You aren’t going to hit if you don’t try draft one at all. I agree they aren’t easy to identify.
Fort, Abbott, Stanley, Smith, Buzza, Sav- we have ample supply of rucks, but only Stanley and Smith would be regarded as real talent in that position. Sav could be anything. I still don't see that area as the main concern. For me it is unaccountable mids, and no fit run with/ negating ball winning taggers.

Nah he's right, just a few of your friendly comments on North's version of this thread;

You're just a whinging flog. I've also been shown a number of times where you go onto our oppositions boards begging them to win against us. It's just weird behavior man and we don't want people like you stinking up our threads.

But wait!!

Snake in the Grass wants to have a sensible discussion!? 😆

We really should be winning the centre clearances - North are a poor clearance side, particularly in the centre.

In terms of differential stats, North are ranked 17th in the league for centre clearances and 15th for stoppage clearances. We're not much better at the stoppage clearances (one spot above the Roos in 14th place), but we are much better in centre clearances - ranked 7th.
Have to admit to not watching North that closely. That's encouraging but Smith's work isn't filling me with confidence

Of course you do.

After all he's done nothing this year - and by nothing I of course mean averaged

- Just under 10 contested a game (9.57)
- Just under 6 tackles a game (5.79)
- 3 clearances a game

As a 20/21 year old in an injury interrupted season. Still, it stands to reason that you would hold him in no esteem.
How wrong and aggro you are. I hold him in esteem, but his recent form has been down. If you can't admit that without jumping at shadows, bad luck to you. My agreement with GOB was wrt him being effective this week coming back from injury. He may well be fresh and vital, but his last few performances were not inspiring- was it back related? We shall see. The other comments about him are not what I would have said.
Parfitt was in my best 22 at the start of this year, but right now, I would think the MC is hoping he is over his injury and regains that spark. When he did a hammy a year or 2 ago, I thought we really missed him. We are not aware of how significant his back has been this year, but it is certainly evident he has been down in many areas, despite your nice stats.

Yes he can run 100 metres and is a good jumper. Plenty of great 100 metres runners have never been all that mobile on a football field. Rhys stanley won a grand final sprint. Not exactly capable of being a great zippy forward pocket roving a scrum now is he. Clearly we need a different word to describe speed on a football field as far too many of you are confusing it with speed in a footrace run over 100 plus metres in a straight line.

Ummm agility??????

Parfitt is a pretty limited player

unfortunately we prefer to get these kind of plug and play types who are short and cant kick 40m

You don't know football.

1. Great contested player

2. Makes time stand still in traffic.

3. Elite ball use by foot under pressure.

4. Turns 50 50 situations into big wins for Geelong.

5. Length of kicking is far from the determining factor when looking at someone's ability to dispose of the ball.

6. Good two way runner and excellent attacker.

7. Along with Gary Jnr arguably the best decision maker with ball in hand at the club;

If you want to try and re-write posts after you've made them to try and cover yourself then that is your prerogative.

But your subjective justification provided after the fact underwhelms significantly. Nor does merely insisting that he has been down make it so.

Stokes couldn't kick the ball over a jam jar and he was awesome with ball in hand in for F50.

Meanwhile Menegola has a long kick. That also comes down with snow on it.

His recent form hasn't been down.
He last played against the Saints, with 18 disposals and 6 tackles, and similar figures in the game against the Crows. He missed the Round 16 game against the Dogs.
We won both his most recent games, and he played well in both.

Every kick this weekend is gonna end up with snow on it apparently 😯

He also had very low time on ground for both of those matches, so I wonder if he was somewhat restricted by injury despite being able to play.

I think you've really hit the nail on the head here Winty. I don't remember us carving teams up because of a contested mark on the wing that we turned into a rebound goal (Though this did happen) We carved teams up because even when the laser point passes failed we put so much pressure on the contest and ran forward in waves. The ball would move forward, someone (Atkins, Meirs, Rat, Dahl, Rohan, etc...) would make sure that in the very least it would come to ground even if the defender was much taller, then we'd get forward to help our team mate and burn away from the defense into (relatively) easier shots on goal which we would then convert.

Just my take on it.

Yep totally agree with this. I would love a "numbers at the contest stat" because I feel we would be way down on it in the second half of the year. Also can someone tell my why we have gone away from having the young players in the middle. We were lorded for it earlier in the year and were winning the battle as well. Why has our centre square make-up seemingly reverted to a combination closer to the 2018 one.

News for you and Scott there's not one half decent 1st ruck among that lot.

Regressed in decision making this year going from what I'm seeing,he's better when taking first option.

rumour is that one certain player at the pies is getting paid minimum chips
as he is getting assistance with some $$$$ race 1 number 2 issues
As someone who knows nothing about horse racing... what does that mean? In a hypothetical sense, just in case you're worried about lawsuits etc.

Whatever you like to believe. I don't need to cover anything, but your post was reactive as if to a serial offender. We all have a conscience, and mine is clear as far as assessment of Parfitt . If you have ANY evidence that I am a serial Parfitt degrader, please reveal. But we know you can't, so continue to be underwhelmed.

Maybe so.
For some reason, my overall impression pf him this year has been that he has been less something, and a big physical clash this week will be a real test. The way we know he can play could come up trumps for us, but I would have preferred a fit and ready SS just this week. If Parfitt is "back", great, we are better when he is on.

if he is so great why does he mostly play forward instead of midfield and why has he only kicked 3 goals from 14 games as a forward

he is easily best 22 and has some tricks but having players who can only kick 40m isn't great, it makes him a limited player

hopefully he can keep improving and become a good link up player like Stokes

I think they are both very concerning. I'm less concerned about our need for a straight up tagger if our mids are prepared to work both ways.
