I agree he has upside but right now he seems to be making too many mistakes with his very little opportunities with the ball in the hand.

If he gets another go this week he needs to make it count. Will just put the last 3 weeks down to nerves.

agree

Hopefully he can do the simple things like get his tackle count higher. His marking stats are good meaning he is finding space and his contested possessions and 1% are fine. Fingers crossed he is just finding confidence, adjusting to the speed of the game and adjusting to the game style.

I feel another round of selections set to make my head explode coming on. Then when we beat Carlton a bunch of people not wanting any changes and then more crying the following week when the same people left in who shouldn't be there go to shit against Sydney ala what just happened against Geelong.

I'm fine with Mitchell in as long as Sam Gray is out, Mitchell will do a much better job than Gray in the pressure forward role. But if I ever have to watch those two in the same side again I will be booing harder than Adam Goodes at a Klan rally.

whilst I don't think Mitchell has a long term AFL career in front of him, you have to admire the guy for his persistence.

Mitchell had 19 touches in the first half and 11 in the second so he didn't fall out of the game. I didn't hear of him a lot in the third quarter but I was not at the game but listening to it. I would like to see him in as the sub with Sam Gray back to the SANFL. One of Moore or Ah Chee to replace Stewart. And there is the question of whether Ken will want to bring Trengove back now or after the bye. Ryder seems a definite to not come back till after the bye; if Trengove is to come back then Clurey would be the unlucky one.

If trengove comes in we have to drop one of clurey or jonas for balance. Why would we try to play clurey as a big bodied mid when Moore has been dropping 25+ possies every time he dons the black and white for two years now playing that role?

For me it's

Trengove - clurey/jonas

White - Moore/ ah chee

Are the obvious moves.

If Mitchell has to come in then it's for Sam gray.

Ideally I would do this

Trengove - clurey/jonas

White - ah chee

Stewert - Moore

Sam Gray - krakouer

Gives our midfield every chance to get well on top. Lots of spread there. Moore can play stewerts role up forward when not in the centre. Kraks footkills over grays hustle. We are really being hurt by our forward entry , Kraks is just about one of our sharpest kicks , tell him to play around the half forward and hope he can get on to the end of some possessions going into f50. He can pierce some low fast kicks onto our forwards , rather than watching the loopy kicks to our forwards or kicks long to a pocket.

Did I read somewhere that Ken said in a press conference yesterday that O’Shea and Pittard may have to play further up on the wings to replace White and Polec because of their speed?

Hammer Hartlett is suggesting that Jasper may need to play in an alternative role to help cover the loss of speed via White and Polec, this forum called it - can't remember who it was? in any case, this will impact team structure and will effect the 'ins' for this week. As much as I don't really want it to happen, suspect O'Shea will come into the side as one of the changes.

I don't mind Oshea. Is a player that plays better in the afl then he does in the sanfl , as he is an aerial player and most of th sanfl is played on the ground around packs. Oshea also had a tonne of the ball last week on the wing.

The thing with Oshea is he is elite at his strengths (intercept marking , run and carry through lines) but is abysmal at his weaknesses. As a defender he pretty much has to defend in the air , is hopeless when defending in all other situations.

But if we are solely looking to bring in a guy for outside run , to get outside of the packs and into space and run the lines he isn't a bad option. We could easily lose jonas , put Oshea running the wings / hbf , and if at some stage we need a shutdown medium defnder to go back just shift stewert back there.

The key to the game is Monfries blanketing kade simpson. As much shit as he cops from our board because he doesn't get a lot of stats on the stat sheet he's done the job against murphy and Mackie in the last 2 weeks and im backing him to do it again. They won't be able to generate run from the back half and it will go a long way to us keeping it inside our 50.

My question is, who does bobby go to? They're tall forwards are really tall and will probably throw one of wood or kreuzer to stretch us and test lobbe so trengove will go to one of them if he comes in and lobbe to the other. Henderson will be too athletic for bobby so hombsch will go there. leaving.....................? He usually goes to waite when we play them but he is not with them anymore.

Everything but as Janus pointed out in the review thread, its the stuff ups from fringe players that mean the best players have to work harder.
Yeah nah, that's a very long bow.

Boak - 7 clangers (38% of his disposals)
Gray - 7 clangers (26% of his disposals)
Wines - 6 clangers (25% of his disposals)

Colquhoun - 4 clangers (20% of his disposals)

Whats next, the fringe players are stuffing up which causes the best players to work harder and then they stuff up too? How do we know its not the better players stuffing up causing the fringe players to stuff up?

Specious reasoning at best.

Come on. We know the outs will be Westhoff, Stewart and Clurey with the ins Mitchell, Neade and whoever is just taller than Neade.

I'm going to lose the plot when Moore and AhChee don't get named.
I'm resigned to Sam Gray staying, Clurey out and maybe Young for Mitchell as God knows even a HFF / midfielder is obviously still too inside heavy.

I wish I was joking on what I expect.

And resigned to the extent that's what I expect, I'll still go apeshit at our lack of inside grunt after the team is named.

If Monfries goes to Simpson with the intent of playing a stoping role that to me is a win for Carlton. We are saying Gus can't kick goals on this guy so we are going to stop him setting up play. Might sound old fashion but to me forwards kick goals and defenders have to stop them kicking goals. We are turning a simple game into B.S and getting our pants pulled down at the same time.
