IN: Someone staying inside the forward 50 regardless of what their defender is doing
OUT: An empty forward line when we get a fast break

I'm pretty tired of seeing us finally work it out only to kick to the boundary line in our forward 50 as there is nobody home (time and time again...). Ken you want us to play on our terms then make their defenders accountable and leave a bloody forward in front of goals. bet their defenders won't lead up the ground after the first 3 goals.....

I've changed my mind a few times over the years on who's the better player : Young or Moore. I'd say Moore right now as Young's form has dropped away of late. I thought Young was playing some reasonable footy earlier in the season but not now.

But I wouldn't be surprised if I changed my mind again. Probably a sign that I don't think there's a big talent gap between two players who sit more at the bottom end of our first 22.
Young needs more urgency in his game because if he was to start getting 25 -35 disposals week in week out he could be a top player.
Moore needs continuity. Whilst he has shown that he has all the tools to make it at AFL level, his injuries etc have hampered his development.

Both are on that edge atm and time is not on their side anymore as has been in the past. Moore is 24ish and Young not too far behind him. Chances are younger players or future recruits may go ahead of them unless they take their chances asap.
Having said that the opportunities need to come as I'm not sure either is suited to being a sub.
The better subs have been gut runners with eveready batteries, and that wouldn't be how anyone would describe either of them.

Per The Monday Knee Jerk Reaction: AFL Round Eleven"... The Cats were also helped by the Power kicking it into their own offensive 50 like they’d had a massive falling out with their own forward line ..."

It's beacuse they are all up the ground chasing their player defending. Just keep one back ken, just bloody one. No point finally getting a fast break to kick to a blade of grass... seems simple footy to me. As soon as you can get a break all of a sudden if it was a one on one, it's exciting and you have half a chance.... seems we are not doing simple things at the minute and working really really really hard to go know-where fast. It's gotta be more than just hard work doesn't it?

This is a forward thinking team, and may well be the team we have at the start of next season (Patrick Ryder will be there of course, pending WADA decisions. Ditto Monfries). But not now.
If we make 5 changes, along with the inclusions of other youngsters already there, we will lose this game against Carlton.
We have to hold our nerve with some of these more experienced players who aren't performing and struggle through to the season break, hopefully to regroup and freshen up.
We must finish 6-6 at the break.

Making the 8 is important for team development and supporter morale, and being 6-6 will provide us with the opportunity.

I hold the belief that we have the tools to make it at least to the final 8, supported by the observation that we are playing absolutely junk football and still only losing by 3-4 goals.

Right at this point in time, I couldn't be bothered playing finals footy, we have one of the best lists in the comp, we now have an opportunity to strengthen our list by blooding kids, if we finish 7th without giving the youth a fair shake of the sauce bottle we have TOTALLY cooked this year. Heaven forbid we finish 12th and snare Partington. Regain Polec and a bit of confidence and look healthy for a great crack at 2016 and strengthen our future prospects a little more than we would have expected!

These kids have been playing in a good structre in the Magoos, they shouldn't be too far from the mark. Obviously not the first year kids however.

We are at that crossroad for mine as we having anything but an easy draw coming up and we need to win nearly every game to make top 4.
Somewhere along the line we may cind ourselves in a position where we will benefit more by giving a decent amount AFL development time to a few of our younger players such as Ah Chee and Amon. We are not there yet, but not that far off.

great post, my thoughts exactly..

Moore had 25 possessions, 7 marks, 7 clearances and kicked 2 goals on the weekend and has been in great form over the past month - he deserves his shot.

I do not normally believe in mass changes, but i think at this point we need to make a statement. Not giving up or anything as i still believe we can make finals. Just atm our team balance is way off and needs some serious adjustments to balance and players attitudes.

IN : Neade, Ryder, Harvey, Trengove, Mitchell, Moore, Amon.
OUT : S. Gray, Stewart, Colquhoun, Clurey, Hartlett, Young, White.

Ryder and Trengove come straight in - Clurey and Stewart out.
Neade in - S. Gray out. (need a small crumbing forward)
Amon in - White out. (injured)
Harvey in - Colquhoun out. (team balance, need a stay at home Gorilla forward)
Moore in - Harlett out (Hartlett is not a midfielder, too slow to be a link up player - Seems lost)
Mitchell in - Young out (bring in the Super-Sub with a bit of heart and pace)

F: Neade - Harvey - Wingard
HF: Monfries - Ryder - Schulz
C: Ebert - Boak (C) - Westhoff
HB: Pittard - Trengove - Hombsch
B: Jonas* - Carlile - Impey
R: Lobbe - Wines - R.Gray
INT: Moore - Amon - Broadbent
SUB: Mitchell
EMERG: Colquhoun - Ah Chee - O'Shea

* To be replaced by Krakouer if possible.

Top 4 is gone, making the 8 needs to be the focus.

You could tell right from the start of the pre season competition that something wasn't working correctly and they haven't been able to fix it. That one quarter against the Hawks is the only part of 2014 that we have seen in 2015.

I now see that Shaw is listed as 5-6 weeks meaning Krakouer can go onto the main list again.

My team would be:

Monfries- Schulz- Gray
Wingard- Westhoff- Krakouer
Amon- Wines- Hartlett
Broadbent- Trengove- Jonas
Pittard- Carlile- Hombsch

Lobbe- Ebert- Boak

Moore- AhChee- Impey
Sub- Colquhoun

Emer- Mitchell- Neade-

Fair enough but he won't, as we can play rookies from R12 anyway.

I'd include round 1 as for mine that has been our best 4 quarter game so far. We probably let that one slip as we had chances to win it.

Ryder has been ruled out of Carlton game as per the club's injury report. Mitch Harvey your time is now son!

Yep we couldn't switch in the pre season and it hasn't been fixed now

In AhChee , Moore , Mitchell

whilst i'd love to have Amon back in this week, I think it would totally contradict their previous selection policies with players such as Ah Chee.

Ah Chee has arguably been our most effective sub in 2015 but was sent back to the SANFL for fitness purposes.

Amon has missed a week, I doubt he'll come back in the the AFL.

That story Rooch wrote about Robert Shaw and having to go backwards is crap. Shaun Rehn played 3 games in 1995 and 3 in 1996 - all wins before doing his knee, ACL, in Rd 3 of both seasons. Give Robert Shaw a fit Shaun Rehn for all of 1995 and 1996 and Malcolm Blight only having Shaun Rehn for 3 games in 1997 and 1998 and history would look completely different.
