In: Presti, Shaw, Medhurst
Out: N.Brown, Blair (Wellingham if injured), Sidebottom

Can't ignore Medders form and Sidebottom has been out of form and looks a little tired. If Sharrod is isn't fit, on current form Blairy over Sidebottom.

Saints will see themselves out of the top 4 this week. Port won earlier in the year and are up and about. Saints are in a lul and trying to adjust to life with Riewoldt again. They lose and Freo and the Dogs jump them. Saints in 5th.

Freo will therefore be in 4th. 1st is necessary.

I feel pretty strongly about these particular changes. Have studied a fair bit of Geelong tapes, as well as Collingwood v Geelong tapes and I would definately go with these changes.

In: Shaw, Medhurst, Presti

Out: Goldsack, Blair, N.Brown

Goldsack I'm not really keen on playing against Geelong, even with his newly found confidence and form. In the past has played on Steve Johnson a few times and each time has been beaten, on Johnson I would much rather have Harry O'Brien playing on him who has previously got under his skin and completely limited his impact. Considering the form Johnson is comming off last week I consider this a key matchup. Geelong have a few smalls to Shaw is the natural replacement. (This isn't to say Goldsack won't get back into the side, but against Geelong he isn't our best option).

Medhurst for the past 2 months has been in outstanding form in the VFL and it is unbelieveable that he has not yet broken back into the side. He is back in good form and needs to be bought back in to test Geelong with a smaller forwardline to compliment Macaffer and Davis. Geelong in the past have had trouble with smaller, faster forwardlines such as Carlton's, so I really see Medhurst as being a key inclusion. Then that just means that Beams/ Sidebottom spend more midfield time which I think they can both manage.

Reid previously against Geelong was fantastic and he seems to have entrenched himself in this side. Presti is the natural replacement and after a week off should be fresh and ready to go.

blair gives us something different to the team that got beaten by geelong last time we met. He shouldn't be dropped and this the perfect opportunity to show geelong how we can beat them with our stronger midfield.

Medhurst has to play, but it's no excuses. If he performs poorly, he's straight back out for mine.
Medhurst won't play this week, with Presti and Shaw returning, and playing the best team in it (or at least our biggest challenger) we can't risk playing a player who has done nothing but played poorly at AFL level this year.

Meds will get a crack before the finals, but it won't be this week.

My initial changes seem "strengthened" by the news on Wellingham, I will stick with, and hope the 2 changes occur.

In: Presti, Shaw
Out: N.Brown, Wellingham

The other "possible" outs are MaCaffer (one below average game) and Blair (please no, this game will suit his style down to the ground), but I hope both are given a chance to perform against the best.

Presti for Brown if fit
Shaw for Wellers (doesn't play well injured)
Medders for Blair or MacCaffer - guessing Blair. MacCaffer played well against Geelong last time barring his set shots, he really did a number on Chapman.

It has to be time for Medders

Presti in for Brown.

Shaw in for ???? I dunno.

No way I'd drop Goldy or Blair. Blair has really been outstanding and really to have a 2nd hard nut along side Bally goes a long way specially against a side like the Cats. The difference though Blair is really a good kick in up spotting targets.

Goldy is in great form. Just a silly idea to entertain the fact he would be dropped.

It's a great problem to have huh?

very intelligent post! could not agree with you more!

Will MM and co. give us an extended interchange on thursday?

Here's my side with extended interchange:

B: Nick Maxwell, Simon Prestigiacomo, Ben Reid
HB: Alan Toovey, Tyson Goldsack, Harry O'Brien
C: Heath Shaw, Dane Swan, Sharrod Wellingham
HF: Alan Didak, Travis Cloke, Dayne Beams
F: Brent Macaffer, Chris Dawes, Leon Davis
FOLL: Darren Jolly, Scott Pendlebury, Dale Thomas
INT(from): Luke Ball, Ben Johnson, Leigh Brown, Steele Sidebottom, Jarryd Blair, Paul Medhurst, Josh Fraser

Medders has played well enough to warrant selection, but in saying that who is omitted? Have been really impressed with Macaffers presence as well as his contested marks, and Blair has been a great contributer in the games he has played, and his hardness would be a pretty good asset especially against Geelong...

atm presti and shaw look to be the likely ins but who really knows with mick :p

I think we have consensus

In Presti Shaw
Out Blair N Brown

However we do have one extra defender, so either Shaw or Goldsack will have to play further up the ground.

