Changes v Hawks

Yeh i thought he played alright and they were both superb goals (and think he will be a very good player), but i just can't see it working week in week out whilst LLoyd, Lucas and even Laycock/Hille in the team, It's too top heavy. We need to clear the forward line for Lloyd and Lucas and have Davey patroling around the forward line. They need space to lead, and i havn't seen that happening alot this season.

Todays problem had nothing to do with top heavy forward lines. The midfield needs a bit of addressing. Could be time for Jobe to have a bit of a spell , needs a bit of a confidence boost. Get JJ back into the side for Jobe. Winderlich for Bolton. Hille for Bradley and Welsh for Heff.
I think 4 changes may be enough.
At some stage i would like to see Ryder in the ruck with one of Hille or Laycock and give Gumbleton a few games as the third tall back.
MJ is struggling a bit as well. Tries hard but doesnt seem to have the pace of the game at the moment.

Well they've got 9 days, so i think they should be fine, not too sure on Hille actually, i thought it was a "bruised chest" but now its a hammy, so he'd be in doubt. With Hille out, it's a huge loss, because we havn't really got a good 3d ruckman (besides Ryder, but i it's better when he's in the backline), so Laycock has to carry the ruck duties by himself and it look's to me he cant handle it all by himself. Hope Hille comes back very soon, because without him, our ruck department doesn't look in very good shape.

Hille was running this morning.

It wasn't the major problem, but i think by having a 3rd tall in the forward line, the 2nd ruck has to go to the bench, leaving you with only 3 midfielders on the bench, where as if the 3rd tall was out, you can rest the 2nd ruckman in the forward line kicking goals whilst having 4 mids or even 3mids + a utility on the bench, that way you have an extra pair of fresh legs to run out the game. Yeh, our midfield does need addressing, but i do think we did have a top heavy forward line aswell, at some stages today there was eg. Kep, Johns, Lloyd and Lucas all playing forward at the one time. Thats just what i think anyways.

Very good news :D , what is his injury exactly?, theres been so many specualtions on what it is, im a bit confused.

in: hille, nlm, welsh, winders, jj
out: kepler, bolton, dyson, heff/slats, laycock/johns

we don't want to be top heavy again against a running side like the hawks

laycock shouldnt go we need two ruckman on the field (hille needs some help there) and we want ryder in defence. Perhaps johns should go im not really sure his been okay seeings he has had limited gametime in most games. heff and slats would be very unlucky to be omitted. both have been doing enough to stay in the side i think. Dyson has been very dissapointing, i was tipping him for a big improver this season, more so then winderlick, guess i was wrong. kepler should be gone and i wouldnt be unhappy if he was never to return. bolton was okay despite what people think but not in our best 22.
so heres my ins and outs

ins: hille, nlm, welsh, winders, jj
out: kepler, bolton, dyson, slats (very unlucky but i think heffernan has more to offer at this stage), johns (good but forward line is too top heavy).

also someone else that should up for selection is campo. most people dont like him but with our game plan focusing on accurate short kicks i think he will excel. 6 inclusions however is way too much, even five i think is too much. perhaps NLM will get a run in the vfl for a week before returning in which case slats will probably keep his spot

obviously i think we all want bolton and kepler out for sure!
i agree watson needs to learn how to kick so 1 week in vfl could help but he was our best player last year (or lucas) wasnt he?
slattery isn't such a bad player, his able to do his job and if we didnt have him in our backline we'll just waste mcveigh by having him in the back

our midfield was shocking, so crap it wasnt funny, so hopefully we'll be able to inject some experienced and good midfielders against the hawks.

in: hille, winders,jj, (i would like to see another debutant such as houli, hislop,or gumbleton)
out: bolt,kepler,dyson

oh and jetta might be back, but i think he should get at least 1 game in the vfl before coming back, his not as consistent as alywn yet.

What I would like to see happen:
In: Hille, Welsh, NLM, Winderlich
Out: Bolton, Bradley, Slattery, MJ.

