Also lord knows why you would raise the name of a player that supports Tribeys argument.

Because like the majority of posters who are all 'MaRsHaLl ShOuLdNt Be PiCkeD uNlEsS hE aVeRaGeS a MiLlIoN gOaLs In ThE sAnFl', this bloke isn't too bright?

Marshall isn’t a key forward. He’s the guy that delivers the ball to the key forward.

Let him feed Dixon and Ladhams.

Never said anything about goals. Talking about form. Just like all the people bitching to drop motlop when he has been one of our decent players over the last few weeks.

In: Marshall Out: Ebert
In: Lienert (Could be Broadbent or Garner) Out: Burton
In: Houston Out: Wines
In: Duursma Out: Sutcliffe
This is pretty spot on. I can't see Ken making more than 4 changes. We can groan about a few other names but 4 is plenty.

Marshall is a tall hff not kpf so replacing Ebo is like for like. I'm not against Woodcock either, he would love the G.

Any of the Burton replacement options would be good.

If Houston doesn't come up then Drew/Atley come in.

Duursma shouldn't need to be an in, he should have never been an out.

Motlop is 28 and has played 169 games. He has developed. Marshall is 20 and has played 16 games. Frampton has played 3.

90% of key forwards struggle early on their career before they're able to gain experience and learn the game and develop at AFL level. Hogan, Cameron and Buddy are probably the only KPF's going around who played good footy from day 1, the rest all had to gain experience first. There is no other way to get them that experience other than to play them. Ours are no different. Every coach in the league except Ken Hinkley understands this. That's why our club hasn't developed a key forward since Tredrea. That's why Butcher was looking so promising in his first couple of years under Primus but flamed out under Hinkley.

Butcher, Shaw, Harvey all gone since Ken showed up. Marshall, Frampton struggling. Of those, Harvey was the only one who was clearly not up to the standard ability-wise. The others just weren't persisted with through poor performances in their development phase the same way that Hipwood, McKay, Daniher, Hawkins, Lynch, Dixon (at the Gold Coast, where he was lucky enough to develop at a club not coached by Hinkley), Roughead, Riewoldt, JPK, and basically any other quality key forward drafted as a teenager who you care to name were persisted with by their clubs.

Bring him in why? To develop him? So he can underperform for a couple of games then everyone on here will go right back to bitching he should be dropped? Until he performs consistently at sanfl he will always only have "potential". Especially in a season where we are fighting for a finals berth.

You've completely misread this board if you think that 'everyone will go right back to bitching that he should be dropped' if he comes in and has a couple of poor games.

Take Eric Hipwood. He played half a season in the NEAFL for Brisbane. In that time he scored multiple goals on just three occasions. They promoted him to the AFL anyway. In his first season at AFL level he had four consecutive goalless games. They persisted with him at AFL level anyway. In his third game in year two he had two disposals, one tackle, zero marks and 0.0. They didn't drop him. He had four disposals the next week. They still didn't drop him. He had four disposals again in Round 6. That's three games out of four with four or less disposals. They didn't drop him. The week after that he had 7 disposals and went scoreless again. They. Didn't. Drop. Him.

Fast forward to 2019 and Hipwood is miles ahead of Marshall in his development. Hipwood was only drafted one season before Marshall, but he's played 51 more games. Hipwood would not be at the point he is now if Ken Hinkley was his coach, because Ken Hinkley would've dropped him after every damn one of those games and he wouldn't have been able to get the consistent game time he needed to develop as a result.

It's a lot easier to do that when the side is down the bottom and has nothing else to think about but development though. Regardless of what most of us think will happen for the remainder of the season, we're still in the mix for finals and need to play our best side to win games. Marshall's performances dictate that he's not in our best 22.

I think we should make four changes for the Richmond game including injuries.

In:
Housten, Duursma, Broadbent, Frampton

Out:
Burton (inj) Ebert (inj) Sutcliffe (omi) Westhoff (omi)

SPP gets to keep his spot IMO, He'll be on the bench as an extra midfield.

Is Frampton suspended from the AFL and SANFL?

Frampton can't play at any level for 2 weeks.

