It will be a win for the ages if we get up this week.
Ridiculous post.

Reminds me of a lot of the trash that was posted on the cricket board after Phillip Hughes died.

Absolute trash and you know it

But a win for the ages?

and IMO it'll still affect Adelaides players more than ours. They would have been with him only yesterday.

Tell that to the Collingwood players who were shattered when John McCarthy died when at Port Adelaide. Will be a win for the ages if we win tomorrow night. As it was when Collingwood rolled us the week McCarthy died.

Matt has been consistent - but what role does he play and who goes out for him?

He is a winger/halfback

He is competing therefore with gaff/masten/butler/hurn/Ellis/wellers and shep

Who does he go in ahead of?

Yeah you're not wrong. The last few weeks we've seen Yeo pushed out of the midfield and more onto the flanks; ideally i'd have Selwood come out of the team, Yeo spend more time in the middle and Rosa come in. Admittedly it might leave us with one too many of his type, along with those players you mentioned, but i'd like to see how Selwood out, Rosa in plays out, as i'm of the opinion that Selwood has not been good at all.

The McCarthy incident was a lot different. The players who were most shattered were those that had started their career out with McCarthy and who had formed a close bond due to where they were in their career and being of similar age.

I liken it to when I lost a close friend of mine and then a school teacher who had also been a stand in cricket coach a couple of years after I left school. I was clearly upset at the news of my teacher passing but it was nowhere near the same how I felt when I lost a close friend.

Yeah agree with the last bit. Majority of our players would have had very little to do with Walshy since he left, almost 2 years ago, that's a long time. I'm sure they will be shocked, and pretty sad at the news but it would still effect the Crows players and staff the most, as they had such close contact with him for the last 6 months. They may be a little flat on Saturday night, or they may use it as a tribute to him, either way, I can't see it having a massive impact on the game.

Not too sure about that. A close mate of mine died in a reserves match - bump activated a tumour in the head and he was gone by Tuesday. That next Saturday I played in the senior team as did a couple of his close mates. We all wanted to play and thought it would be an inspiration for us but it was the opposite. All of us tried hard but had real difficulty doing things at our normal level. I would say that we don't need much of a drop in output to be down as a team so from personal experience so Simpson and his support team had better be really strong in their message and support.

Yeah nah. If the Crows beat us the following week it'd be a 'win for the ages'. If we beat the Dees it'll be a good result in pretty trying circumstances.

Dad told a similar story to me today. Someone who used to be close to his club had died a few days prior, and before the game they all agreed that they would win for him. They ended up losing focus and were beaten badly by the team who were second last on the ladder. Up until that point in time, dad's team were undefeated.

I understand all of the above, but it's not like the players would have had day to day interaction with him over the last 2 years, that is a long time. I'm not saying they won't be sad about it, but I just can't see it having a major impact on our players.

Would you be able to go to work, if someone you worked with for a few years, but had left 2 years ago, and you hadn't really seen them since, died?? I'd say you would, yeah you might be a little sad, and feel for the family, but I don't think it would greatly effect your output.

Yes there is some time since he coached at WCE but I would expect him to be very personal and directive in his discussions. I think especially of the Shuey, Gaff and some of the interstate recruits who were fresh and new at the club. I expect Phil would have been quite a father figure for them which is a heap different to some another work mate.

Can only relate what 3 team mates and I went through. A few year back but hard to know how each person will cope.

Your feeling for a team mate are infinitely different than your feelings for an assistant coach.

Looks like it is going to be awesome weather. If the boys can get focused on the job at hand and do what we have done to Melbourne for the last couple of years we should get a nice percentage buffer.
As for Rosa going out for Butler, not sure why. They have both performed well this year.
Unless he has some niggle or slight injury I guess nobody's spot is assured.
Good way to keep everyone on their toes I guess.

I don't think anyone here can speak authoritatively about what the coach's bond is like with his players at the elite level, whether they still keep in touch and how they will respond in such tragic circumstances.
