Before I get shot, what has Sylvia done since his second quarter v Richmond. Potential can only take you so far and until he is willing to give his all then he can play at Casey.

Watch the game a little closer next time, he is an important link player through the middle of the ground is the best contested mark in the side, lays a lot of strong tackles and has body strength over the ball. I would say this year has been his most consistent season at the club.

Agreed, took 4 contested marks against WC which is a rareity in footy these days.

Sylvia has defiantly been solid; he’s becoming very important to the structure. Anyone who can kick 60m goals on the run is alright with me.

If Davey wasn’t 100% fit they wouldn’t be playing him. As suggested 70% game time is a reflection on his endurance, not fitness.

I think it will be straight forward in terms of changes Bartram and Dunn out. And if available Green and Rivers will be in, if not (as I suspect) Rivers won’t be available Bennell gets the spot. Green’s injury will really come down to him (assuming they have put screws in it) and if he has the confidence to put his head over the ball

Jamar also has a case and will probably need to come in. Last 2 weeks we were lucky that WCE and Doggies play there second ruckman as a KPF. Stef will need to run with buddy all day unless Riv does come up. So Ricky might need a “rest”.

Both have had their injur worries this year

Bell has been surpassed by Frawley as our med sized backmen and to a lesser extent Cheney and Bennel have passed him also.

Buckley does have genuine pace, his disposal can let him down. Grimes has filled his role as the running half back although he doesnt have his speed he is tougher at the contest more accountable and has way better skills.

Both fringe best-22 players who are getting fitness back at Casey after being injured. By all accounts both might need another week or two in the reserves before/if they come up.

German is pretty adamant Bell was BOG for them (despite Supers view). His stats also look alright. That said he is being trialled as an inside midfielder, so I'd want them to persist with Valenti for a while, and if Belly is still going well and Valenti is struggling then swap them. No doubt Bell's pace and tackling could be a weapon in the midfield, but if it doesn't work I think he might end up as a very good depth backman for another club! I wouldn't be surprised if he did a Farren Ray on us if we were to trade him.

McDonald, McLean, Moloney, Valenti, Jones - do we really need Bell in there too?

I think it depends on the way he plays. I though he might offer a bit more of an outside role considering his pace, however he seemed to get alot more handballs than kicks for Casey. He wouldnt be ahead of those on the list as well as Sylvia going into the midfield, so i dont see how he get a game.

Something to experiment with towards the end of the season perhaps... but you'd want his 'vision' to be a bit better than last year if he's going to be relied upon in an outside mid/forward role like that I think.

I'd contribute to the thread but I'd just be repeating AndyMac. Especially Bennell on Rioli instead of Cheney. I think he might kill Cheney on the burst and turn him inside out, but if he gets the job good luck to him...great post.