It was only two years ago. Two years ago Brisbane were a straggler and we were mediocre midtable. Two days ago Brisbane gave us an absolute belting on our home deck on their way to 3rd on the ladder and we're still mediocre midtable. This all happened because Brisbane have an excellent coach with some long-term vision who prioritised the development of his team, as opposed to Ken Hinkley prioritising trying to finish 8th every year.

Damit, we need someone to replace Westhoff, I suppose Marshall would be the better option if that's the case.
It's a big SANFL game this week too so we don't want to make too many sacrifices.

I'm not sure Duursma gets back in. If Hinkley is to be believed, he was not rested, but dropped for poor form. It's a strange message to send that someone would be dropped for poor form, not play SANFL, then straight back in. But who knows, I don't understand a lot of our selections.

They're just covering their backsides re the Sutcliffe selection.

There is no world in which Duursma was dropped before Butters. He was clearly rested, and the club doesn't want to cop heat about it post match given we lost.

We should always play to make and seriously contend in finals. Success breeds success and we don’t want to get into a situation where we are like Carlton who have come to accept ‘development’.

If we are realistic, we are a solid chance to win the next six, we are also a solid chance to lose the lot. We will need 3 minimum and probably 4 to make finals.

When Marshall has played we have tended to win. For our finals hope, we need him in the side. Yes he isn’t as consistent as we would like, yes he hasn’t killed it or even been steady at SANFL level, but he has helped us win games of AFL. Get him in. Back him. Give him a good run. I can tell you if we don’t make finals it won’t be due to the failings of a young KPF. It will be our midfield, leaders and coaches letting us down. It’ll be the missed goals against North, WC, Tigers, Crows, Gold Coast, Carlton and the Lions, it’ll be the first quarters against Collingwood, bulldogs, Hawthorn and the Lions and it’ll be the failure to win the games we should.

These are the four changes I think will happen. I would like more but too many throws off balance. Westhoff, Motlop, etc on notice.

Marshall for Ebert. Howard and Dixon to stay up front, Marshall third tall/link man.
Garner for Burton, we need a small shutdown defender.
Houston for Wines
Duursma for Sutcliffe

I think Westhoff should be dropped one way or another. He was superb in the showdown but struggled last week. If he can't mark the ball enough or dispose efficiently as a 250+ game player should, I think he deserves to be dropped. Either that or Westhoff is just terrible in wet conditions, so maybe we should consider the weather for Saturday?

If I look at the weekend our worst players were the entire midfield and defence which went missing in the first term. We can't drop them all or risk being uncompetitive, so who was bad for the rest of the game.....

Well Ebert was our worst by far so he goes, however now we know about his injury that is slightly understandable. We've also lost Burton and Wines due to Injury, possibly taking the focus off the underperformance of Butters and Howard.
Lastly Sutcliffe was only ever a role player, and we wont do that again, so he's definitely gone.

Given that Billy ruled himself out as well, I see something like.

IN: Houston, Duursma, Atley/Drew, Woodcock/Marshall/Broady
OUT: Burton, Sutcliffe, Wines, Ebert

Broady could come in for Burton and Houston takes the midfield spot of Wines, or he could come in for Ebert, still pushing Houston on ball, but leaving more space for us to play more mids.

Duursma is a definite in, and if a mid is to come in
it must be between Atley and Drew. Atley has been in ripping form and offers more breakaway speed than Drew, so could jump the queue.

Depending on what happens with Dougal's position, there's a chance there is a forward spot open which could go anywhere, Marshall, Frampton would've been a chance, or even Woodcock.

It felt like nearly the whole team was dropping simple marks while Brisbane played like it was clean conditions.

I don't have the best memory but I can't recall a single game that Marshall played much of a role in helping us win. However I'm all for bringing in another tall - I was very keen to have Frampton in this week and I feel we need Howard to go back to help against Lynch and Riewoldt. That set up isn't going to happen now and I certainly wouldn't want Marshall to come in as a KPF, definitely only as a third mobile tall...so, whatever happens I'm pretty sure I'm not going to like the team structure this week, which is par for the course.

Can't believe the club won't challenge Frampton's suspension! Has there been any word on this?

But Brisbane bottomed out for quite a few years and accumulated talent. We have not done that. Instead we finished ninth, don’t play finals, don’t get as good draft picks. We also seem to have wasted s few high draft picks to get players who stopped us from going to the bottom, but didn’t help us make finals.