Yep, unless Wellers doesn't get up :thumbsu:

Totally with 'Mattys' post. Medhurst will get a chance, may well be in our finals 22, but he wont get a start this week. Prest helps us enormously this time, we have a number of options for their small and mid forwards.
Scarlett is alwasy a huge presence, need to play him as Rocca did a few years back. Drag him away from the action, although he naturally works himslef into the play.

Huge games for our young forwards in Dawes and McCaf, dont expect too many possies from them, but the have huge roles to play

The forgotten man, Josh Fraser, obviously not in line this week. Reckon he will play versus the Crows.

MacCaffer played well against Geelong last time barring his set shots, he really did a number on Chapman.

Did he? I must have been watching a different game. The game I watched was more like Chapman doing a number on MaCaffer - bigtime.

Caffs had a couple of good games since hes been back but last week was ordinary.

A few interesting questions for selection this week

Will we use a tagger onball ie:Johnson/Wellingham/Blair ?

Will we drop 2 defenders to cover Presti & Shaw coming back?

Do we keep Blair in side on back of hardness & tackling ability?

Do we bring Medhurst back in ?

Should we start Neon up the ground to allow to get early touches in a big game?

Do we start Cloke deep & hope he can kick straight?

If we only drop one defender do we spring a suprise such as Maxwell or Toovey forward or onball ?

Changes depend on who is fit, Presti / Shaw/Wellingham

Give Wellingham a week off and rest the knee
Bring in Medds for Wellingham, bring Shaw in for Blair (unlucky)
if Presti comes in N.Brown (again Unlucky)

Harry O against Garry Jr

Thats what I am thinking. The only thing is 3 changes 1 too many. We want a settled side.

IN Shaw Fraser
Out Wellenham(inj)/Blair, Jolly (Rest)

reckon the first change is obviousish as for the second one reckn it would be good to rest Jolly and also means we have an ace up our sleeves if we meet again. Would like to see fraser given a chance to redeem himself in a big game his last chance for mine. As for Presti give him another week off can't hurt.

If Fraser plays this week, instead of Jolly, we might as well give up now and try and beg for mercy.

Fraser is finished, yet Jolly is one of the sole reasons why we are a premiership chance, no way is Jolly missing this match.

MM will definately keep a couple of aces up his sleeve.

Heath will probably miss, and no way Blair is going to be dropped, he hasn't made a mistake.
One of the younger bodies will get a rest, Steel or Beams.
MM may possibly bring in Fraser and Medhurst and tell them that if they want any chance of September then give us reasons to select you in Sepetember, against our biggest threat.
Would be a good indicator, plus we keep Jolly up our sleeve, he's due for a rest any way.

If anyone listens to Mick's press conference he talked about Sidebottom only just getting back to 80% game time. He missed a game or two, can't remember how many and they've slowly got him back to 100% after the injury. He doesn't need resting, nor does Beams.

As for aces up the sleeve, that is so much b/s. This is a professional sport and coaches don't mess with form and don't hold back players for finals. They do it for a rest or structure. Jolly loves hard work and for him to be out of the side this week it is either injury or rest, not to hold an ace up the sleeve!

There are way too many wanna-be coaches on here that want to put their favourite players in or think way too much about it. Mick has a simple philosophy this year and that's not to mess with players form and not to play favourites.

If wellingham misses this week because of injury it will be a shame because his first half last week was back to his early season form and he usually takes a game or two to hit form after missing matches. Let's hope he's in and there's only one change or two (shaw and/or presti).
