Out: Blease
In: Tapscott

I love Tapscott hard edge and thought he played well against Dons & Pies. Give Bail a week in the VFL. If Clark is out then I'd bring in Strauss and keep Riv/Garlo both forward.

Not even going to entertain the morons who think Bate should be out!! All i will say is that we play our best footy with him and Dunn in..

Only change Martin for Clark...

In- Luke Tapscott, Troy Davis

Out - Joel MacDonald, Mitch Clark (inj) :(

Troy Davis has earnt a debut after great form at Casey that stretched back to his debut last year. Despite his age, he is ready made much like Tom McDonald.

Expect to see Howe, Bate and hopefully Watts spend a lot of time up forward now that Mitch is gone.

James Sellar to pinch hit in the ruck, Stefan Martin has not earned a recall and quite frankly I dont rate him.

Frawely on Brown, Sellar on Merrett.

B - T.Davis J.Frawley J.Sellar

HB - L.Tapscott T.McDonald J.Watts

C - C.Sylvia J.Grimes J.Howe

HF - M.Bate C.Garland J.Trengove

F - A.Davey J.Rivers L.Dunn

R - M.Jamar N.Jones B.Moloney

I/C - J.McKenzie J.Magner D.Nicholson S.Blease (sub)

I would bring in tapscott and Martin for Joel MacDonald and Clark. Would really love to see gysberts play but I reckon he will probably need at least one more at Casey, just has not played enough footy this year yet.

Given the result for Brisbane, they'll probably only swap Maguire (given his injury?). Think unless they go for someone untried it'll mean Merrett to the backline as normal - which I think would be a win for us. Especially if we bring in the likes of Stef Martin (i.e. going a bit taller). His game still needs a bit of work but he was solid for Casey on Saturday.

So I'd go with Martin for Clark there.

Davey saved himself with that second half - thought his first half was putrid. No-one else was brilliant enough for Casey to displace someone from the seniors.

Just thinking about where everyone lines up - seriously it's like Neeld has taken Bailey's team circa 2010 and flipped it completely. Rivers, Garland, Martin and Davey in up forward, Watts down back, Bate, Dunn and Silvia pushed further into the midfield. Bizarre really.

Dunno about Tappy coming straight back; didn't think he was really that great before his suspension and the rest of side (and a few at Casey) have been playing well.
Moloney has been plodding for a while so probably needs a bit of a wake-up. JMac didn't do anything bad on the weekend, but I didn't think he was that involved in the game. I thought he was in the side mainly because we were playing kids and the bigger bodies would be more useful. Brisbane are a more mature side, so just having big bodies won't be enough to win the contests, need some players with skillz too.

I dont know if merrett will go back to be honest.. if clark was there sure but they have the defenders to go to Rivers and Garland... Strauss wont play this week. Gysberts would certainly be fit enough but they may opt to give him another week. Bail and Tapscott should be close to selection. Dont think Martin's VFL performance warrants a selection even if clark is out.. we managed in the second half with sellar pinch hitting so why not stick with it, Lions have only played Hudson recently havent they?

Agree with TBD, with Clark out i would say Merrett won't move back. With Huddo being our #1 ruckman, Merrett has also been the back up ruck whilst playing up forward, something very hard to do from FB. McKeever and Patfull will be our 2 main defenders. Will be interesting to see if Melb change their structure with Clark missing, they have enjoyed having him as a focal point in attack, do they try replace him with another target, or change the forward structure up a bit ?

With only Huddo as our only 'real' ruckman, Melb could get away with only playing Jamar in the ruck as well, won't need 2 specialist rucks against us, unless you guys have someone to bring in that can replace Clark as the tall target, and spend a few minutes in the ruck to give Jamar a break.

Can people stop including Davis? Right now unless he plays forward he does not fit into the team, our back half will be far too top heavy.

In: Martin, Gysberts (If they deem him fit enough to run out a game, otherwise Tapscott)
Out: Clark (inj) MacDonald (omit)

Martin to replace Clark up forward and Gysberts in the middle for some clearance work, we are going to need as many clearance guys as possible and Gys can get the pill.

I think its with a view of Garland and Rivers playing forward the whole game, maybe even Watts too. Brisbane are hardly dangerous with the smalls, and a third man like Davis could be useful. Very courageous boy.

Can we also get over the notion that Garland and Rivers are definite forward options? Yes they did well on the weekend but Garland just looks lost in the forward line most of the game, Rivers is playing some sensational football down back this year and I don't think he should be away from the back half for too long.

Keep Garland there if you have to but just insert Martin and leave Rivers down back.

I was thinking about this game today and it looks really interesting from a selection/match up perspective. You used Brown up the ground last week which meant Lake couldn't rebound or defend deep, leaving Merrett to compete one on one against a journeyman defender. Top move I thought, although the dogs left it like that all day. If that happens again we might go with Tom McDonald on Brown and Frawley deep on Merrett. Jordie Mckenzie nearly always beats whoever he plays on, tagging Rockliff seems logical but he will destroy him if he gets forward, maybe Rich instead?? Magner to try and shut down Drummond. Will be interesting how it pans out.

He was solid and got alot of the ball, not to mention stuffed up a heap as well. But to say we play our best football with Bate in th team is ****ing laugh!

I generally don't like to rate things on stats alone (with my own 2 eyes I thought Bate was VERY good and played perhaps his best game with us for quite some time) but he got second highest possessions, 3rd Highest disposal efficiency (only Sellar and DUNN were higher) and the highest SC rating

Re watch the game, he was very, very good and definitely does not deserve to be dropped after Sunday's performance

I never said he should be dropped, I just disagreed with the call 'we play better with Bate'

Bate gets possessions but does nothing damaging with them. Provides no spark, no firepower, no class, no speed... you can see he works really hard but he just doesn't have anything outstanding to offer.

Why do people want Blease out?

His pace adds a whole lot, and allows the pressure to ease off Nicho

I thought Bate was pretty ordinary in that first quarter. Fumbled a lot, spilt marks and not overly quick.

As the game went on he found space a bit and started getting the footy and growing in confidence. All in all not a bad effort given his time out of the Dees side and that he played a different role earlier in the year.

Going forward I'm still worried about his movement and skills under pressure but they're no doubt going to give him a decent trot of games for one last look at him you'd think.

Agree, with Clark out its really all about making sure we have the right structures for 2013. We're less likely to win games, but we still need to have the correct attitude of trying to get the 4 points under Neeld!
