Yep. This board is continually asserting that we have to drop underperformers and bring up those who are in good form in the SANFL. That's until Neade performs well for a number of weeks. Then, it is pre-melts and screams of 'NOT HIM!!!!111!!!11!'.

A number of weeks makes it sound like Neade has been in good form for 5 or 6 weeks. Really it is 2 decent weeks.

Harsh. I think he is coming along nicely. His main area for improvement is getting that penetrating kick, rather than that dinky short kick he, and a lot of players, seem to use.

I feel like we're watching a different game, and I cannot in any way shape or form, see anything resembling what you are describing. I watch him play, and I see a very slow footballer, who takes a long time to make decisions, who is usually out of position, who misses handball targets by greater distances than the handball itself. His least-worst attribute is his kicking, which is usually a 40m long and 40m high slow loopy kick which is never marked. Worst player I've seen play in our colours.

Noticed St Kilda dropped Jack Steele this week. That's good because he is not in my crap SuperCoach team. Why do other teams have the ability to set standards and actually drop players. Why do Ports win by 130 points. Need to fire up. Drop someone. Drop jasper so I have an excuse to trade him out. Carn ports.

Geez Neade cops some massively unfair criticism on our board.

Which particular criticism do you feel is unfair?

-His lack of goal scoring ?

- his horrible kicking to targets inside 50?

- his decision making?

- his inability to be a marking target or even compete in the air?

- His low possesion winning ability?


The criticisms of Neade are not even remotely remotely unfair. They are justified. What's unfair is the mythical label he gets as a good defensive player when time after time his direct opponent has far more impact on the game than he does , in the air , on the ground , in link up play running off him etc. this mythical account of Neade as some sort of defensive pressure guru in the forward half is hogswash if you ask me. His 3 tackles a game while ok hardly have an impact , his chases while having the rare impact never turn games much less make up for the onslaught his opponent has given us with his barrage of easy possessions running off jake Neade to help another player in a contest.

No player has ever lined up on jake Neade and put any thought what so ever into how they will stop him. No team has ever looked at the team sheet and thought how are we going to help his defender cover Neade. Neades opponent every game ever in the afl has planned how he is going to help cover our other forwards , and how he will hurt us going the other way and that player has probably been more successful than not in achieving that.

1. While Neade isn't a senior player he is 23 with 50 afl games under his belt

2. His form at SANFL level has been horrible for a player of his experience. While he has had some ok games at SANFL level on paper

a) they have been sporadic with no consistency

B) they have been bit parts when our team is up and flying. No dominant performances , no performances against the flow.

C) even at his very best in the sanfl he still has the same deficiencies as the afl. His kicking and decision making still poor, still not kicking goals etc


It's gotten to the stage where first year players and players off the rookie list have well and truly gone past him.

You can probably add to this comprehensive list that in 50 games he has shown absolutely no noticable sign of improvement.

He is so far from the level required in my view. He is slow, his disposal is ordinary, he is not super fit and breaking lines. Just my opinion.
