Seems about 2% of people on the swans board think they have a chance. Anybody feel like this will be our first over their lot in a while? And none of this close game crap either. We'll get em by 50

Sydney will be on the rebound this week is my worry . The numbers and IS50 stats were good for Sydney and if they lift their efficiently WCE may be in trouble .
I'm hoping to win but think Sydney may be too hard and experienced for us .
WCE by 14 pts

So Simmo should've tinkered with a team/plan that was winning games comprehensively to prepare for future matches where he might not have the same team, and the WAFL is not the right place to do this?

Okay.
Yes. McGovern has been playing injured for weeks and Simpson did not have this covered. McGovern could have broken down in the first few minutes last week. That would have been serious for the team. Simpson knew McGovern had fitness problems and did nothing about it except keeping the option of Yeo as a taller player- but that would take Yeo out of the mid field. On training a tall defender, the WAFL is not the same as the AFL. East Perth is not the Eagles. OK Simpson took a risk. It may still work out OK but it was still risky. He even mentioned that Darling could be targeted. All this calls for another tall to be playing. The only question really is who is that tall and who do you leave out. Other people, not just me saw the problem. Simpson gets the big bucks to sort this stuff out.

Apart from McGovern missing we have no excuse not to have a comfortable win.
We should have a sizable advantage all over the ground.
It appears that Reid, Grundy and X Richards will be their key backs.
They'll be matched to Kennedy, Darling and resting ruckman respectively I would've thought.
But if they play that combination they will have lost a fair amount of rebound from defence.
Then, up forward, they'll have Franklin, Goodes and a resting ruckman.
These will probably be matched by Schofield, Sheppard and Barrass respectively.
Those match ups, by and large, favour us. I don't think Barrass is going to be exploited by Pyke or Nankervis is his first game.
In fact, he might actually be able to zone off them quite a bit to chop out the play McGovern-style.
Sheppard should be the perfect match up for an aging Goodes.
Franklin can always break Schofield's clutches but I think that comes down to the "web" not operating effectively.
Another aspect in our favour (and will affect the output of their forward line) is our dominance in the midfield.
Last week we squeezed Collingwood in the midfield when McGovern had gone off and kept them to two goals and a quarter and a half.
This week we will have a distinct advantage if Naitanui can dominate the ruck (like he should).
Because of this we should have many more centre clearances and, like last week, more i50s.
I fully expect to see Shuey rebound from his poor game last week and have a number of emphatic clearances this week.
Of course, even though all of the above sounds good in theory these things often play out quite differently come game day.
I can see us doing all that and then kicking something like 7.25

Well I politely disagree sir. Simmo's decisions have won us 11 out of the past 12 games, no reason to mess with a winning formula. If we were running around mid table then yes, test the contingencies in the AFL. But whilst we're winning so comprehensively and sitting top 4, the WAFL is the best place to run the back up plans. Simmo is getting paid the big bucks coz we're top 2, he's doing his job exceptionally well right now. After round 3 when it was all doom and gloom he refused to jump off our midfield, and look at the dividends that's paid.

Has he, really? He got a bad cork against Essendon I recall and still managed to play the following week against Richmond, but apart from that what injuries has he been carrying and could have led him to 'break down' any minute??

Considering our already depleted backline before the McGovern injury and how it has stood up, I have complete faith in what Simpson has been doing.

Look Simpson is doing well credit where its due. I am interested to see how they are going to cover the GOV, for the next few weeks. Barras and Schofield with a combination of Hurn, Wellingham, Ellis, Sheppeard etc. I don't really want to see Yeo play down back he gives our on ball division X factor, size and firepower.

OK, but the fact is he did break down. This is not a hypothetical "may" and people on this board were worried about no cover for him. A cork that prevents you from playing is an injury? I think you will see that people were worried about his fitness. It seems pretty hard to justify why we have not blooded someone already. Unless.......MCINNES!!!! was the secret plan all along. We will see fairly soon.

Blooding a new player and preparing cover in case of injury are not necessarily the same thing.

surely Simpson should have grown a KPD when McG was injured. Perhaps he could have drafted one over the weekend?

If Eliss is doubtful wonder why Butler wasn't named??? Seems like a perfect swap!
Is Butman still injured?
Yeah, I think if Butler was ready to go he'd be in the 22.

My take on the situation is the McGovern's role can be covered. He plays loose off his direct opponent as necessary and is rarely caught in a one on one contest. Sure, he seems to have almost perfected that role, but it doesn't mean we should have blooded Barrass or McInnes in the back line in the AFL, 'just incase' McGovern goes down. Hurn or Ellis should be able to play this role well enough in his place.

If Barrass plays, it will be interesting to see what role Simmo gives him, considering Sydney have a shorter forward line at the moment (if Reid plays back).

Yeah, I think if Butler was ready to go he'd be in the 22.

So does anyone know what Butler's issue is? I remember when he first got hurt the general feeling was "corky" or "just a bit sore". He's going on 3 weeks out now.

Maybe he died and West Coast are trying a "Weekend at Simmo's" thing?

He's playing WAFL. So probably not injured any more but either sore or has lost fitness.

Butler has been named on a HBF for East Perth, maybe want to make sure he is fit and ready to go.