What I think will happen:
In: Hille, Welsh, JJ, Winderlich
Out: Bolton, Bradley, Dyson, Johns.

I would Hate to see Johns or Dyson get dropped. I think Johns has shown that he can hold his own even with Lloyd and Lucas in the team. I know Dyson didn't have a great game, but not many players did. Players should not get dropped for form this week bacause no one was really in form.

After seeing JJ play for Bendigo on the weekend, I'm not convincd he has fully recovered from injury. If he plays well this week then bring him in for sure, but he should not be a walk up start. If he has another poor week in the VFL, I don't see any point swapping him for someone who had a Poor week in the AFL. Same goes with Campo. Watson's kicking isnt going to magically improve in the VFL. It might look better compared with the other stuff that is dished out in the VFL, but it will still be sub-par in the AFL. He should only be dropped if he is losing us games because of his disposals. He isnt doing that. In fact the positives from his handballing outweigh any negatives from his kicking IMO. He is too important for us in clearences to drop.

And why the need to rush in youngsters. They have plenty of time to develop in the VFL. Apart from Hird, no one else from our starting midfield looks set to leave at the end of the year. Winders, Jobe and Stanton are still the future. Winders is the oldest of them at 22. They still have 4-6 years before they hit the peak, at which time the others (Lonergan, Houli, Hislop, Reimers, Dempsey) can start to come through and get more opportunity at senior level. I think everyone is over excited at the guys we have drafted this year. Yeah they will be good, in 3-5 years time. Until then, let them develop at their own pace at VFL. there is no need to rush them.

Bolton,Dyson,KB,Jobe,Slattery.... OUT

Welsh,Hille,Winderlich,NLM,Jetta.....IN

IN: JJ, Winders, NLM, Welsh, Hille

OUT: Bolton, Bradley, Dyson, Slattery, Laycock

Bolton & Bradley HORRIBLE... Won't play again! Dyson is still struggling a little. Laycock is not all that great. With Johns in we have enough tall targets up forward... and his ruckwork is average at best. Ryder can handle the slack. Big fan of Slatts and am not just gettin on him because of his average game today... Just need to make room for the In's  .

Line-Up Like This?...

B Ryder Michael McVeigh
HB Lovett-Murry Fletcher Welsh
C J. Johnson McPhee M. Johnson
HF Hird Lucas Monfries
FF Lovett Lloyd Davey
Foll Hille Watson Stanton
Bench Heffernan Johns Pevrill Winderlich
EMG Laycock Slattery Houli

how can anyone possibly want Laycock out? Makes no sense at all. We all saw that having no backup ruckman caused all sorts of dramas as a flow on effect, robbing Ryder of the backline which we needed as Fletcher wasnt right in the aerial contests, and thus having Bradley down there to do his best comedy act he could.

We saw how we struggled last season with Hille as the only ruck option, and he has hardly been flying this season. Hille and Laycock must play as the two rucks. Bolton and Bradley out, we dont need those extra apparent "talls".

If fit, Hille, Welsh, Winda are automatic inclusions. NLM will probably have a run in the twos, he has hardly played this season at all. Depending on VFL form this week, NLM, JJ, Lonergan, Hislop & Houli are all pushing and perhaps one may be included.

Right now, Id give JJ, Hislop or Lonergan a run, we need bite around the packs something shocking.

Outs? Bradley, Bolton, Dyson for sure, and perhaps Johns, Im not sure.

He's well behind guys like JJ, NLM and Campo at the moment.

Lets not play kids just for the sake of it.

I agree and disagree, I dont think we should be filling our lineup with youth just to give them a run however we are in contention to make the finals this year and if we have a few blooded youths it will help to add depth instead of slinging them in raw at round 20

If Lovett-Murray plays for Bendigo this week and plays well, he should and will come into the side for Hawthorn.

If he doesnt play this weekend for Bendigo then he must NOT come straight back as he would not have played a game for 4 weeks.
