Better hair too.

Jackson Nelson is creeping towards 100 games and people are still thoroughly split on him, but far out I just don’t understand the concern. He’s a rugged, prick of a back pocket, and his skills are right up there. Not sure how he got the reputation of being a butcher, and when everyone cries out for more tough bastards with a bit of campaigner in them but then proceed to bag Nelson...I dunno. Set and forget B22 at the moment.
Spot on with Nelson. Since his under 18 days, he has had well above average kicking skills. That is why in 2019 the club starting taking the WAFL kick ins and why he has advanced to being the alternative option at the AFL level.

He has decent speed, has built his tank to a good level and generally makes good decisions. Plus he has a little more mongrel that anyone else in the backline.

I sense he got the reputation for poor kicking in his early couple of years when he ran out of puff and shanked a couple. But there again so did Sheed until he developed a better endurance base. And Duggan was often caught holding the ball (until he picked up the pace of the game).

So we can hold on to aspects of their play from early games and stay biased or watch what they have done in development.

Our best 7 backline when all fully fit right now are:
FB: Hurn Barrass Sheppard
HB: Rotham Gov Nelson
with Cole and Witherden fighting it out for the 7th

Hurn is another two weeks away.

Ryan another four.

Simpson post-match said they both might be a “test” in this week’s injury list, along with Barrass, Gov and Hutchings.

I had hoped that Cameron would be starting to build momentum but this week was a backward step. It would not help with a lack of talls up front.

Based on form, there is no way you could credibly consider Jarrod for a game.

Like others have said on here earlier, we're hosting the Crows at home - give the kids another game and the wounded another week's rest.

I agree, but they’re not two and four weeks away

Nelson is taking less attacking options compared to Witherden taking the riskier kicks.

Ergo the better kicking efficiency for Nelson.

And i thought Jacko played good on Sunday, but let's not compare apples with Oranges or suddenly we'll start thinking Barrass and Vardy are up there with the best kicks in the game.

Nelsons a campaigner. Witherden is an attacking defender who is shit at actual defending.

I feel Witherden also feels he HAS to take the attacking option every time he gets it, which is probably a bit much at times.

All depends on who is right to come back from injury, whether JK’s calf recovers and the unveiling of this weeks mystery injury

I’m only confident of Barrass returning this week and I think he comes in for JK who should be put in cotton wool for the week. That frees up Allen to return to his natural habitat up forward

If JK is OK, then it’s a coin toss between Langdon (least effective forward) or Waterman (one tall too many) to come out.

Highly doubt we bring in 4 blokes off 'Test'. Too big a risk, particularly with some repeat injuries we've had.

TB for JK is obvious. Don't care about the romance of Ledwards in to face the Crows. We're carrying a lot of injuries and have finally strung together back to back wins in 2021.

Pick our best side of guaranteed contributors, get to work burying the Crows and winning back some %. We're hunting top 4, not trying to fluff up some Instagram content as a bottom 4 side so we don't lose memberships. Let Edwards keep toiling away in the WAFL with an eye to taking him over to Adelaide in July. We'll have the cavalry to support him and it will make a bigger statement anyway, if we're up and about by then.

Depends on fitness I would think. If JK is not right to go, I suspect the only change will be Barrass for JK and swing Oscar forward again.

If Liam Ryan is suddenly good to go then I can't imagine he would need a week in WAFL and I'd bring him in for Langdon (who is improving) or Waterman.

Are they dumb football decisions, or selfish football decisions?

It just seems like he's trying to do too much and/or do it all himself. (Langdon shows this trait a little also).

He's probably feeling the pressure of average form (not poor form, just average) and trying to do some amazing things to get into better form. The problem being he is burning team-mates and getting caught with the ball or missing shots etc. Just do the simple things well, bring team-mates into the game and it is funny how quickly things turn.

Cripps has been a bit of an enigma, small forward who's always been terrible below his knees. That would rule most out, but his work ethic is unquestionable. This year he's been fumbly both above and below his knees. Also has no peripheral vision, even without others alerting him he should have known he was going to be tackled. Despite this he's way ahead of Langdon who is fringe AFL at best.

Others calling for Cameron in are dreaming, had 3 possessions in the WAFL.

Agree on your best 7 backline EXCEPT I think once Shuey and Yeo are back that Duggan goes back to the backline as Brander seems to cemented himself in the midfield.
So I think Cole gets dropped unfortunately and then it's still Witherden and Nelson fighting it out for 7th and that's a tough one.

Ruck - NicNat Williams
Mids - Shuey Yeo Kelly Gaff Sheed Brander

Next season if Hurn retires then it opens a position downback.
And if JK retires I think Brander could take what we thought was going to be Waterman's spot.
I dont think Waterman will be able to fit in the forwardline as our small forward stocks are pretty healthy when all available - Ryan, Rioli, Petch, Jones, Cripps, Cameron.

Anyway, great to see our team start to develop some depth. These are good problems to have.

Yep, he's making some obvious ****-ups at the moment but Cripps is still top-10 in the AFL for pressure acts which suggests the effort is still elite.

Who takes Texas chainsaw? Gov got pantsed by Hawkins before he got injured. Walker covers a bit of territory too.

McGovern should never have been on Hawkins, his role is an interceptor not as a lockdown defender. Against Geelong it should have been Barrass on Hawkins and Rotham on Cameron. When McGovern got injured bizarrely Simpson decided to put Sheppard on Cameron rather than the more logical Rotham.

For some reason a few times each year Simpson decides to start McGovern out of the square on the opposition's most dangerous forward, remember that against Sydney a year or so back and Buddy had 3 goals by quarter time. That should always be Barrass's job and McGovern given licence to do his own thing on a lesser player.

You did not include Sheed in your team!

Won't bother with my changes until the SJOG report comes out and we can find out if McGovern is fit.

You mean until 2 days after the report comes out & another long term mystery injury comes out.

Hopefully TB is good to go, and he can come back for a JK rest/amputation.
I'd probably swing TB forward & keep Oscar in defence - let's finally get TB a goal hey :drunk:
