would go down back?

He just isn't up to it as a forward and I can't see him coming good.
don't mind the idea if we have a decent run with injuries down back, rog could be the chop out for schache and freeman for a year or two instead of jenkins, save that money and throw it at hurley down back to replace rog would be the ideal scenario IMO.

CBeams, Bewick and Cutler in
Paparone another week in reserves in the forward line please!
CBeams to the wing, not tagging a HF.
Schache rested, Evans & ? Omitted.
I'm not sure who the ? Is yet. Definitely not Westy, who played well.
Maybe the ? Is Payne or NRobbo if injury too great. If not, it's probably Keayes who needs to be rested?
Mind you Bastinac had a 52.4% disposal efficiency, 4 clangers and only 3 clearances. 11 contested possessions but if you're going to butcher it when you get it, and you are a senior player, you should have a week off.
Rockliff shouldn't play IMHO but if so Bastinac.

Why would we bring back Claye Beams? He has been hopeless all year. Far too slow at the moment, I'd be happy to leave him in the 2s for a while as he hasn't proven himself to be a best 22 player IMO.

Paine. Merrett. Christensen.
Hanley. McStay. Cutler.

Bewick. Zorko. Rich.
West. Rockcliff. Mathieson.

Bell. Schache. Keays
Lester. Freeman. Robinson.

Martin, Mayes, Paparone, NRobbo.

Out Harwood, Taylor, Bastinac
In. Cutler, Paparone, Rockcliff

Some positional changes and some ineffectual players dropped.

If Schache is quiet again... Then I'd rest him.

With Gardiner absent from the injury list is he a chance to return this week? Seems unlikely considering the extent of the injury. Cutler appears to be a certainty:thumbsu:

My ideal changes would probably be

In Rockliff Cutler Bewick
Out Evans Mayes Taylor

Doubtful that Rocky will get up for this clash though so I'd probably keep Mayes in the side in his absence. Green, Paparone and Walker can all do with at least 1 more reserves game. CBeams should return via the reserves as well.

Thought he's been pretty good defensively at locking down his opponent. Needs to get more of the ball himself though. His greatest asset is his disposal and he hasn't been utilising that at all

I don't think we have anyone that is a good match up for Puopolo and Gunston, who have destroyed a few teams this year in a matter of minutes. Our last two games have shown that we can't stop a team when they have the momentum so hopefully those silly turnovers happen close to the end of a quarter so we don't get demolished over a whole quarter.

We've had a lesson in effort and finishing skills over the last two weeks so it should be fresh in all the players minds how hard they need to work. Hoping to see Schache and Freeman kick a few and the handball's around the stoppages go to the players advantage instead of at their feet or to the opposition.

Harzy to Poppy. Preferably Gardiner to Gunston if fit. Paine may get the job.

Sorry for the intrusion but wouldn't Jansen come in as he was the travelling emergency? There were big wraps for him down in Victoria and specifically Geelong
