I actually thought Brown was serviceable in the ruck, he was better than Giles the week before anyway.
Given more time back in the side, surely he'd improve some more?

Give him another crack I say.

You cannot be serious surely, please tell me you are joking.

Probably not a popular opinion but I wouldn't mind Giles coming in for Brown, so he and Lycett can give Goldstein a thorough working over
Sounds exciting.

I'm worried about someone like Brown giving away frees in the ruck contest because he cant compete. Frees out of the centre will destroy us.

What about Daw , he is a monster ( as in big ) ....don't think Brown will be up to that situation in the ruck for too long .
Might need to play Giles just 20% time to help Lycett .

Great post. They can work Goldstein over. This is what we got Giles for,to come in and play a role for the team if 1 of our main too rucks are injured.Hes not a star as we know, but he competes well and helps nullify the opposition from getting clean centre breaks as he did against Brisbane.

Brown and McIness should not be rucking when you have a fully fit Giles. Its absolutely ridiculous.

Giles in Brown out.

I think it's horses for courses depending on the opposition and agree Giles may be the better option this week. His lack of mobility worries me against Goldie but I guess that is what Lycett is for and Lycett will ruck 80% of the time and Giles 20% and plonk up forward for the rest.

Lycett and Brown for mine

Will lose the hitouts anyway Brown will help tackling the big bodies of Norths Midfield

Like brown v essendon but against north, giles makes more sense. But he needs to offer more up forward. He needs to get those goals from 30m out, like he has at ep.

Totally disagree.
Giles will get thumped in the hit outs anyway and your not going to get the same follow up or ground level pressure.

Our mids should be looking to shark a lot more this week.

I'd rather Giles with a big body in there to at least nullify goldy to a degree and stop them getting easy centre breaks than goldy hitting it straight down there mids Throats if he was against Brown.

And Brown's not exactly agile after 2 knee reconstructions, totally disagree with you,Giles Is by far the better option.Browns no ruckman and he never will be.

Giles may have a big body but he'll do sweet FA to nullify the Kangas rucks.
After last weekends game, you could see that Brown was still agile for his size and far more agile than Giles.

We'll have to wait and see.

Brown is 1 awkward landing from competing in the ruck from doing his knee again, and that will be the end of his career just about. Its non-sensical to have a backup ruckman who gives you a contest in there, and not have him do ruckwork,in favour of a guy who's a kp player who's to short and has never played as a ruck at afl level

And while I'm at it,Mciness and Mcgovern should not be rucking either, govs to injury prone and important to us to get get injured rucking and Mciness is hopeless at ruckwork because well he's not a ruckman.

They're no Q stick, that's for sure

I agree about McGovern, he is far too valuable to the team to risk in the ruck.

TBH, I just don't see Giles as providing much more of a contest in the ruck than Brown.
He'll still get pants in the hit outs.
At AFL level, he's now pretty much as useful as a bull with ****. (He's had one decent year but not been able to back up)

Brown at least can go around the ground with them offering intense body pressure and hopefully go forward a bit (if he can kick straight)
If Browns only value currently is to play back up ruck, so be it.
Perform or don't get picked.

If Giles does play, I want to see Mumford mongrel from him.

McInnes is worse than all of them. (FWIW I always wanted to see him at CHB)

Rucking is the most dangerous position on the ground. More dangerous than in the backline where a key forward jumps into your back........If Brown is going to do his knee again he could do it anywhere on the field playing any role doing anything from jumping tackling turning marking or feeding a Kangaroo.
