Is this the week to bring in Gallop for Day? Much as I like Dizzy, I don't want to see him up forward again.

Kai in for Shagga if fit.
He was in the ruck in the twos yesterday for a lot of the second half when Fort was rested as the emergency for the seniors.

Could work. He had a good game as well.

Kai in for McLachlan.

Morris in for Day.

Coleman in for McKenna.

Bailey goes forward. Jaspa to the wing. Coleman down back. Kai the sub so he doesn’t get hurt in the first quarter for a fourth consecutive game.

Maybe Gallop for Gardiner as well. He and Hipwood can split the second ruck duties to be easier on the body. So Big O 80% of time in the ruck and then 10% each for Eric and Ty.

Fagan in his presser said that Lohmann and Morris should be available this week, also said Danny Daly reported from the reserves that Tom Doedee was BOG in a high standard VFL game. I wouldn't be against resting/managing a couple of players(eg Kai/Logan) this week but Fagan does not seem to be a fan of that route.

Ins- Kai Lohmann, Logan Morris, Ty Gallop.

Outs- Sam Day(inj), Darcy Gardiner(omit), Will McLachlan(omit).

Sub- Conor McKenna.

Doedee and Coleman will come into the side at some stage over the next few weeks IMO, both looked ready yesterday but particularly Kiddy probably needs another week or 2 in the VFL.

Asking a 18/19 year old to do ruck work in their debut game is just something I wouldn't want to do. I don't want Eric to run through there either.

Bring in Fort for Day imo. If logan is fit, he comes in for Dizzy - if he isn't, I'd give Gallop a debut but he plays forward only.

The good thing about Dizzy is that he can slot into the backline almost seamlessly if someone goes down during the game.

Anyway, there is going to be some difficult team selections moving forward. Add in Beecken and Gallop who have yet to play an AFL game.

I’d personally give Doedee a crack to reward his perseverance. Having not played since 2023, it would be a big mental boost for him to get an AFL game under his belt and build from there.
I get it, but how can you pick him over coleman? Coleman is a genuine a-grader, and if you're finding space in the backline, it has to be for him. Doedee also seems like a lester replacement, and dropping froggy would be harsh too.

They could, as could Charlie and blacky but is it in our best interest to play them in the ruck?
Is it in our best interest to carry a second ruckman? I'm not sure that is either. We should win this game regardless of what route we go down.

Even though I'm not a fan of the two ruck combo, if Day is only out for a week then I would play Fort. I don't think that is a long term winning strategy but I'm not sure if the risk/reward ratio is in our favour having Hippy or Gallop play backup ruck. If Day is going to be out for multiple weeks or months etc. Then there would be no better time to try out something we haven't done before than against the Roos.

Doedee is the same height as Starce, based solely on height, there is an argument that you could move Fletch back up to a win and have Doedee play on a HBF. He used to have the pace to be a HBF.

They'll be playing Coleman in the VFL side for a few weeks first. I guess we can worry about the fitting him in selection headaches then. What a problem to have. Starcevich, Coleman, Doedee.

Squads win premierships, and we've got some serious depth.

A bit of hopeful speculation on the North board that the cold miserable Tassie weather might help the Kangas get the chocolates (ignoring the fact it is unseasonably warm in Melbourne atm lol).

Hmmm, awkward.

20% ruck time is not a lot. What do you lose by bringing in another full time Ruck for that 20%? Our mids should get on top for a good percentage without a known ruck.
Nearing the end of the game I asked the question did Oscar come off in the 2nd half, IIRC he was at every centre bounce/ball up/throw in.

Can you get that sort of info anywhere Grasshopper17 ?

100 % with this . We have a big strong body in Fort who is more than capable. I shuddered with Hipwood taking ruck contests because he's one player we can't afford to lose this year. And it's asking far too much of Gallop at his age ,it's not as if he has much rucking experience.

Assuming these guys are unavailable or not quite ready for AFL this week: Day, Lohmann, Kiddy, Doedee.

Morris in for McLachlan
Fort in for Day

Sub: McKenna
Omitted: McLachlan

Oscar to spend some time forward when Hippy, Morris and Gardiner are given a break

I don't see Gardiner losing his spot while Day is missing.
