Simpson on 6pr just then saying that Masten will be playing this weekend. Just a matter of which team.
I heard that interview as well. It was interesting that he said Jetta and definitely masten would play this weekend, just a matter of whether it was WAFL or throw them in the deep end

Maybe I'm reading too much into it but got the impression Jetta isn't a certain starter this week

Sadly he also said swellingham is still weeks away as they'll need to get some conditioning back into him

I think it will depend on training. If he is 100% good on the track he may as well play the Hawks.

No sense locking in the team now it won't be finalised till Friday.

I think he mentioned a third player. Was it Barrass?

I think playing one of Jetta/Masten makes sense, can't have them both though.

He said Hutchings played well on the weekend and was a possible inclusion

I meant that I got the impression Jetta may still not play this weekend at all. Agree with you that if he's right he might as well play against the Hawks

There is a guy arguing how its unfair that the Bulldogs have a higher % because the Eagles had to work harder in a tighter game or something.

Facebook comments are where hope goes to die.
WOW. its like the old people behind me shouting kick it long and boing when the boys were switching sides. People need to get educated.

Thank god i discovered BF or i would be stuck with those imbeciles. I only use FB to swear at people (as i can't here).

Still think two of Jetta, Hutchings and Masten will play as we need plenty of legs in the midfield and to assist transitioning from the back half with Wellers out. It means a couple of outs that aren't deserved but whoever it is that goes out will still travel as emergencies and will be first in line for a recall. It's a professional sport, nobody's feelings are going to be hurt - they'll just pick who they think can best deliver the win.

You’ve got Lewis waiting. How do you potentially make any changes given a performance like that?
We’ll just see how he trains and how we pull up, but he’s a quality player. If he gets through training then he’ll play.

Is Chris Masten a chance given how quickly he’s recovered?
Yeah, he’s a chance as well. He’s ticking all the boxes.

If he makes the seniors it might be something like
Outs - Ellis, Duggan
Ins - Jetta, Masten

The loss of utility through a loss of height in the above is questionable IMO.

Only if we wish to play one of them back.
In which case we have short players in Puopolo and Rioli to cover.
Unfortunately I don't rate Ellis' chances to shut them down.
I'm not advocating that Duggan is dropped, I just think it might happen as he is likely the first midfielder bumped out of the side.

Haha do you sit in block 106 too?

Man up Eagles!
Kick it long!
Oh why are they always going backwards?

Urghhhhhh. So painful.

We leaked a lot of goals against the Lions so whatever changes we make, the defence through midfield and defensive half has to improve.
So if Jetta comes in, it needs to be for a forward or a midfielder, IMO.
Guys like Breust, Rioli, Puopolo need shutting down.
Who was playing on the opposite wing to Gaff against the Brions? Thats the guy who goes out most likely..

If jetta is available itd have to be butler.

If masten is also available then itd maybe duggan or nelson. Bennell did alright on sunday.

I have a feeling sundays game is going to be a shootout

Hawks are not that stupid especially with so many missing.

My guess is they will try to keep close and tight as possible and try to make it physical as to unsettle us.

A solid start is critical if they don't burst us early our chances go up a lot.

Yep, a shoot out favours us massively.
They just don't have the forward line to compete in an open game atm.

Surely you jest. Hawks are the worst team to go toe to toe with in a shootout.

Full strength Hawks maybe.

But without Hodge, Hill, Roughead and possibly Shiel and a far weaker backline I don't think its a good idea.

Maybe Clarko will spring a surprise but to me you go with the strategy that gives you the most overall chance of success.

The have lost a bit of drive and obviously Roughy is a huge out but otherwise their forward line is unchanged from the last few seasons.

It will be a fired up Hawks and we have to play a lot better than we did on the weekend esp. defensively or they will just carve us up.

Hawthorn is fielding a lot of average players atm.
Langford, O'Rourke, Litherland, Sicily, Pittonet and Schoenmakers are all suspect atm.
And they'll now need to replace Hodge.
See the other thread for my thoughts regarding the forward/back comparison between the teams.
They don't have the manpower in talls to hurt us in the forward line or contain us in the back line.
Unless we are off our game a shoot out should favour us.
